By the 2nd or 3rd lack of service remark from the room steward I would have asked if he accepted gratuities and told him they needed to be EARNED!

 

By the 3rd or 4th I would have INSISTED on speaking to the Hotel Director.

First cruise was my honeymoon Dec. 1969 aboard the M/S Boheme of Commadore Cruise Lines. Inside, twin bedded (that could NOT be moved together) cabin.

 

However, we did have our own complete bathroom. Just large enough for 1 person to be in either standing or sitting.

Late DH & I did Alaska on the VERY cheap. Had to as our daughter was getting married 2 months later. Mot have hop on/off busew hitting major sites.

 

Ketchican: bus to SaxmanTotem Park, walk Creek street

Juneau: hop on/off trolley, state museum

Sitka: walk to asst sites

As a microbiologist let me tell you:

 

Any cleaner/disinfectant YOU can buy at the grocery, drug or mass market stores will do SQUAT.

 

To do any kind of decernt job against bacteria or viruses you need to use specialized commercial disinfectants or specailly prepared bleach solutions.

The superior, smug, arrogant attitude of my MDR waiter and the total lack of any contact with the room steward has kept me OFF X for 12 years & I will NOT be going back.

 

WAAAY too many other options & most are actually cheaper than X. I have >10 cruises under my belt: some with now defunct lines and others with Carnival (WalMart?) & NCL. Liked both lines. All MDR dinners (except NCL) were fixed time. Wanting to try Princess & thinking about HAL.

Not me for several reasons:

 

home & work are Chicago & cruises are generally 2.5-4.5 hr flight

I NEED a day to catch up on sleep, do laundry & restock the home fridge

 

Late DH was a commission salesman. He did 50-60% of his business by phone. thus, in every port he ALWAYS found a phone & worked.

Boycotts work. There is an easy way to get the added/increased gratuity rescinded. STOP ordering drinks and do NOT go to the specialty restaurants. After a few months of WAAAY reduced bar bills and/or empty specialties NCL will most likely change things.

I am SOOO glad to see a review of at least 1 leg of the possible B2B. With the no solo surcharge I really almost booked this trip BUT Galveston was a deal killer for me. Looking at possibly doing it out of New Orleans (bucket list city for me) or MIA in 2016. Doing only 1 leg is crazy $$$ for me since air is a killer.

I reached my 'breaking point' with Celebrity on my first & ONLY cruise w/them. it was Arrogant staff; particularly the MDR main waiter but it carried over to the guest services desk & even a bit to the cabin steward.

I have sailed on the Triumph & her sister the Victory. I certainly would sail her agai. I even have a call into my TA about the Feb 2015 B2Bs.

Booked Carnival Triumph B2B Feb 9 (11 day) & Feb 20 (10 day) for $860.43. 21 days @ $41.00 per day. No single supplement.

 

 

I am looking at this very B2B. lot of ports i have never been to or not been to in >10 years. Will Prob call TA thi morning.

I think you need to cancel ALL trips you have planned anywhere in the world whether by train, plane or cruise ship.

 

You also need to stop going to work, to school, the grocery store, church – anywhere people congregate.

 

Then go home, lock ALL doors, crawl into bed and pull the covers over your head.

I think anyone concerned about ebola should cancel ALL travel plans anywhere in the world by any means of travel: plane, train or cruise.

 

They should also stop going to ALL stores, movies, concerts, theaters, anywhere people congregate including work.

 

They need to crawl into bed away from ALL other family members & pull the covers over their heads for the duration of the outbreak.

A loing time family friend was In Skagway off the Celebrity Millie on Wed. I pushed him VERY hard to do this excursion.

 

He is due back in Vancouver today. I have his cell # & will try to phone him tonight or Sat.

I put a spot of makeup UNDER the bathroom waste can and a spent match behind a piece of free standing furniture.

 

In >10 cruises on 5 different lines I have yet to find either cleaned up by the room steward. Did NOT ear an extra tip, just left the DSC in place.

 

Have never checked under the bed. I probably should NOT.

I have sailed on Carnival 3x, NCL 2x and Celebrity 1x plus several other cruises on no longer existant lines.

 

Normally, I don't give a fig about who the CD is. It is MY job to plan my activities and excursions. HOWEVER, there is 1 Carnival CD I do NOT like & avoid sailing with. I find him pompous and arrogant. Then again, DD2 LOVES him as do most other cruisers.

I was in Sitka 10 years ago. It is a great town w/a LOT of Russian heritage. Did the hop on/hop off bus and it worked quite well. Cheapest excursion we did.

GREAT time to travel. Late hubby & I often went between Thanksgiving & Christmas. Cruise, air & hotel rates are lower. Everything is WAAY less crowded.

For me I mix the tea & lemonade together since I HATE tea & the lemonade is too sweet for me.

 

Normally, I would think vodka or gin.
