  1. Sailing the AmaDante November 8 with friends on the Rhine and Moselle itinerary -- Luxembourg to Basel. So glad I found this thread and thank you all for sharing. For most of us this is our first river cruise and from what I'm reading we are going to have a great time. Any tips about traveling in November? I am planning on layers but essentially dressing for winter with hat, gloves and scarf.

These boards were invaluable when we sailed the Queen Mary 2 in 2011.

We sailed the Danube late last November. We wore those thin thermals we purchased at Costco layered with a thin turtle neck and then a lightweight down jacket ($15 at Costco). Added a scarf and hat, gloves on occasion and we were set!

  2. I've been on 4 AMA cruises (Paris to Normandy, Tulip Time, Prague to Budapest, Taste of Bordeaux) & loved each one! Everyone I've met onboard has been a delight and you won't find better crews anywhere. I happen to be sailing on my 1st Viking river cruise (Christmas Markets) this November with a friend & I'm already regretting we won't be travelling with AMA after seeing all the nickel & diming Viking does with their excursions! Needless to say, next year, I'll be back with AMA for my Lyon to Arles trip;)

I'm going on the AmaLyra next year Paris to Normandy. Looking forward to seeing Monet's garden. Any tips? We did the last November sailing before the Christmas markets on the AmaSerena last November and loved it!! There were early markets in Vienna and Budapest.

  3. Now that you no longer get an upgraded lunch with a cabana, can you pretty much eat at any of the locations? Will the golf cart driver take you to maybe a less crowded area for lunch? I believe there are multiple so I would figure the further you're from the ship the less crowded it gets.

Barefoot beach is gated and you need a wristband to enter. Lunch had the usual burgers and hot dogs, but also included delicious BBQ ribs and shrimp/scallop skewers from the Lawn Club Grill.

  4. Our friends had the Penthouse Suite and got a free cabana on Barefoot beach. They were able to have 6 people total in the cabana, so we got to go. I spent most of my time floating in the beautiful water, so I doubt it would have been worth it if I had to pay.

I bought heart shaped soapstone rocks for $2 ea from the vendors. They were a tad aggressive, but still friendly and nothing I couldn't handle. The same rocks were $7 each in the Market area. I also bought a cute metal welcome sign for $15. Starting price was $65.:D

  5. Hi All!

We have rented a Nellies Over the Water cabana on a Feb 2014 cruise on IOS; there are 7 adults. Will this be an issue? It was my understanding it will not. We are all very excited to have a day on Labadee in a cabana.

I had no idea how much fun cabanas could be; this thread has been very fun for me to read!!!

    Thanks. :D

7 adults in a cabana? There are 2 lounge chairs on a deck and room for 2 others to sit inside.

  6. Thanks for the reply. What was served on the regular buffet?

I am still wondering what the advantages are for the cabanas other than providing some shade. We are a group of 8 adults, so it doesn't seem like it would work for us. I guess I plan on floating in the water for most of the time. Is there any decent snorkeling around there?

  7. It really depends on what you enjoying doing, ie: sightseeing vs snorkeling. Some popular excursions we are dping include: Marc's in Huahine, Bruno's in Raitea, Tara Vana Sunset Cruise in Bora Bora, and Teiva Tours in Bora Bora. Most of these involve snorkeling, and motu picnics, pearl farm, vanilla farm, etc. Doing a jeep island tour is sort of like an Indiana Jones adventure, especially if you stand up in the jeep! If you're not quite a diver but wnat to view the underwater life, the helmet dives are fun too. Best bet, search these boards and you will find a ton of information. Don't forget to find your roll call too....my best times have been excursions with my cruise critic friends!

  8. PRINCESS, we sail in oct. When do you sail. 7116 is right below 8066. As I see it on the diagram, 7116 has a larger balcony than 8066. I have heard that they fit 2 chairs and 2 lounge chair aswell on 7116. But I haven't heard anything about fitting any lounge chairs on 8066. That would be nice.

We sail 7/9/07! I am sure you will LOVE your cabin...besides, there isn't any place better than being in Tahiti!:D
