Yesterday leaving Ketchikan we viewed from deck 16 and also promenade 7 when it got colder bc we could go inside and outside. We saw lots of whales last night going into a small strait up to Juneau.

We have a box of Kleenex in the room and I moved it into the bathroom. Sewage smell is mostly in the hallways. I was worried about our rooms being above and down from the casino but not smoke smell or noise.

Weather has been amazing! If anyone can tell me how to upload pics I will do that! We had 79 degrees and sun in Ketchikan and probably 75 today in Juneau with sun. Formal night was Sunday and will be Thursday.

I did the lumberjack show in Ketchikan and my family did a sea plane. Both got good reviews although my brother said for the price of $250 each for the plane it was $$$$$. Today was whale watching with Mendenhall Glacier. It was well worth the money. We saw 4 whales and a bunch of sea lions and bald eagles. We did a private tour (not sure if I can say the name) and it was the 5 of us in my family and one other couple. It was worth the $$$$ to get a private one as we saw other bigger ships with easily 100 ppl on them. Tomorrow at Skagway we are renting two keeps to drive the Klondike and doing the sled dog with chicken bbq lunch (independent from the ship excursions.)

We have loved trivia and saw the broadway show. Played bingo once and didn’t win. Bar drinks have been good. Our only sorta negative is the activities start much earlier than on DCL in the evenings. We wanted to go to a game show last night Majoriy Rules and we were at dinner for almost 2 hours so we missed it as I said the service seems to be a little slower at night. We have been eating in the Donatello room bc at 7:30 we can get in for anytime and have not had ANY issue. The speciality restaurants are both booked the entire cruise. We forgot to book when we boarded and didn’t want to pay upfront so that’s a bummer too. They said we could try and walk in but the chances are slim so book early if you want one of those!! Tonight is 70s night apparently with trivia and some atrium show. The comedian is a man from The Beach Boys. They also have a Yes or No game show. We have had early mornings and semi late nights. I don’t even think we will make it to the dining room tonight bc we ate lunch off the ship late at 3pm. We went to the Hanger and it was very good!!

Hello all! We are currently on Golden Princess in Juneau today! As for the negative reports in the last few months...there is definite water coming from the ceilings in various spots and the sewage odor on deck 7 prominade but only near the forward of the ship. We had upgraded to obstructed window rooms and we basically have a full view in 2 of the 3 rooms. Buffet breakfast has been great. Dinner is a little slow off and on but I was nice to relax.

If anyone has questions let me know! The coast guard is doing a full inspection today! Having a great time so far! Minimal rocking of the ship for those worried about motion sickness!

Thank you! Being that we will be on for 7 nights, we won't be in a huge rush and would like a little extra time to explore the city if possible although with hotel check-out at 11, we might have to get creative with our bags:')

I'm traveling to Vancouver for the 7 night NB Golden Princess cruise.

Besides the obvious like passport, coat, rain gear, mini pharmacy of medication/first aid, and binoculars...what are some other items that you wish you had brought or forgot on your trip?????

Not issues I experienced. Again, the ship was in very good condition. Are there some signs of wear? Yes. But not anything to be in any way concerned about. If the issues immediately following drydock were problematic, my experience is that they've resolved the vast majority. Enjoy.

There were also reports of sewage smell in the forward, AC/heat not working, and plumbing issues. Anything to report on those??

What sailing are you on? We’re on Golden too inside rooms but only got an offer for ocean view rooms. How much was your upgrade?

You can wear flip flops. We see them all the time on Princess ships. They really aren't paying attention to your feet. Heck, they aren't even paying much attention to your clothes. It has been pretty casual looking this cruise. There are people dressing up, but a bunch are not.

Can you please report on what the dress is like for formal night for men? My dad and brother planned to take button down shirts with slacks and a tie (no jacket). For ladies I read somewhere that you can’t wear flip flops? So my $30 Haviannas would not be permitted? Thank you!

We sail on Golden Princess NB Alaska in June and I was wondering if anyone can report if Golden offers this game show and what night is it typically on? I saw on another patter it was offered on Glacier Bay/Formal night with another ship. Is this typical with most NB sailings? We're going to book a reservation with ATD for that night so we can attend. I've always enjoyed watching the game show on DCL sailings!

Do you know if the match your mate game show is shown on most princess cruises? I'm doing NB on Golden in 20 days and would like to see it as I've always attended DCL's version of the show on my past cruises. Thank you!

Do you know if they offer the game show "Match your Mate" on each Princess cruise? I did say that was one thing I wanted to see and we will book a dinner reservation for ATD accordingly for that night....we will be doing NB on June 16th. As I could see from another princess ship doing NB, it was on Glacier Bay/Formal Night.

I had a chunk of nonrefundable onboard credit so I went through the ship for the excursion. I think the excursion was called dog sled and musher's camp. Sorry, I didn't pay attention to the company.

Different shipyards? Different game plans? I've read a lot about the Golden's maintenance not being "up to snuff" as she is scheduled to leave the line soon.

 

On the other hand' date=' we were on the Caribbean Princess in late 2015 and again in early 2018. The maintenance in 2018 was very thorough. In fact, we joked that the crew was doing "Disney level" cleaning--getting in little corners and such with tiny brushes and such. Overall, the Caribbean Princess was in much better shape in 2018. Our cabin "built ins" had several areas with "dings" and chips missing, but nothing that would interfere with our enjoyment.[/quote']

I've only been on DCL...those people clean night and day, it's crazy but it's also very clean and doesn't smell of any odor at all (at least on the Dream.) Also why they consistently year after year get the best scores!
