I am booked on May 15 out of Civitavecchia. Does anyone have inside information on what Celebrity plans to do?  I am not worried about the virus but need to deal with airfare etc. Also, the cancellation penalty goes to Up 50 % This weekend.

I was booked on same cruise until two days ago when I called to cancel. Took the 25% hit. The TA that I spoke with said she had no updates on that cruise regarding cancellation or change of port. I cancelled without insuraance because I am over 70 traveling with my daughter. I'm in good health but caught a virus in June travelling that put me in hospital for a week after returning home.  Didn't want to take a risk that conditions will worsen, which i think they have, and get sick again.  I thought if things improve I'll book same cruise maybe cheaper.

My air is with points so I can redeposit them with UA for a fee.

Now I don't have to stress about the $ anymore. But sad because we really were excited about this cruise. Had been in plans for a year.

I called my sister last night and told her she should cancel her Apex cruise leaving from Rome in May before final payment is due in a few days. She has some health concerns that could make her more vulnerable to the virus. If it turns out all is ok in May after all, I told her the prices will be far lower than the price she reserved and she can always rebook. But, every indication in the last week is that the situation will get worse rather better in the near to mid term in the cruise world, particularly with the expansion of the virus in Italy.

When she called Celebrity to cancel, she said the agent sounded very stressed and was dealing with a lot of cancellations and was getting hourly updates about the virus.

I am very relieved she cancelled. I was thinking of taking my family in April over school break because the prices are good, but am not going to now. This is a very serious virus for which there is no vaccine and no immunity. There should be no bravado. If you feel unsafe, you should cancel. You can always cruise later once where we see where things go in this new and rapidly developing situation.

I agree with you completely.  Today I cancelled my May 15 cruise from Rome. Did not have insurance and took the 25% hit. I had to protect myself and my daughter. If things improve I'll rebook.  Maybe offset hit with lower price.  You cannot put a value on health and safety.

  3. If they are not allowing boarding to anyone - passenger or crew - who has travel thru the infected countries within 14 days...….

So if I have a cruise departing Rome and I arrive in Rome the day before, will they refused me entry onto the ship as Italy is one of the counties listed?  How will that work if they are departing from the same country that they are banning travel from?

  4. I would like to give 5 stars to Italytours.eu during our recent cruise in the Mediterrean.

We booked 4 tours with them and each tour was great and very memorable. The pickup in each port was on time; each driver spoke English and was very knowledgeable in the local history; we were always given time to eat lunch and do a little shopping; we were always back to our ship with plenty of time to spare. The land guides were professional and very informed.

Port of Marseilles - Tour #1

Our driver Simon was wonderful. He knew the local history and culture. We loved the four Provence towns of Arles, Les Baux, St. Remy and Avignon. I think Les Baux was the best for shopping but we loved Arles and its Roman, French and Spanish influences. It was a long day but Simon kept us laughing and moving along on schedule.

Port of La Spezia - Tour Best of Florence

Our driver Francesco was terrific. He spoke great English, was personable, very knowledgeable and gave us lots of local information during our drive to and from Florence. Our land guide was also very good and took us on a walk thru the historic central area of Florence and down some wonderful medieval streets. We had skipped the museum tour so we had more time for lunch and a little shopping.

Port of Civitavecchia - Tour Best of Rome

Our driver Alessandro was also exceptional. Professional, he spoke very good English and was very informed. He gave us a wonderful driving tour of Rome where we saw many great sites. After our driving tour he took us to an area for lunch where we had a choice of good restaurants. Then he turned us over to Sabine for our Vatican tour. She was wonderful and gave us so much information about the Vatican and its history, including the history of a lot of its art. The Vatican tour was overwhelming and not to be missed.

Port of Naples – Tour Pompeii, Sorrento & Positano

Our driver Luca was very good. He spoke good English. At Pompeii we were turned over to our land guide Gino who was very experienced as a guide and knew a lot about the restoration and history of Pompeii. We really enjoyed visiting this incredible restored ruin and Gino made it even better. We continued our driving tour down the Amalfi coast to Sorrento where we had a wonderful lunch and then we were off down the coast to see the town of Positano. Enough time to stop for lemoncello and souvenirs before heading back to the ship.

In summary, please consider choosing Italytours.eu as your preferred tour company when cruising or travelling in Marseilles and Italy. We never worried about getting back to the ship on time. We were given precise instructions to our meeting location when arriving at the port. Each driver was courteous and informed and spoke very good English. The small groups were a plus. I don’t think we would have seen as much as we did if we had taken the larger groups from the ship tours.

I would never hesitate to use ItalyTours.eu, whenever I am in Marseilles or Italy again. Thank you for the great hassle free memories.
