  1. Still trying to confirm use of the Hub App won't require a purchase of a Wi-Fi plan?

My understanding is we turn on Airplane Mode on the phone (shutting off cellular service), then we log into the ships wi-fi (just like at a stateside hotel). Then we open the Hub App and can send texts to other users of the App.

I understand this is not for web browsing of any kind (websites, checking email, etc). Only for texting others via the Hub App.

    Have I got this correct?

If this is correct, will any other wi-fi enabled app be available for us to use without paying for a wi-fi plan?

I'm thinking about games and especially DUO which we've used to communicate across phone platforms while in airplane mode and logged into hotel wi-fi.

(I wish we could practice with Hub before we sail...but (sigh) we cannot).

I also want to confirm the texting portion of this app will be charged to us at $5 per device for the length of the sailing and not $5/day per device. We have 10 devices and want to confirm we'll be charged $50 and not $350 to stay in contact via text.

Thanks for letting me jump in.

Hub app: You are correct in the set up. Place phone in Airplane mode and turn WiFi on. Connect to ship WiFi, then access hub app. Pay $5 for texting (cost is per cruise, per person) This is attached to your portfolio, so you can use it on any of your devices (only one can be "active" at a time). For example I signed up on my cellphone, and used it on that device and my tablet to communicate with family and friends on the cruise. But only one device worked at a time.

No other apps will work with this plan. So, no duo, FaceTime, etc. Unless you but a WiFi plan that includes those services.

  2. Yes, that is why they are called the "Fun Ships"

I try to book early so I can choose my cabin location, dining times, etc. I use early saver rates and typically end up saving additional money after the booking. I check regularly and call Carnival if I find a better rate.

I also check what amenities the ship offers and ensure it has what we want. This is not a show stopper, but if I have options it may help me choose. I have yet to sail on the same ship, and all have been great. I have not been on a single Carnival ship and thought "I'd rather be at work right now," never happened.

YMMV, but this is my two cents worth of free advice.

  3. Like it was said, no priority debark. I just get up early and get off the ship at first opportunity. Then hustle to the rental shack. I request one of the two cabanas that are away from the building. You have a slightly better view since you don't have the swim up bar thatch roof in front of you. I was able to request and get the one I wanted.

We loved the poolside cabana. You get zip line passes, etc. So use them and enjoy the port pool.

    Have a great cruise.

  4. We loved our cruise last year on the Ecstasy. She is getting a bit old, but the staff seemed more attentive. Our biggest gripe were the rear elevators. They only had one or two working, which made it difficult for those with mobility issues to get to the muster drill and to set time dining. We also loved Charleston.

We don't sail with kids, so we have no info on the kids clubs, etc.

There are no coffee makers or mini fridges in the cabins.

    Have a great cruise.

  5. We've had the same experience, delivered water room temp, was in room when we got there a few times, was there after muster a few times. Ask for an ice bucket, and you will receive.

Better yet bring a small cooler or cooler bag and ask your steward to keep it iced up. Then keep that in your shower in case it leaks. That's what we do.

Also, we've preordered, and also done room service. Difference is the delivery charge. I tip more than a dollar if room service lugs a 12 pack to my cabin.

    That's my two cents worth.

  6. Found this on Carnival site:

    https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2634/~/liquor-and-beverage-policy-q%26a

    Q. Can I bring on board*a box of wine or wine coolers?

A.**A*1.5 liter box of wine is permitted as long as it is brought on board between two adult guests in the same staterroom.*Wine Coolers are permitted as long as the label reads 'Wine' and they do not exceed the limit.

Now, you just need to find out about taking multiple that add up to the allowance...

  7. I have always taken just a bottle of good champagne on my past cruises and just found these to be interesting. I know you can also purchase them in smaller containers as a 6 pack. I'm not sure that I would actually bring them and that is why I threw this out to cc people for opinions. Thank you all so much for the feedback. I have decided this is probably not the best way to go.

OP: I am pretty certain I read a post about someone bringing the six packs of wine cartons onboard during check in somewhere on CC. If I recall they let them take up to 1500ml because they had two adults. I do not recall what embarkation Port, etc. If you do some more searching you may find that post, and reach out to that poster about their experience.

  8. I love the fantasy class ships. They are smaller and I think the staff is more attentive and the lines are typically non existent.

The "regular" balcony cabins on this class are old ocean view room that had balconies added. This means they are probably the same size cabins since the balconies protrude off the side of the hull.
