  1. Hello, did you dine in the Palm restaurant, MDR? We go on MG in Feb and I like the look of Palm and also its traditional dining, late seating. Do you know if we can still get to go to specialty restaurants if we want as well?  I keep going back and forth, thought I read to eat specialty you can only dine in the flamingo dining room.?

thanks, loving your review! We are also staying at the Home 2 suites.

I booked 2 Carnival Kitchen classes on the Carnival Mardi Gras for July.  I paid for them using onboard credit.  I am thinking I might want to change one of them.  When I go in the site to edit them, it only appears to allow me to cancel.  If I cancel and turn around and want to rebook, will the onboard credit be refunded so I can then reuse it to rebook? I thought somewhere I saw OBC was not refundable.  How would it work in this situation?

Can I ask when did you book? Was it under specialty dining? I’m going on MG Feb 2024- would love to book Carnival kitchen but don’t see it as an option, maybe it’s too early to book? Or am I too late and it sold out already?

    thanks!

    Pre-Cruise Hotel Info:

On one of our land vacations to the Keys last year, we stopped in Cape Canaveral as a quick overnight to visit our favorite port to sail away from. We were itching for some yummy food from Fishlips, and we wanted to see our beloved ships in port...including the shiny new Mardi Gras! As is our tradition when in PC, we booked to stay at Raddisson Resort at the Port….we love that awesome pool, and every time we have stayed there it has been nice.

WOW……have things changed! The room we were put in was NOT up to standards. It looked like a cheap hotel you’d rent by the hour, if you know what I mean. I really didn’t want to lay down in that bed, for fear of bedbugs (which I checked for by the way!) and when I did it was squeaky, and the linens were scratchy. I refused to bring my suitcase in the room, for fear of creepy crawlies getting in it. The carpet was frayed and had stains in it, and the bathroom had stains in the toilet and tub.  I heard a few others complaining about the condition of the hotel as well, and even DH, who can sleep in a hammock between a tree for all he cares, said it was run-down and nothing like it used to be. The pool was still beautifully kept up, but they really need to invest some money into the rooms.

So, with that said, when I booked this cruise I did not even consider staying at Raddisson pre-cruise like in the past. I looked around online, and settled on trying out Home2 Suites by Hilton, which I THINK is kinda close to Raddisson. The address says it is at 9004 Astronaut Blvd, so it shouldn’t be hard to find. We shall see! I didn’t see a Park & Cruise package like Raddisson has (but then again, I was not sober when I booked….I discovered Absinthe and drank ½ a bottle of it as I was researching….word to the wise, absinthe is NOT your friend if you drink that much of it) so I very well may have overlooked it on their site. Oh well, I am not heartbroken about parking at the port….I actually like parking at Port Canaveral, it is easy peasy lemon squeezy, and when I hop off the ship I can just get in the truck and start zooming home!

I just found your review, great so far, we are on MG next Feb. we also have stayed at Radisson and one time had ants crawling up the walls 😬😕 , needless to say I have booked at Marriott for this next time around. It does look like they may be renovating but not sure.  Looking forward to reading the rest of the review. 🙂

The first three rows will get wet… they kick water out into the audience plus the water effects will splash.  The next three rows will get a little wet due to wind conditions, so you will feel mist and drips here and there and of course when they “fly” back and forth you will get a drip here and there!

Thank you!   Great review BTW- we were supposed to go on SOS in Feb but moved to August instead.

    looking forward to it!

I'll add that there is a fee for the zip line and the hot air balloon, that is if either are in operation.  I believe that you can ride both of those separate from the Thrill Waterpark.  Someone please correct me if that's not true.  Food is free except for wings and fries at Captain Jack's.  There is an upcharge for them.

is it best to purchase these tickets now before we board in Feb?  thanks

The  pool right at the Pier.     Beach, pool, and shopping all at the end of the pier.   An easy relaxed day.

Is this at Margaritaville? Do you have access to beach also or just the pool?

  7. I had the pleasure to be onboard the Carnival Horizon for 3 nights (first part of the regular 7 night cruise). Here´s my detailled photo review starting with part 1 - ship deck 1 to 9. The text is in German but a translation is not really needed due to the many photos. Anyway you can try out google translate. More parts are to follow over the next days.

  8. Hi everyone!

I feel in love with cruising back in 2004 but since I have only been able to do 4 cruises. Mostly because I am a single girl (30) in Miami (NEAR THE PORT) and can't find people to commit. I am so sad to see people constantly posting about their upcoming trips. So I am wanting to know if there is anyone, or anyone who has advice on cruising solo? I am a social person but I do not like to intrude if I see a group of people. Am I going to feel left out or alone?

Then the next questions is who has done B2B cruises? Pros cons? How do you know how much to pack? Do you do laundry on board or just pack for two, seven day cruises? Any information would be greatly appreciarted

    Hi,

I have done several solo cruises on a few different lines. I love it!

