  1. Thanks for this post... I'd imagine the wine bar but do the specialty restaurants also have good wine priced just below 15?

I think the by the glass wine list was the same in all dining rooms and specialty restaurants..there were also some wines only available in The Cellars Wine bar...you can walk right up to the Cellars wine bar, sit at a table and scroll the Ipad wine list..Select anything under $15 and bring it with you to your dinner or what not...

In the included dining rooms the wine list featured I believe 10 wines by the glass available...and probably another 10+ that were more than $15 a glass...and then a huge list of bottles.

You get a discount if you buy a bottle but the 10+ included wines feature 1 from each style...Ruffino Lumina Pino Griggio (best white available), A Pinot Noir i think Estancia, Monterey County, Colores Del Sol Malbec (my fav), SANGIOVESE Castello di Gabbiano Chianti (Decent, weaker than the malbec), Cabernet Sauvignon Chateau St. Jean (Ok but not my fav)...There were also some at the Cellars bar I can't remember...I think a Spanish Garnacha that was pretty good...I mostly go for reds for drinking unless I am having a white specific meal...

Just have fun and explore the available wines...it's included so even if you take 2 sips and hate it...who cares! At the dinners all the wines are brought out to you and poured from the perfect glass size mini carafes...so a glass is a glass every time. You can perfectly pace yourself!

And you can always blame the ships rocking...

  2. I kind of have to agree with the previous assessment...We just finished a cruise on the NCL escape and consensus from our group of 20+ was that the Allure was an overall better experience.

The Escape was nice...and I really didn't have any complaints...but the Allure was a more "open" ship. The pool decks had more space in general...the boardwalk and shops felt like a whole new world...

On the Escape we could really feel the boat rocking...nearly every day. It wasn't a lot, but just a constant back and forth sway. The Escape had better night life I would say...and with an included drink package it's a definite plus...we had balcony staterooms on both and I really couldn't tell the difference between the two ships once in the room..I think maybe we had a little more wiggle room on the Escape but the room is just for sleeping and showering... we had room 7714 on Allure and 14718 on Escape.

Weird things about the Escape...The running track goes right through main busy areas...On the Allure it's on it's own deck. The casino is dead center on the Escape and is very smokey. The water/amphitheater on Allure was very impressive...

If you've never done Escape and want to give it a try I would say give it a shot. All things considered they were very comparable ships...But if you like to sit in the sun on sea days it's a bit of a competition on the Escape to get a seat...which I suppose is the same on all ships...

The Escape has a GREAT kids water park...with multiple water slides. The ropes course is great too...but if you have no kids none of this will interest you...

I'm easy to please and happy either way..I would probably say that only you can decide if you will like it or not...give it a shot :)

  3. No, it is on the retail value. Clearly stated on the promo T&C.

Yeah, I was on the Escape last week...and I would order the most expensive drinks I could..so an Old Fashioned with Woodford Reserve was I think $14.50. They take your card and ring it up and then also ring up 18% so that 1 drink would out of pocket be $17.11 out of pocket...

I would have 2 glasses of wine with dinner and they were $10 or $11.80 with gratuity...so you're at $23.60 per dinner x 7 = $165.20 for wine with dinner...

I am not a big drinker...I haven't had a drink since the cruise...but it was a good deal even for me.

  4. Thanks. Where is it located?

It's on Deck 7 same level as O'sheehan's but other side of the opening that looks down on the lower level. It's next to some other arcade games - skiball, shoot the basketballs etc...they give out tickets that you can redeem in prize machines there and in the arcade on deck 17 aft...where there are more games that award tickets...and eat your on board credit!

  5. Is the bowling on the Escape with the miniature bowling balls or regular bowling?

Ok...it's a sort of hybrid bowling lane...it's shorter than a regular lane and has a candlepinish size ball almost duckpin pins...the pins are held in place with white ropes that dangle them down from the upper part of the pin setter so when you knock the pins over they fall down and the ropes are there...It then lifts all the pins by the ropes to reset and lowers only the pins that were left standing...

So there is no dead wood like 10 pin bowling...

There are only 2 lanes and was something like $5 for a string....

If you are a legit bowler it will not offer you much entertainment but if you are just looking to have some fun, especially kids, they will love it.

  6. I would NEVER choose the Wifi as a perk...we had 2 people who paid the $200+ for the unlimited and it took easily over 5 min sometimes to load a page...The Beverage package was great as just 2 glasses of wine with dinner is $140...They had Ruffino Pino Griggio as one of the white options and that's a decent enough white and the Colores del Sol malbec was probably the best Red available with the package. There were wines available at the tasting bar that are not on the general menus but you could go there and take a glass or 2 with you...Stack onto that a trip or two to the brew house and the drinks on deck during the day and you've got yourself a nice deal..

The great thing about the specialty dining promo is you are free to order whatever you want for no additional cost at the specialty restaurants...we had someone get the 35oz porterhouse with a lobster at Cagneys...Yes, that's a 2+ Lb steak...and no they didn't finish it because it's supposed to be for 2!

  7. I was on the escape last week and don't specifically recall seeing any water bottles for sale but you could buy a bottle of water (I think it was aquafina) and reuse it or just bring your own bottle.

I bring my own bottle for the gym/excursions/beach days etc.

You can fill your bottle in your stateroom from the sink. There was good clearance to fill a 24oz bottle no problem because the sings are oval and wide. The water tasted fine from the sink. No noticeable odd flavors. The only issue was temperature. Sometimes when water demand is high the tap water is warmish. You can fill your bottle before bed and put it in the room fridge (have it emptied or make room by moving around the minibar drinks).

If you are filling your own bottle in the general food service areas just be sure and use a clean cup to transfer water to your bottle and don't just fill your bottle directly. They have signs indicating "Please do not fill water bottles, use a fresh cup" and people would still got and try and fill bottles and the workers would politely correct them.

  8. Will NCL allow teens to be booked across the hall in an inside cabin (15, 17)?

    Thanks for any info.

Well we just cruised last week and there were lots of attached family cabins for dual bookings (with balcony) on deck 9. All the parents looking to book kids with their 2nd room were on deck 9.

They booked 1 adult and kid(s) in 1 room and the other adult with kids in the other room and then the adults just stayed in 1 room and the kids in the other...
