Thanks Judy!!! For a very comprehensive idea about Edge!!! I think...it is still not our "cup of tea" ...but that has a lot to do with our age...and ability to travel right now!!! But I DO love the new X ad on TV (at least in So Cal) that features "White Rabbit"...as the theme song...as a young adult of the early 70s...I can GET that!!! 🙂 LOVE IT!!! 🙂

Yes, we have seen the Celebrity Edge ad on TV and like it. The ship does have a modern design, so it's not everyone's "cup of tea." We enjoyed it but are not anxious to sail on the Edge or Apex in the near future, unless there is a really good deal offered that is too good to pass up.

I did golf...a long time ago...then when I wanted to "wrap my golf club around a palm tree" I decided to give it up!! Based on what I read here the "Perry "Golf" cruises seem very popular and fun...is that what your "peeps" are considering???  If so it might be a "good fit"! RE "cabin crawls"...I do think that is more of an X "thing"...I did those in the past...usually when the S ships came out...which (it's been 10 years ago already) were just so "new and cool"!!! 🙂 I would love to hear what you think about "Edge"...TBH I'm not "sold" yet...but then I've been sailing X since 2001...and maybe I'm just not "hip" enough to "get it"!!! 🙂 :") 🙂 To be on the cruise for the "Grand Prix"??...THAT would be just too fun!!! "Book it Danno"...I'm pretty sure that might "sell out" fast!!! We were lucky enough to "drive" that route once ...with a guide in a van...not "quite" the same thing...and it was fun...to see it ..."in person"...would be just "AMZ'ing"!!! LuAnn

I saw this post regarding your wanting to know about the Edge. My husband and I were on the Edge last year around this time for a B2B Caribbean Cruise. We enjoyed it very much. We were in an Infinite Balcony, and the first stateroom we had was fine, but we had to move to a different stateroom for the second week because the cabin we were in the first week was booked by someone else. The second cabin we were in had some issues. We reported the issues, and one of them was fixed, but the second issue (heat radiating from behind the bathroom mirror) was not fixed. We were told it couldn’t be fixed. We enjoyed the way the ship was decorated and the different venues onboard, e.g. Eden and the Magic Carpet. There were some recommendations made by passengers regarding improvements that could be made to the ship like adding more dance floor space, and I heard that Celebrity has incorporated some of those recommended changes. There are 4 main restaurants on the Edge, each with a different theme, i.e. Italian, Greek, Cosmopolitan and French. We tried all of them and enjoyed the food in each one. They were all decorated differently to match the theme of the restaurant. To give you an example of the ship’s decor, there was a ship on display that was made entirely of pearls. It was stunning! Also there was a forest of brass trees that you had to walk through to get to Eden, and instrumental music played in this space as you walked through it. I could go on and on, but these are just some highlights to give you an idea of what it is like. I took lots of pictures of various venues on the ship.

Thanks to you and everyone else who has contributed to this board. I just found out about this board and am not quite halfway through reading all the pages. My husband and I will be going on our first Azamara Cruise in December on the Quest. In the past we have sailed primarily on Celebrity and have reached Elite Plus status on Celebrity. Years ago we sailed on a Renaissance Cruise ship which I understand is the same size as Azamara ships. Some Renaissance ships became Azamara ships, but I don’t think the ship we were on, the R6, is one of them. I am just now starting to check on tours and airfares for our upcoming Azamara Cruise, and I have posted on that CC roll call, but only one other person on that cruise has posted so far. That is quite different from my experience on other CC roll calls for previous cruises.

  4. I am doing the Nuremberg to Budapest this December. If you remember from 2014, please let me know - morning half looks like city tour, they bring you back to the cruise for lunch ? then take you back and leave you at the markets for free time ? I also want to ask you about prices for souvenirs as these would be in Hungarian forints and I need to get the exchange in advance. Any chance you bought those painted egg ornaments ? how much was one roughly ? any other prices if you can remember please share. thank you

We were in Budapest about 3 years ago and bought some of the painted egg ornaments. If I remember correctly, they ran about $10 apiece. You can convert that over to the correct currency.

  5. Hi, I have done the Tulip Time Cruise (back in 2016)…...I went in the middle of April and it was cool and sunny outside and the flowers were all in bloom:D. I went with AMA and loved it:D

Thanks! That is about the timeframe we are thinking about doing it, i.e. around the middle of April. Does it matter which ship we choose, or are they all about the same? Also, do you know when the 2020 itieneraries will become available? Thanks again for your help.