I have had roommates and had rooms to myself.

I consider myself shy and an introvert so cruising solo is good and gets me to open up and chat with folks. People on vacation are usually easy to talk to.

I love being able to do what I want when I want, and be social or not.

I sit with groups at dinner to meet people and in return they seem intrigued that I go solo even though I am married with a 9 yr old.

I think it depends on the cruise line too, solo on carnival was a different experience than my solo cruise on Princess.

  9. Being under the dining room isn't bad at all, sometimes they move chairs at the end of service but the real noise concern is under the galley. I personally would move. If there are 3 of you get an aft extended balcony. I can't stay anywhere else. Best view but be prepared for vibrations on port mornings.

So now I’m torn; I booked family harbor suite 2315 under the galley, the aft family harbor rooms are small but under dining room. Not sure what to do. I want to stay in family harbor area as we will be traveling with my 10 yr old son. The noise won’t bother me as I’m hearing impaired but my husband and son have good hearing.

So suite bigger room and galley noise OR aft cabin smaller and dining room noise.?

  11. I just got off the Sunshine August 7th and my son and I ate at Cucina, it was the best meal I had on the ship! He had pasta and I had Caprese salad (too big for just me) and the chicken parm, it was awesome and being on a fitness plan, I don't typically eat a lot of food at one time, but I ate the entire piece of chicken, it was that good! I think you have to go to what you like as far as food. I tried JiJi's for lunch and picked the wrong sauce so I didn't enjoy it as much as others have stated. I also ate in the dining room, but still found the Italian food in Cucina to be top notch!

    Enjoy whatever you choose!

  12. I didn't read through all the replies. Am I correct that even though you lost hearing, you are able to speak?

Do you know sign language ?

I'm asking because my deaf son and deaf DIL are seasoned cruisers. All the cruise lines they have used have provider interpreters for them. Their stateroom is equipped with flashing lights and a TDD.

We are sailing again to Hawaii on the Splendor Oct. 13, 2018. The interpreters have been assigned.

My DS and DIL do not lip read and rely solely on sign language, so this may not be applicable to you.

    Hi Patti

I do speak normal which can be an issue, when you hear me talk you wouldn't know I was hearing impaired. I've known people for a long time who had no clue I had hearing aids.

Even at 14 when I first wore them I would wear my hair up so people can see them and ask questions. I'm more than happy to educate people and hope if people see my young self wearing them they won't feel bad should they ever need them.

I think because I learned to speak before I lost my hearing I'm able to sound like I don't have a disability.

Although I cruise alone I have had roommates and the one time I was alone I don't recall using any services and with hotels as long as I let the hotel staff know about my hearing I don't worry much.

It would be helpful if some cruise ship cabins were equipped like hearing impaired hotel rooms..... don't think I've stayed in one but I know they exist.

  13. I am hearing impaired, but was adopted, also on a plane at 1 day old , so not sure if it was the plane ride, or infections I had as a child. My bones in my ears are essentially gone now.

My hearing didn't become an issue till later middle school when my grades became bad.

So, several surgeries later, mastoid, tympanoplasty , reconstruction, skin grafts... I had my first set of in the ear aids at 14.

Analog way back when but now use digital aids. Have been traveling since I was 9 and cruising since 1999. I'm 46 now.

I almost got a hearing dog once. I'm married now with an 8 yr old.

I travel alone and cruise alone often with no worries, I'm not afraid to let people know I'm Hearing impaired,

Although most people don't notice cause my hair is long, the silent disability they call it.

I love to cruise and won't let a disability hold me back, life is too short. My 8 yr old and I are going on a Cruise in 2 weeks. He will help if I need it.

I also don't wear them in pool, or sleeping but read lips and know some sign language. I sleep like a baby too!! And if my son is screaming to loud, I just turn down my volume! Haha. He doesn't appreciate that !

I used to be shy and introvert but I force myself to be around people and open up often sitting at big tables , love to people watch and just being on the ocean grateful to be alive and that someone loved me enough to give me up even though they couldn't keep me as their own.

So I say cruise on and live life the best you can, good people will be understanding and help if needed!

    All the best....

  14. Which dining room is "Your time" dining on the Sunshine?

On the Glory it was the front dining room and there was always cigarette smoke from the casino wafting in which made it gross. I'd like to avoid the front dining room on the Sunshine.

I think someone said sunrise dining room was for anytime dining, which is aft. The sunset dining room is in the middle and below the casino I believe

  15. Hi Radio

Looks like you had a couple of beautiful days. Weather up north is starting to warm up a bit, 60"s tomorrow.

Can anyone do the travel tour at Sandals or was that a special arrangement?

Back about 10 yrs ago when I worked as a travel agent, I spent the day and got a tour of Our Lucaya Resort in Freeport. Beautiful resort.

I got to do the same at Atlantis.... those were good days, but no longer in travel biz. I miss those perks!
