  1. Arc'teryx is an amazing brand: https://www.arcteryx.com/us/en/c/womens/dresses-and-skirts/

I have the "Cala" in the blue (looks more like a teal blue -- beautiful shade), and 2 "Contenta" dresses (black and a brick-red colour no longer available). They're made of the same, tissue paper-weight fabric, which has a slight stretch. They are super, super light weight and dry in an instant. We travel with only carry-on and sink-wash almost daily, so these features are important to me. I've worn the Cala to work, and I continue to get compliments, as it is very flattering. I can't wait to take it on my Med cruise in October.

    Cheers!

  2. ... <<snip>>>

The stop closest to where the port shuttle drops you off is on Via Aurelia (aka Via XVI Settembre), just north of the intersection of Via Raffaele Cadorna. You'll see a newsstand or shop between the shuttle bus drop off and the bus stop where you can purchase the bus ticket.... <<<snip>>>>

Thank you so much for this information. I, too, am interested in this... I'm looking really closely on GoogleMap StreetView for that area. I'm afraid I cannot find any signage that shows a bus stop. I'm looking northbound, on the east side of the street. I see a large sign that shows directional arrows; a few blue signs for the B.L.F (gas station)... but nothing for a bus stop. Would you be able to shed any light on exactly where one would stand to ensure the Tarquinia-bound bus actually stops? Thanks!

  3. We are doing a cruise from Venice and looking to add on 4 days after the cruise. Any ideas on where to go? Thinking of Vienna or Munich and flying back to Toronto from there.

Also thought of driving from Venice to Slovenia and flying back to Toronto from Venice.

    Thanks for any advice, Karen

Rick Steves (my travel guru) used to recommend trains for getting around Europe, but recently he has changed his advice to flying, as flying within Europe is often much less expensive. So, That's what we did last time. Our cruise was Rome-Rome, but we flew to London, first, spent a few days, then flew to Rome (for something like $100). If you fly, then you can pick anywhere in Europe... it opens up a lot more options. Then, we flew home from Rome after we disembarked.

Personally, I prefer to do stuff pre-cruise, rather than post-cruise. After the cruise, I'm just happy to continue on home. We are cruising this October Venice to Athens... we will spend 4 nights in Venice first, but that's because we love Venice. :-) We will also spend 2 nights in Athens post-cruise, but that's unusual for us.

So, I would definitely suggest that you look at the flight possibilities. Have fun! And, hey! I'm just a few hours from you, in Kingston!

  4. I also used the #1 vaporetto as my grand canal "tour" since it runs the length of the grand canal - but note that it makes every single stop - kind of goes in a zig zag fashion along the way which is fine, this is what enables one to see everything along the way without missing anything.

Also second (or third) that seeing Venice on one's own is quite effortless and easy to do. If you're starting out in Piazza San Marco, enjoy that - really a great place to start, then hop on the vaporetto nearby and then get off near the train station...then work your way back to Piazza San Marco via a combo of main areas and "getting lost" in back "calles" as this is TRULY the way to have a taste of Venice. Don't worry - there's no way to get lost!

Anyway, you'll see the Rialto Bridge and other renowned places along the way to Piazza San Marco - just no need for a tour in Venice. Enjoy the visit.

    Ciao :)

Ha! Couldn't agree more! In fact, I had to look at the source of this post to see if I had written it awhile ago! LOL. Definitely DIY with the Rick Steves (FREE) audiotour downloaded to an MP3 device. Wear earbuds. Try to get a seat at the bow of Vap #1, and enjoy your personal audio tour! Hubby & I did this a few years ago, again 2 years ago, and we will do exactly the same thing this October when we depart from there on Celebrity Constellation. We use Rick Steves free audio tour downloads for all our European sight-seeing. Also, I download his interview podcasts and listen to them just before our trip to get me in the mood for the destinations! He has an app, and then you select what audio tours/podcasts you want to download.

  5. Gosh we didn't get any notification about the change, but we found it out ourselves. I'm actually really happy with the change. It means a long port day in Athens, which takes the pressure off (we sight-see on our own), and we plan to stay two nights in Istanbul post cruise, which will be nice. We've already booked our flights through choice air, so I really hope there isn't a need for the cruise to change again... For our sake as well as for the people in that region!