  6. For anyone who is doing the Amsterdam Tulip Time cruise you can add the AmaKristina which is cruising on April 9, you will be able to get an overview of what is happening each day of the cruise. Thanks again.

Since you mentioned it, we are thinking of booking one of the Tulip Time cruises in 2020. Do you or anyone else on this board have a suggestion as to what dates and ships we should consider when booking this cruise? Thank you for any advice you can provide.

    Judy and Bill

  7. Hello!

My guide in Amsterdam is Frank K, he has been great to deal with so far. The canal cruise was booked with www.privateboattours.nl after recommendations from a friend who did a cruise with them. The two restaurants we booked, based on getting Dutch food that was not too eclectic and fancy and that had good reviews, were Bleu Bistro https://www.facebook.com/bleuamsterdam and Van Speyk http://vanspeyk.amsterdam.

I am just now starting to read all of the posts on this board. My husband and I are considering booking our first river cruise on AmaWaterways in 2020, so the information on this board is very helpful. I also wanted to comment on the Van Speyk restaurant in Amsterdam. We went there for a pre-cruise dinner with a group of people who were going to be on a Celebrity Silhouette Cruise with us that began in Amsterdam in August 2016. We all enjoyed the food there.

  8. We are doing the last Radiance southbound, departing August 31st.

This is our second Alaska cruise.

This time I planned our own pre cruise tour.

    Can't wait to go!

We were originally booked on the Radiance for a cruise tour beginning on June 17, but due to a recent automobile accident, we had to cancel it. We are hoping to be able to reschedule an Alaska cruise/tour by 2020, and we are thinking we might like to take a late sailing so that it might give us the opportunity of seeing the Northern Lights in Fairbanks. We would be interested in getting more details on your sailing and pre cruise tour. If you don't mind sharing that information with us, here is my email address: golightj at gmail.com

    Thank you.

    Judy

  9. For anyone who will be in Anchorage on June 16 and might be looking for something good to do, I have a tour that I had booked for my husband and myself that we will not be able to go on now. We were in an automobile accident recently, and as a result, we have had to cancel our Alaska Cruise/Tour. Here is the information on the tour: Alaska's Finest Tours & Cruises "Glacier and Wildlife Explorer Tour" for 2 on Saturday, June 16 that starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Anchorage Visitor's Center directly behind the log cabin in downtown Anchorage. I can transfer this tour to 2 other individuals who are interested in taking this tour. The tour includes a boat ride to the Portage Glacier and wildlife sightings. It received very high ratings on Trip Advisor. If anyone is interested in taking this tour, you can contact me at: golightj at gmail.com

    Thank you!

  10. Not trying to speak for the OP but figured I could answer some stuff until she can.

Most people have a very negative opinion of the RCI pizza. Personally, I have found times when it was terrible but on the whole I have no issue with it. There's a long thread with lots of strong opinions if you're interested... https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2610575

No, there is not a burger bar. They have burgers in the Windjammer buffet but they are not very good (the patties are cooked and thrown into a metal pan, like most buffet food). I like to eat a lot and I'm not picky but I rarely eat burgers on cruises. They're edible unless you're picky, but there are too many better options IMO... random buffet items, Park Cafe inside the Solarium with the famous roast beef sandwich (Kummelweck) along with made-to-order salads, paninis, and other snacks, and the "Dog House" with several different types of hot dogs). Those are your main options for free casual food. Naturally there is also the MDR and the specialty restaurants.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of this information! It is very helpful!

  11. LOL, that's exactly what I said to my wife when I read that (my first time on Radiance as well). She cruised as a kid and has been on older "curtain ships" before. Her advice is to lay a towel or two around the outside edge of the shower to soak up any water that may escape.

That was my thought too, i.e. to put a towel around the outside of the shower in case any water gets out of the shower.

  12. We'll be on Radiance Soutbound leaving 6/22 after 10 days on land (DIY with much assistance from an outside company).

Have a great trip, thanks again for offering to check out stuff for the rest of us, and looking forward to everything you have to share!

We too are sailing Southbound on the Radiance on 6/22 after doing a 5 night pre-cruise tour through RC. This will be our first time sailing on the Radiance. We did, however, sail on the Serenade of the Seas last year, and I have heard they look the same. Is that correct?

