  1. I often laugh at some of the negative posts. “OMG There was a finger print on the mirror!”, “The cheese on my omelet wasn’t melted!”, “I only got one olive in my martini!” It makes one wonder how the negative posters would deal with real tragedy ……… like cancer.

Best wishes to you and your wife, OP. I hope you have the time of your life on your upcoming cruise.

  2. For clarification, I don't mind the drive. It is the driving that far alone that bothers me. :)

If you have a cell phone you’re never really alone. ;)

My strategy for taking the edge off of a long drive is to play all of the Beatles albums from beginning to end. (If you do this you’re allowed to skip that nasty Lennon/Yoko Ono monstrosity on the White Album. After all, it’s not music. In fact, I’ve never known what it is.)

  3. Might have to reconsider. At least according to the itinerary, we don't dock until 8am.

Give it a try as see what happens. My luck is notoriously bad so I’m sure you’re chances of getting to the ceremony would be much better than mine. And even if you don’t get to the ceremony the tour of the Citadelle is very good and it includes the best view in Quebec from the top of Cape Diamond.

  4. Sounds like we would need to be on a tour by 9 or 9:30.

    Correct?

The way I remember it, and keep in mind that this was ten years ago, the tours began at 9:00 and a new tour began every fifteen minutes. They began selling tickets at 8:00. We got there between 8:15 and 8:30 and all the tours that included the ceremony were sold out except the very last one. If you get there after 8:30 I would expect that you'd be too late.

Don't be concerned about getting there too early. If you have time to kill before your tour there are several interesting sites that are very close to the entrance to the Citadelle. And after the ceremony is over don't rush off. I you wait around afterwards you can have your picture taken with Batisse, the regimental mascot.;)

  5. Sounds good. Do you know what time you need to get there to have a good spot for the changing of the guard?

You can't go directly to the parade grounds. In order to attend the Changing of the Guard you'll need to be on one of the Citadelle tours and you'll be escorted to the parade grounds by a tour guide. It's been ten years since we've been there, but the way I remember it there was plenty of room around the parade grounds for everyone to have a front row view. The only trick was to make sure that you're on one of the tours that includes the cermony.

Also, if you're planning to walk from the ship to the Citadelle be prepared for a *very* steep up hill climb.
