  1. No catch that I can think of.

You go to the TopCashback site and it links over to the Thomsons website where you just book in the normal fashion.

No issues with Manage My Booking as far as I recall.

You have to wait several weeks for your cashback - but no difficulties in my experience.

If you have a Thomsons credit card you can pay the deposit and/or balance without a credit card payment fee - worth having if even only for this benefit in my opinion - and it gives you reward points towards future cruises or holidays from Thomsons /First Choice.[/quote

Sounds like a good idea, I didn't realise Thomson do a credit card I will look into getting one before the balance on our TA is due.

  2. If you book via the TopCashback link to Thomsons website you'll get a "nice little earner" cash reward.

Paid for my cabin choice fee last cruise.

Hi WCM, when you book via TopCashback do you only go through their website to book and after that can you access your booking through Thomson manage my booking. My husband is suspicious of sites like TopCashback and thinks there must be a catch. TIA.

  3. We have had on board spend as recognition for every cruise after the first cruise. We always filled in the form electronically. Last September we had a family cruise and as well as our own cabin we booked 3 double berth cabins plus a single. We were the only people in our party who had cruised before with Thomson and again we received on board credit.

The only cruise we haven't been recognised as return customers was on the TA on the Dream earlier this year. We were told that we should collect a form to complete from reception and to return the form to the social hostess. We asked for the form at reception and they told us to we had to get it from the social hostess so we tracked her down and she said we needed to get the form from reception. She did eventually give us a form to fill in and said to hand it in at reception , we duly tried to hand it in but they said we had to give it to the social hostess. I was all for binning the form and forgetting about it by this stage however my DH has a stubborn streak at times and was determined to hand it in . So we tracked down the social hostess who tried to get us to hand it in at reception and after confirming reception would hand it on to her she reluctantly agreed to take it. Needless to say we didn't receive any return customer recognition and strangely the social hostess never appeared to recognise us when our paths crossed.

We are on the Spirit in October so will be waiting to see if we will be recognised or not.

  4. I know that no one has been on Thomson Discovery but some people have been on her in her previous life. I am thinking of booking outside cabin but not sure whether it would be better to have deck 3 or 2. Deck 3 midship is under bars etc so I am worried it might be noisy however deck 2 might be noisy with engine stuff.

Any views would be most appreciated or suggestions about any other more resonably priced cabin . My daughter had inside on Majesty which was actually an outside with no view so on higher deck but priced as inside. Can't see any gems like this on Discovery however you might know.

  5. The winner was "Indian Summer"

This is a long gin and elderflower refresher and won the votes in the shortlisting. After the taste test, Thomson and moreover the mixologist plus Apollo refined this creation with a slosh of apple schnapps and by swapping the lemon for lime that just took the edge off a heavy gin base.

You will be able to get this on the Dream this summer !!

Hi Huddersfieldtourist, thank you for the update. Was it announced on Thomson's website as I must have missed it.

  6. Just wondered if anyone can tell me how many formal evenings there will be on Transatlantic Cruise (10 April). Have done 2 weeks B2B before, we have always had two. Advice much appreciated. :o

When we did the TA on Dream there were two formal evenings. Although for some reason the first of the two felt more formal. I think the first formal night was the Captain's "do" which might explain why. Having said that there were lots of people who took the opportunity to dress up for the occasion on both evenings. I'm doing the TA on the 12th April and I will be packing two evening dresses (as well as what my DOH describes as half my wardrobe ) so I can join in with all the fun.

  7. the bar tenders will fix cocktails not on the menu if you ask  (if they have the ingredients)

I was on the Celebration a couple of weeks ago. I asked for a sidecar but as I was on AI the waitress said they would have to charge me for it. When I am next on the Dream I have AI so happy to stick with the non charged drinks, I am hoping it will be cocktail of the day so I can have one or two :D

  8. Just seen your post about the wash and fold service on Celebration which is what I have been trying to find out about!

Could you tell me more about it please - cost involved, is it offered at the end of the cruise and is it a reliable service etc.

It will be a god send for me as I go back to work after my cruise so if that part of the laundry is done my life will be much easier !!

We were on a one week cruise and I think it was day 4 or 5 when we had a plastic laundry bag and info about the wash and fold service left in our cabin. I think it was just under £14 and a reasonable size although as there are self service washing machines and tumble dryers I am not sure how many people would have taken up the offer as it is very easy to do your own laundry.

  9. As requested I am reporting on the outcome of the washing up liquid versus furniture polish glue removal experiment. Both of my cases had a security tag on the shoulder so 4 in all to remove. I picked off the tags first and was left with the glue and I tried washing up liquid on one case and furniture polish on the other.*

I left the washing up liquid on for a few minutes then wiped it off and although it got rid of the stickiness it didn't shift the lump of glue.

I sprayed on a fairly generous covering of furniture polish, left it a few minutes and when I wiped it of the glue just came off with it.*

My cases are polycarbonate and I can fully recommend the furniture polish method on this type of case. No idea if this would work for other types of suit case*

I have posted the results of this as a separate thread but also posting here so that the question and answer are in the same place.

  10. Thanks for replying with your test results.

The furniture polish has almost always worked for me which is why I recommended you give it a try. Pleased it worked for you too.

It also works on the sticky labels often stuck onto UK passports without damaging the cover.

Maybe you could copy and paste this thread onto the original thread as a reply. That way the Q and A will be together on the same thread.

Good idea will copy and paste now.
