Ah, why is that? I have noticed the boards here for Disney and on the disboards are not that active at all. Is it because a lot of people cruising with Disney are first time cruisers? There isn't even a roll call setup for our upcoming Dream cruise, which was surprising to me.

I suppose getting a note from the urgent care saying whatever is going on isn't contagious couldn't hurt. The concerns about letting someone sick on a cruise ship revolve around having an illness that is contagious and can spread to everyone else quickly on a ship or having something that cannot be effectively treated should it worsen on a cruise ship. A lot of people have allergies and colds while on vacation. But if it's possible it is something that would require treatment, I would get that started now. We went on a cruise with my parents a few years ago and my father ended up in sick bay with pneumonia. Not only was the cost of the medical care $1100, he was miserable for several days of the cruise.

What exactly was he mad about? People were looking at the pictures and interacting with him.

The break even point between DCL transfers and, say, renting a car, is typically around 4 people. For 3 people doing DCL transfers it's $117. And, I'm not a great fan of having to drive in unfamiliar territory. I prefer someone else to do the driving. Of course it depends on what time of day the OP would be arriving at MCO, whether driving to the port is a good idea.
Plus, if you book the Hyatt MCO through DCL, it's generally cheaper (we got it for around $100).
How do you book the hotel through DCL? We are booked through a TA so I don't know that we would even be able to do this. And as far as the rest goes, to each their own. I don't really want to sit or stand around for a bus to get filled up before leaving the airport. And theres really only one road that goes to the Port, so it's not a hard drive.

We had this same discussion for our October 3 night dream cruise. We are flying in the evening before. My brother wanted to stay at the Hyatt and take Dcl transportation while our family wanted to do a one way rental and drive to a hotel closer to the port to stay the night, then 1 person can drop the rest of the group at the port and return the car. There will be 8 of us. Personally, I felt the cost for the Hyatt and the cost of the DCL transpiration was too much. I reserved a 12 passenger van from Mco dropping off at the port for $130. DCL transfer would have been $312. I think the Hyatt was running $350 while the hotel near the port that has free breakfast is $125. So, for us, it just made more sense to rent the car and stay at the port.

I do agree with you that you should get the 2 days refunded by NCL but I have never been in this situation. However, I am wondering why you ultimately decided to not go on the cruise and where you were flying from?
-
We have been on all 3 with our son who is 10 now and started cruising as a toddler. Personally, we like NCL and Carnival. While we did like the Allure, we think RCL is overpriced for what you get. We are looking at doing the 8 day Horizon S. Caribbean the beginning of June. We have been on new and old ships and have never had a bad cruise. So, I think it comes down to expense, must haves and itinerary.

Good to know. Is that with any rental company when you book through C or only certain companies? The one way drop off fee is usually crazy!
They deal with 4 or so and they all allow that. They also allow 2 2nd driver for free on all their rentals.
-
If you belong to the big box store that starts with a C you can book a one way rental with no additional cost. Their rates are usually the lowest also. I use them all of the time for one way rentals.
-
Personally, I would book the balcony but you really have to decide what your must haves are. Can you deal with 4 people in a balcony or do you need the 2nd bathroom and some separation? It's possible you could bid on a suite if there's one available but obviously not guaranteed. If you have 2 cabins you wouldn't want to try and bid for an upgrade because I don't think location is guaranteed. I don't even know how that would work if the kids were in their own cabin. Tough decision.

Thank you all so much!! This has definitely eased my mind about Bermuda for first time cruisers. All the photos and videos look so gorgeous - I cant wait to go!

We went to Bermuda on the Escape with my parents a coupe of years ago and it was great! Beautiful beaches, get on and off the boat at your leisure, lots of activities to do. I think everyone will love it!

Would you mind confirming what others have mentioned, that the ship charges you immediately, the insurance reimburses you later. They don't "work with the insurance company".
That was our experience. They gave us sufficient paperwork to file the claim at the time, so don't lose that!
That is correct. They add the amount charged at the clinic to your folio. So, we always bring a credit card that has a high limit on it in case of emergencies. We paid with a credit card then had to wait for reimbursement after all of the paperwork was filed after we got back. I believe my father submitted the bill to medicare and his supplemental. It was denied by both. We sent those letters to the NCL insurance provider and they mailed a check for the full amount to him. Normally I don't buy NCL insurance because it is more expensive than other travel insurance policies but because their cruise was comped, we just added it at the time of purchase. I asked at guest services whether there was a way to take care of the bill on the ship through the insurance but since the insurance is secondary, this was not possible.
-
I purchased NCL insurance for my parents when they booked a casino comped cruise. My dad got sick and I had to take him to the ships doctor. The total charge was around $1100 and he was diagnosed with bronchitis and given antibiotics. He filed the insurance paperwork when we arrived home and received a check for the total amount. Medicare refused the claim because he was more than 150 miles (or whatever their criteria is) outside of the US.

Was it supposed to be before or after your cruise? I don’t know anything about them cancelling but we went to Alaska last year and did our own land tour. I know it’s more work but you can plan extra time before or after your cruise and do the things your group wants to do.

