  1. Can someone explain how this works in terms of flexibility in choosing the restaurants? Would I be able to go to the same restaurant twice or do you have to go to different restaurants each time. I was on the RC cruise planner page and it looks like RC chooses the first restaurant for you? I'm assuming you can change this if you want? I can choose the time, but I don't see the option to choose the restaurant I want to go to on the first or second night?

I like the idea of paying $25 for each restaurant. I'm thinking if Chops is going up in price (have seen $42 but my sailing in 2017 still shows $35) then the package might go up. I'm seriously considering it. Thanks in advance!

RCI reserves the first (sometimes the second nite) restaurant (they make the selection). However, you can change the reservation to any available restaurant once on board. You may go to the same restaurant multiple times, based on availability.

It's a great discounted package. The key is to make your reservations as soon as you board. We've done the package a couple times now.

  2. Hi,

I'm reading these posts with interest. We just booked two 13 night (gty inside cabins) cruises doing B2B, thru our TA (whom we've booked over 10 cruises with). Usually we get good locations & even an upgrade sometimes. We will be D+ after these cruises.

This time our cabin locations were at the very front of the ship & on different decks. Called our TA right away - explained we would like to get cabins close together if possible, could he do anything. He said it would be asking RCCL for a favour. Said normally people take what they get with Gty cabins. I understand what he's saying but, honestly expected a little more from this guy. I could see that there were plenty of cabins available at the back of the ship, as well as promenade, virtual balconies, etc. We weren't even asking for an upgrade.

Anyway, we persisted & he got us two cabins around the corner from each, which is acceptable. Wonder if I should have called RCCL directly instead?? Now I know this should have been a no brainer for him to do for us right?

Once you have been assigned a specific category cabin type, you should be able to move around within the category among available inventory.

  3. Following. Also interested in knowing how to coordinate ride back (from Horse Shoe Bay) using the minivan option. Are there scheduled times? Just coordinate directly with driver? wait and watch for minivans in parking lot at Horse Shoe Bay?

  4. We were on board for May 27 SB Alaska sailing. The refurbishment was a "technical refurb" only - it didn't have much impact on guest areas.

VOOM worked "ok" for surfing, but streaming did not work well (often we couldn't buffer enough content to stream). We purchased VOOM in advance on cruise planner, and asked for and received a refund on day 2.

Water was shut off for about 15 minutes one day, which did cause brownish/yellowish water to discharge from the pipes for a while after it was turned back on ... it didn't last long in our cabin and we didn't really consider it an issue.

We had an aft balcony, and they did come in our room on a port day to complete some exterior painting. It didn't impact us at all.

All in all, Radiance is showing her age a bit, but still quite a nice ship.

  5. Looking forward to it - we are on Radiance SB in June. I'm not sure what periscope is, but I'll look it up. What I'd love to see is the cruise compasses for the week. Are you taking requests?! Thanks in advance!

I'll try to walk thru the daily compass each day.

  6. I would love to get a pick of any Alaska specific scrapbooking kits that are offered for sale on the Radiance OTS. They would be in the photo shop or in the craft area (where they make jewelry, cards, etc.)

I’ll do my best to get you a picture of available supplies

We're hoping to book an Alaska cruise sometime in the near future. Really looking forward to your scopes!

    Thanks!

  8. We did Southbound from Seward on Radiance last May and loved it! I will love remembering it through your scopes. Highlight of our cruise was Icy Straights, especially the zip line.

Yep! We did the first south bound sailing last year too. Indeed the Zipliner at Icy Straights was fun! Will definitely do that again [emoji2].

  9. DH and I are going in August, so will be following along your review! How is the ship looking following the refurbishments? Any noteworthy updates? And is Rita's (Cantina or Crab Shack) still there or did they put in something else? We're trying the specialty restaurants on our cruise (normally do MTD but it was full), so curious as to what they now have. Thanks!

Rita's has once again be converted to Rita's Crab Shack for the 2016 Alaskan cruise season; Alaskan Brewing Co craft ale is also available on board.
