  1. I'm looking forward to sailing on Millennium again on 10/19.  This is my view of the port, taken on 02-02-21 during a short stop for resupply last winter.

The "old" terminal is hidden by the ship.  The Broadway pier is visible just behind it, and the USS Midway behind that.  As Jim says, everything is close.  Before I moved to San Diego I would fly in, take the free shuttle to the Holiday Inn (now the Wyndham), and wake up the next morning to see the ship (usually Celebrity Century back then) docked directly across the street.  Then just a short walk to check in.

Jim, I'm in Aqua class as well, so I look forward to seeing you in Blu (unless you get your upgrade).

Thank you and welcome to the Daily.  Based on your signature, possibly also welcome to the HAL forum.  Probably not an awful lot of us around who have sailed on the Leeward.

I haven't looked at my signature for many years, and just realized it's about 67 cruises behind.  I do have one HAL cruise, Mexico at the end of 2019, on Eurodam. (I'll have to do a signature update soon)

  3. Millennium and Eclipse each docked briefly on Friday, 5/22 in San Diego.  Apparently to disembark crew members -- local chartered buses were then seen at San Diego airport driving directly to 3 iAero (formerly Swift Air) chartered 737-800s.  The last of these departed at 11:30 pm PDT for MIA, with an eventual destination of Bridgetown, Barbados, where one has already landed and the other two are in flight, due to arrive soon, according to FlightAware.

Once in Barbados, I believe the crew members will be transferred to other ships (RCI?) for voyages home.

Given ongoing global public health circumstances, Celebrity Cruises has decided to extend the suspension of most sailings through July 31, 2020. We are working with our guests and travel partners to address this disruption to their vacations, and we are genuinely sorry for their inconvenience. We expect to return to service on August 1.

    Impacted Itineraries

For impacted sailings, compensation of 125% Future Cruise Credit (FCC) will be processed automatically. Future Cruise Credit is good through December 31st, 2021. If you prefer to forfeit the higher value of the 125% Future Cruise Credit for all of the guests in your reservation and instead accept a 100% refund, you may submit your request here any time up until the expiration date of your FCC.

If you pre-booked any shore excursions, beverage, internet, specialty dining or other onboard packages, through Celebrity Cruises, you will have the option of receiving 125% Onboard Credit (OBC) to be used on your next sailing, or you may choose a 100% refund.  In order to select the 125% Onboard Credit please click here to submit your request.  If we have not received your choice of compensation for these pre-booked items by April 8th, you will automatically receive a full refund to your original method of payment.  Guests with independent shore excursion arrangements should contact their tour operators as soon as possible.

  5. See this link for an article in today's San Diego Union-Tribune.  I didn't know there were some South American passengers still aboard Eclipse.

Cruises have stopped, but ships with thousands of crew members still in San Diego waiting to return home

  6. Westerdam docked this morning in San Diego next to Celebrity Eclipse, which has been here since the end of March.

Although it's great to have a wonderful view of the harbor, it's disappointing not to be sailing on any of the ships that have been rotating through or sharing the dock space for the last month or so:  Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Millennium, Disney Wonder, Westerdam, Seven Seas Splendor.