I booked a cruise July 2 for a balcony on a cruise next April. Website would only allow the use of one cert:rolleyes:
P.S. I just looked at the website, it says "Double Up" now ends July 31.
I had the same issue when trying to book the Epic online for December. But I was able to apply each certificate separately and use both for the deposit. Maybe you should call and ask about it. Originally, my reservation looked like it didn't go through and I received a hold email but then when I logged into my account to check before I called, the cruise was showing as booked with the $500 deposit credited.

Sigh--OP, I am sorry you do not like the opinions of mot of us, but acusing all of us who do not agree with you that staff did anything wrong of not reading your entire post, or follow up posts or of lacking reading comprehension is just rude and defensive as heck.
I read it all. Your husband messed up. Not in some huge big way that I judge--in a way that I can see a caring parent doing as a one off. our son handled it well, eventually found the cabin and got ahold of you in spite of you apparently having not prepared him with an advance plan of what to do if he were lost. Go him! Nothing terrible happened. Learn from it and move on.
RCI staff spoke with a child who did not give any indication tht he was lost (or abandoned) or in need of help, so they let him go on his way instead of overstepping and taking control over his whereabouts.
I do not judge your husband at all harshly---mistakes happen. I do judge you (ok and your husband if he is in agreement with you) for trying to place blame for the situation on someone else so you'll feel better about it happening at all.

ONCE AGAIN: When did I blame RCL for ANYTHING????????????????????????????????
-
For me this all boils down to:
Don't demand from others what you are unwilling or unable to do for yourself.
Ramona
When exactly was I demanding anything? I was asking people's opinions and don't have a problem with their responses unless they involve attacks or ridiculous assumptions. I find it hilarious that someone actually took the time to look up the POLICY QUESTION I asked in another thread about the kids club then accused me of being an awful parent for asking about leaving my child on the ship or accusing me of complaining. There was no complaint in either of these threads. Just asking if people thought this was normal. Which most think it is, so no problem. Many of you are the ones making incorrect assumptions and statements. Not me.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Don't most people use the kids club as entertainment/babysitting while they do other things on or off the ship like go to dinner, go to shows, etc.???
-
Yes! Is your husband still in the dog house?
No. I know he lacks attention at times. Typical man.
And yes I was defensive when people accused me of being a bad parent for simply going to the casino or saying that I am a horrible parent for asking about leaving my son on the ship. Those comments wouldn't make you defensive? Seriously?
-
OPs defensiveness just reaffirms the fact that she came here seeking only confirmation of her feelings.
Yes, the AO employee could have done better. Yes, dad could have done better. OP doesn't really care.
Did you actually read any of my follow up posts?
-
Well the OP is my kind of woman. If I did that with my kids my wife would've killed me. She wouldn't have bought by BS story about blaming RCCL and known right away that I was being impatient and figuring if I just walked off someone would take care of the kids. Her husband has it made in the shade for sure.
When did I blame RCL for my husband making a mistake and walking away? I kind of find this thread entertaining now. To see the varying degrees of reading comprehension and understanding from adults. Some clearly never read most of my post. I was simply asking if people thought RCL handled it properly. I don't think it was too much for them to ask him if he knew where we were. That's what I do if I encounter a lost or accidentally abandoned child (seeing as most parents don't intentionally abandon their children). Apparently, we do and are well known on these threads for leaving our children unattended while going to the casino and running around foreign countries. Really eye opening. I have learned so much about myself and my family from complete strangers. Now, if someone can give me the winning lottery numbers I could really abandon my child by hiring a super hot Manny to take care of him while I jetset around the world!!!! If you need my email to send them privately, let me know. Or better yet, I am willing to meet in person. I really don't want to share that kind of information with the world because then I would get less money for myself.
Anyways, now that we have that covered. I said before that we probably won't sail RCL again because we find other cruise lines better for a variety of reasons. It's just our preference and is not due to this one experience.
Also, we made sure the first day to tell our son how to get back to the cabin and he did what he was instructed to do. And I don't remember if that was a port day or not that he had lunch but they asked when I checked him in and he said yes. The only time we got off the ship was in Labadee and we were all together. Anyone else have any questions you would like me to address?
-
you forgot her complaint that one parent had to stay aboard NCL because her child has 'medical issues' which, BTW was never even vaguely explained. she wanted to know if Royal had the same requirement.
How exactly was that a "complaint"? I simply asked a policy question out of curiosity. Now, its a complaint? Very interesting.
-
 drops microphone
Are you serious right now? I was comfortable leaving my child on the ship in the care of the kids club. Not wandering around the ship by himself. Some of the people on this thread have struck an all time low. Wow.
-
Pretty good, the OP starts (at least) two threads on "kids clubs" and then gets offended when people start giving advise and pointing fingers back to them....
"I am sorry that you feel the need to tell me how to take care of my child" from the OP's other thread....
Because that thread was simply asking if we could go off the ship. Not asking your advice on whether my child should go to the kids club or not.

I completely agree with you and this is really the safest option. I had covid in March, recovered and still have antibodies as well. I have donated convalescent COVID-19 plasma many times.
