Cant wait to read more! Sailing Escape in July with my dh for my 50th birthday!
I just got off the Getaway and even when our seas werent bad, the ship moved side to side not forward to backward and thanks for letting is know the Escape does the same. Didnt bother me but was sueprised at how much we swayed.

I would never board another Getaway/Escape class cruise ship for their constant swaying. I've done 11 cruises so far and have never seen anything remotely similar to the rocking and swaying of the Escape, even in calm waters.

It's very bad. And quite inline with most everything on this ship. The connection drops out, is very very slow most of the time and at times you won't be able to log out nd it will drain your mins. You can restore them most of the time by visiting the internet manager but you have wait in line(20-30 minutes, sometimes more)... Not a holiday I wish to repeat.

Doing a Barbados - Tenerife crossing 04 April - 10 April. What weather and seas should we be expecting, if you have done this or a similar route? I know weather can be unpredictable but is generally consistent month for month over certain routes.

I had the same thing on my mind. I wanted to know what kind of crowd is at Skyline and what type of music is played...EDM? Hip hop? Top 40?
Some nights it would be 70's, some nights the bar would not work as a disco club at all and just play low volume background tunes. The celiling sits low and gives the impression that the place is tight and crowded. Not my cup of tea.

We walked off on the Escape and had a TA flight at 12:30. It took us 1 hour to get off the damn ship as stewards wouldn't let us go because supposedly, there were people at the customs. Having left our room at 08:45, we were at the Miami airport at 10:15.

It's still cold and chilly at that early time so loungers will abound.

Still much better than being stranded at sea on a broken ship or worse. Good luck continuing your vacation.

Check out these documents:
From Costa US site - search for Onboard Currency:
http://www.costacruise.com/contents/USA/pdf/USEFULinformation.pdf
Thanks! This sounds like definitely Euros(the cruise starts in La Romana, Dominican republic):
"The currency will generally be U.S. Dollars
for cruises that begin and end in U.S. ports (most
Caribbean cruises) and Euros for cruises
that begin or end in European ports (such as Medite
rranean and Transatlantic cruises)."
-
How was the WIFI, if you have used it?
-
What is the currency on Transatlantic cruises originating in the Caribbean?
-
I was contacted at the beginning of the month by NCL's upsell department and placed a bet on a higher category room on the Escape. My cruise departs in 45 days. When should i expect a call/email? If my bid isn't accepted, will i get a reply nonetheless?
Thanks!

Water temps are okay - air temps will be about 80-81. Perfect beach weather.

How can i delete this thread? It didn't bring any useful information and isn't doing justice to Costa and its employees as out of a million cruises, Carnival's ships only failed 3 times and Costa once. I wish i could delete it and not cause any harm to the cruise line.

Those generators in the little container housings were primarily for hotel services. Namely to keep the toilets flushing, water purification, lighting, etc.
Here is a propulsion engine....
Thanks but what does this clarify with regards to generators upgarades?
-
Well they sort of do. Diesel engines drive the generators which produce electricity for the electric motors that rotate the propellers. Most journalists aren't professionals and when they reported that fires in the engine rooms shut down the propulsion and the electricity onboard, it seems they weren't aware that there were different types of generators onboard and what was upgraded. I myself was never able to find online onformation what specifically was upgraded - most press releases simply provided the generic info - "Carnival will upgrade the generators on all of its ships". Nor was i able to understand if Costa was part of these fleet-wide upgrades. But the fact remains - fires in all cases started in the engine rooms which depending on the lay out, may call for generators to be upgraded together with the emergency generators which were badly positioned and caused all Hell to break loose on a few ships.

Hello Ku4anci. pleased that you enjoyed Costa cruises. We've sailed various lines too and Costa is as enjoyable as the rest. Happy cruising.:)
I have 3 cruises coming up in the next 4 months - 1 on Norwegian Escape and Navigator of the Seas out of Miami, but the one i am really looking forward to is Costa Favolosa. I really have no idea what some others are complaining about.
-
:) LOL
No mention of generators upgrade on Costa website. News outlets reported that Carnival has spent $300 million on upgrades to its fleet but there is no info if Costa received any or all of these upgrades. We don't have a Costa rep where i come from so cannot inquire(and they would probably be the last to know).
-
After some very serious mishaps at sea and ships stranded without propulsion, Carnival upgraded the emergency generators of its entire fleet. Costa being a subsidiary and running the very same ships - did they upgrade too? I have booked a Transatlantic cruise and am a bit nervous.
-
I have done 10 cruises so far and out of Royal caribbean, Carnival, MSC, Costa and Norwegian, Costa was the best. Great food, excellent entertainment(lots of great live music and crowds dancing, great disco, , happy faces all around, etc.). Younger crowds will tend to like Costa better than the rest. The elderly - stick to quiat RC.
I've been on Costa Serena and just booked a TA on Costa Favolosa. Should be fabilousa.
-
The Escape sails through the Atlantic ocean due to its Eastern caribbean destinations and so far on two different ships(Carnival Breeze and Independence of the Seas) we always had high seas and strong winds - i.e. the Lido deck was mostly closed for safety reasons.
What did others see during their sailings?
-
Thanks for your replies. Anyone been recently on the Escapeband having first hand experience of the wifi?
-
Hi! My NCL Escape cruise is coming up in less than 2 months and when I booked the cruise, I am sure my booking included $100 onboard credit. For some reason my original invoice doesn't say anything about it nor does my account on ncl.com mention anything related to onboard credit. Last year was similar - I only found out that I have onboard credit after I boarded Carnival Glory.
is there any way to tell in advance what and how much there is?
-
We are going on a cruise in the beginning of January and wondering if internet speed has been improved on the Escape? I got the 250 min. package and hope it wll be similar to Carnival which was fantastic speed-wise last January.

How good a swimmer are you?
Good enough but the little one can do no more than 500 feet. :)
I may call Great harbour cay marina to see if they can bring a boat to pick us up.
Transatlantic in April - what's the weather like?
in Costa Cruises
Posted
The weather was perfect the entire time throughout the Atlantic- better than most Caribbean cruises I've taken(about a dozen). The most we saw were waves 1-1.5 metres high and most of the time below 1 metres(I could ride my SOB boat in such conditions. Very happy with the cruise - the food isn't the best in the industry but the shows in the theatre were class leading every night as was the entertainment as a whole. The staff were great and going out of their way to please everyone.