  13. Hi Celebrity cruisers,

Ok here is the deal, we are Diamond members with Royal & have decided to give Celebrity a go.

I have ascertained of the ships sailing out of Sydney, Solstice is the one to go on.

But I need advice on cabin type & cabin position.

We like balcony cabins & prefer mid to higher decks.

I see Celebrity offers a few variations on balcony or veranda cabins, are the more expensive veranda cabins worth the money?

What areas of the ship are noisiest, what decks are preferred.

Do they have an adults only pool/solarium areas like Royal?

What are the best dining options.

    Thanks for any tips.:)

Hello! My husband and I were on the Solstice from Auckland to Sydney in March to April 2014. We enjoyed it. It is a nice ship. They do have a solarium. We chose the late seating in the main dining room so that we wouldn't have to rush back to the ship to get cleaned up for dinner. We ate dinner one time at the Tuscan Grill specialty restaurant and enjoyed it very much. They have great steaks and other food. I have also heard that the Murano specialty restaurant is good. They specialize in French style food. Silk Harvest is another specialty restaurant which has Asian type food. The Bistro on Five is a casual specialty restaurant that serves nice crepes, sandwiches and soups, for a small extra fee. It used to be $5 per person, but it may have gone up. We too like cabins with balconies, mid ship and on higher levels. The most important thing is to request an unobstructed view, and make sure that there are cabins above and below your cabin so that you don't have to deal with noise from public areas. I spoke to Celebrity today, and they are offering a special 1-2-3 promotion right now through 1/4/15 on cruises booked in Concierge Class cabins and above. The sailings included in this promotion are ones after February 2015. The 1-2-3 promotion includes a free beverage package, free gratuities and onboard credit of $300 per stateroom. It sounds like a great deal! Also, you can use Choiceair to book flights. Choiceair is a separate department that Celebrity uses to help passengers book flights, and they may be able to find better airfares for you, if you need them. I hope this information helps. By the way, my husband and I have been to Australia twice in the past 2 years, and love it! We also liked New Zealand. Enjoy your cruise! Judy

  14. You are quite welcome. Thank you again! I am glad to return a favor of the joy I get from those who do "Live" postings. I have read it myself a few times and I have to admit I am a bit embarrased over some of the typos, but hey it was vacation so I can cut myself some slack!:D

I hope to take some time this week and do my wrap up posting and thoughts. I came home to a death of a 47 year old man leaving a widow and four daughters (a junior in HS, 7th Grade, twin second graders) and a planned commital and recommital the same week...followed by an out of town conference for two days.

I wonder how I get any other ministry things done sometimes. Anyway, maybe the time to reflect upon this marvelous vacation will prove to be a blessing.

And I look forward to seeing this cruise through the eyes and camera lens of others also!

I am so sorry for the family of the 47 year old man. My sympathy and prayers go out to them. I hope that you find some time to rest. Judy

  15. True still no bread baskets or salt and pepper but I can deal with that. The sailing seems to be doing well at least. I e not heard of any cases or noro. I wasn't well one night and stayed in the cabin but didn't have the runs or tossing if cookies. Whatever I had left in a few hours with a fever that broke overnight. So, is the ship healthy? Maybe not, but its doing well considering.

I'm still sad to have it ending soon. :(

We just got back home tonight from the October 5-19 sailing on the Summit, and all three of us (our son included) got colds toward the end of the cruise. We heard others on the ship coughing too, including some of the crew. So instead of the noro, the common cold seemed to be going around. Hopefully the next sailing won't experience any of that. Judy and Bill

  16. Ship is supposedly still noro free. We came out from the restrictions this past Friday I think it was. The crew has been working their tails off.

There are still restrictions in the main dining room, i.e. no salt and pepper shakers or bread on the table. The waiters still have to serve that to you. I heard the only reason the buffet is back to normal is because of so many passenger complaints. I have seen some things that passengers did at the buffet since the restrictions were lifted that concerned me, e.g. one man picked up a cookie from a tray of cookies with his hand instead of using the tongs, and a lady dropped a sign on the floor and couldn't reach it with her hands, so she used her foot to reach it and drag it over to her. Then she picked it up and put it back on the top shelf above the food. Yuk!
