  1. Just $62.50 (£51) pppd for a balcony - wow never seen prices that low!

If you are addressing the OP, he is from the UK. Different conditions apply to UK bookings than the US. Once booked we would lose our deposit if we re-booked at a lower price and no adjustments given.

And I've never seen an offer for free gratuities here in the UK.

Pls be aware that this rate was for an inside cabin but was later upgraded to balcony. We see the $62.50 pppd rate regularly like the 8-night crossings for $499 that often come with another $50 on-board credit. I have met people who only paid $450 for a transatlantic crossing.

  2. We sometimes book early and use a direct Cunard agent. When specials or a sale comes up, we can re-book as long as the part of the fare we paid is not higher than the new fare. If that happens, we can get on-board credit or upgrades. Just call your agent.

That said, when we book late we get even better deals, with the lowest fares -and- significant on-board credit as well as upgrades.

Let me give an example: our next voyage is Jan 6 on the QE from Southampton to Ft Lauderdale and we pay $62.50 per person per day for a Balcony BB cabin with $50 on-board credit. This was originally booked at that price for an inside cabin around October 24 without the on-board credit. Another perk we sometimes get is free gratuities. Just call and ask whenever a special or sale comes up.

  3. We always book direct with a Cunard booking agent. When we hear of specials with lower prices we always ask for either re-booking or, if last installment has been paid like in this case, ask for extra's like upgrade, on-board credit etc. This time we were upgraded to a balcony (sheltered mid ship deck 5) like the OP without loosing any extras we already had like free on-board credit etc.

We are traveling with others so dates are fixed because when possible we just wait for the best deals and don't care about the exact sail date :)

  4. Beautiful Cartagena de Indias! After the drive-around tour, just grab a taxi and go to Fuerte San Felipe for a guided tour. Ask for Duran the tour guide but most are good. You find them around the statue of San Blas, the "half man" in front of the fort.

Another option is to ask if any tours of La Popa, the monestary on the top overlooking the city, are available. La Popa means "the stern" as in stern of a ship because it is shaped like that.

  5. we had a sewer smell on QV on Rome to Rome this year in the 40xx series rooms, in the passageway between two rooms in one area of the passage way only and across from some sort of sliding crew access door, I called engineering twice and was there when the tech came (by chance) he opened the sliding door and there was nothing there but access to a stairwell. the smell was only in the passageway, not in the rooms or in that stairwell so not a problem but to me definitely a sewer type smell. it was there at least 1/2 the time when you walked by.

That can happen with a sewer blockage somewhere but the problem I mentionis coming from large vents just above the deck that come from the sewer treatment plant. When the wind is right it engulfs the pax walking the deck.
