  1. Thanks for the suggestions. When I called Carnival this morning the rep was less that helpful. I called again and got put on the waiting list. The new rep says he is going to keep an eye out for me. I am hoping that if someone has to cancel and I end up on the ship it’s because they’ve had something fabulous come up and not because of an emergency. It’s possible that I could get to the port just in case and just vacation there if I don’t make it on. It would be sad to watch the ship sail away without me.

  2. Hi All! I am an experienced cruiser on other cruise lines but I’ve never sailed with Carnival before. I’m looking to book a cruise for May of this year that currently has no availability even after calling Carnival. Does anyone know of another way to find availability? Do travel agents have blocks of cabins still in their inventory this close to sailing? I am hoping to sail with friends but I think they must have booked the last two cabins on the ship! Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  3. OP: You may want to reconsider "I do not fly" since it severely limits your window on the world.

I wish it was that easy. There are a few mitigating factors as to why I don't fly. Fear that is fed by a physical medical condition is just one of the reasons. I know that it limits where we can travel and that is why I would love to find a cruise that will take us to new places that we can't travel to by car. On the other hand I love driving and part of the fun of a vacation is the journey to our destination.

  4. Thank you all for the suggestions! I will be weighing my options. We are already booked on the DCL fantasy in June and I might just tack on the next sailing for a back to back even though we did the second itinerary last year. We could go even longer than 14 days so a transatlantic with some time in Europe might work too.

  5. I am looking for suggestions for a cruise for next summer. I am hoping to find something that is 14+ days that sails from a US port on the east coast. It will be me and my 10 year old DD. I do not fly so we primarily use the cruise ship as transportation to ports that we can't access via car but we like to have fun activities on board for sea days. I live in Chicago and I am willing to do a 2 day drive to the embarkation port. Money is no object for this cruise and ideally we would find something that goes to South America. I have looked at the mainstream cruise lines but haven't found anything that meets my criteria. Does anyone have any suggestions of other cruise lines to try?

  6. I am taking my mom and DD on a spring break cruise in April. It's our first time sailing with NCL. We have some food issues that can be difficult. I have food allergies, my mom is very picky and my DD doesn't eat kid food. I've sailed with DCL before and was very happy with the selections available to all of us. My mom could get unseasoned food, my DD could order off the adult menu and they were very cautious with my food allergies. Is NCL as accommodating as DCL in these regards? I am not worried about my allergens as I monitor my food well and cross contamination doesn't seem to bother me. I am more worried about my mom. She won't eat anything with garlic or basically any seasoning other than salt and pepper. Will she be able to get unseasoned food? Can my DD order off the adult menu even though she is 10?

    Thanks!
