  1. Thanks, I have been looking for a cheap cruise and boy did I find one,  Just booked Interior Guarantee 8 nights 10 February for $490 pp.  Thought it was a misprint but have confirmation and paid.  Live in Brisbane so have the cost of getting to Sydney also have never had an interior but for that price, will find out. Booked with cruising out of oz, all other sites were $735  and higher.  I have checked Carnival and booking is there. Bonus $50 credit plus I will get $100 military credit. Interior cabin out of Sydney here we come.

  2. Part of an email from Princess earlier today:

Please do not arrive at the pier prior to 3:00 PM as the terminal will be closed for sanitation and there will be no seating or services available. Guests who arrive at the pier early may drop off their luggage and enjoy the surrounding area. All guests must be checked in by 7:00 PM.

Once aboard, the dining rooms will have open seating for dinner from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. SHARE by Curtis Stone will be serving from 5.30 to 10:00 PM. The casual dining areas on Deck 14 — Horizon Court, Amuleto Café, and the Terrace Grill — will be open until 11:00 PM. Your safety muster drill will take place at 7:00 PM.

We will reach out to you should there be any additional changes to communicate. Please be sure you have your mobile phone number listed in your Cruise Personalizer.

  3. Well maybe it is the jetty after all.

I wonder how long that will take, I would have thought it would have been done over the winter season.

Well RCI have cancelled Lifou in cruises out of Sydney up to April. I rang TA and they confirmed but don't know what is happening with cruises out of Brisbane. Will let me know, wihich definitely means I will have to make another call, still waiting on the callback about cabin, shouldn't complain as it was a great price and sails out of Brisbane so no airfares.

  4. Lots of posts on facebook cruise pages about RCI not going to Lifou, some cruises have replaced it with Mare or Noumea others are just having an extra sea day.

One group of 28 includes a family with a baby under 12 months and have been told that family will be refunded because of the rule of not allowing babies under 12 months to be at sea for more than 2 days, and they leave in 9 weeks, they are not happy.

We are due to sail on 5 December from Brisbane on Legend and our cruise control is still showing Lifou. Will ring tomorrow to find out if we are affected.

A TA posted that he received an email telling him to notifiy all his clients they would no longer be going to Lifou, he wasn't given any explanation.

  5. Just checked my cruise control and Deluxe is $69.05 per day same price as Premium was 20% off, bet those who paid $76.90 (20% off) for Ultimate aren't too happy. Got those old prices off my cruise control when I read they were changing 2 days ago. The non alcoholic one is a killer gone from approx $29 to $43 per day!!! I think they want people to drink alcohol!!!!!

  6. Hi Shrekaus - I think the above will answer your question.

At the time (in 2008) I was aware that one day I would need to have a pacemaker fitted but it came as a bit of a shock when I started to have turns just after getting off the ship in Vancouver and it got worse by the time we got to New York. The hospital there also wanted to replace the aorta valve as well but I told them to just do what they had to do so I could get home. Hate to think what that would have cost and I could not fly for three months after.

Sorry must be me but still not clear, not that I guess it makes much difference, so your got your pacemaker in New York?

  7. Thanks for that will make enquirers. I think my problem is that I had a claim for $100,000 USD for the pacemaker so no one wants to take the chance I will have another claim.

Either way - I keep on cruising but always have a check up a couple of weeks out and would not go if advised not to do so.

Excuse me asking but did you have to have the pacemaker inserted whilst on a trip so you had to claim on insurance? Asking because I have a pacemaker ( for 6 years) and usually only have to pay around $100 extra to be covered.

  8. We are traveling on the Pacific Dawn with 3 children just have a few questions

Is the gatsby night the formal night, and do the men were suits

    Many Thanks:)

Not necessary, a lot of shirt and braces, a lot of hats too. Great dress up night. They sell the braces and hats cheap (yes believe it or not) on the ship. Also boas, pearl strings etc. We bought ours with us.

  9. Hi

We were on the Sun Princess in April, after dry dock, and while there were a few issues it is a lovely ship and the staff are beyond great. Yes it is a smaller ship than the Diamond, and Ruby, which we have done too, it has new carpet and furnishing in a lot of the venue spots, which have given it a fresh new look. The new restaurants, Share and the seafood, were empty most of the time, they were giving you reduced prices to try them, but why would you when the MDR is fantastic. There were not a lot of tables for 2 in the MDR, we don't mind sharing to meet others, but the lack of tables for 2 was quite a concern for a lot of people.

Our bed was lovely and new linen great.

A lot of excuses for the issues post dry dock were that they were having trouble restarting after the 2 week dry dock, which I find hard to believe, this ship seems to have the same issues on each cruise. It didn't stop us having a great time.

Toilets and aircon are often consistent issues with most cruises, we have been lucky not to have had them.

The Sun, Sea and Dawn are the same layout, I believe.

Those that had taken the beverage package, found that initially they got good value, but as the days went on they struggled to drink enough to meet the cost. It is quite costly when you work out the overall trip drinks cost. I believe both people in the cabin have to take it out, not just one person.

    Hope that helps.

    Pat

I see you are going on the PNG cruise in a few weeks. We are looking at going on the one departing Jan 22nd. We have been on the Sea Princess and wonder what the differences are on the Sun? I know it now has the International Cafe - what did this replace and do you have to pay or is it included? Does it have the Explorer Bar and Wheelhouse? Is there still happy hour BOGOF? Also if I remember OJ and V8 were free on SP, sorry for all the questions but you seem to know answers :) Thanks

Hi it's me again, this time I could see the photos of Whistler then they disappeared for the rest of this blog could you please put in the link to your other photo page, it is not the same as seeing them in the text but better than not seeing them :) I guess I will have the same problem with your other blogs. I do so enjoy your writings, but this one in particular as we want to do Hawaii to Sydney next year for our 10th anniversary. Thank you so much.

  13. I didn't even look there because my usual TA is always (or was) cheaper.

Of course the price was $100 less before their current $100 OBC + $100 balcony upgrade sale.

The email I got from Princess offered double onboard credit for past cruisers if that helps, said it would be applied on booking.

I was looking at a cruise which combined with military OBC would have givedn 900 OBC - sorry can't remember which one now as I am just looking.

  14. Thank you so much for your blog, it has kept me up 'til the early hours following your adventures ( it is now 2.15am here in Brisbane). I have to say that my legs ache from all your walking :).

Now that the Grand Voyage has ended I noticed that Creme Brulee is no longer offered on the dinner menu!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your cruise, I would love to be disembarking in San Diego with you.

Thank you again for your fantastic blog.

  15. Research KL on Trip Advisor. Then when you are there I would suggest Hop on Hop off bus, stop at the places you have found during your research. Then Shop. Try and fit in a foot massage, you will come out walking on air. Love KL.

I would second this suggestion, research on TA. Someone has suggested Petrona Towers, yes great, but tickets are sold only on the day and sell out by about 8am, so if they are really on your list I think you would have to do a ship's tour to be sure of going up.

China Town, Little India, shopping malls ( Times Square is a pretty good one and incorporates a huge roller coaster). Lots to see and do in KL, depends on your interests. Enjoy.
