  1. So with the Verizon plan, are there any roaming charges while at sea or any other hidden fees if I keep my phone on? I sail on the 8th. Our oldest daughter is in the Navy and leaves for an 8 month deployment on the 10th. Was hoping to speak to her on the 9th before she sets sail on her "cruise". Her deployment wasn't announced and finalized until after we booked and she insisted we still go lol. It would be nice to chat for a few before communication becomes unpredictable at best for the next several months. Thanks for your help!

  2. We are cruising on the Dream on June 8th. We have myself, my husband and 18yo daughter in a balcony room. The room has a couch that will double as a bed for our daughter (room has no upper bunk). I've been in a balcony room before so I know what it looks like etc but it was only 2 of us that time. My question is will the steward remove the bedding from the couch during the day and remake it in the evening or will it just stay made as a bed the whole week? Thanks for your input!

  3. We just booked a cruise on Carnival Dream for July 8, 2017. We need 2 rooms for a total of 5 adults. We have looked at several hotels in New Orleans , Slidell, and Gretna. So far no luck, everything is booked up. We would be willing to stay up to an hour away from the port. Any suggestions for a city to find a hotel in or a hotel that may have rooms? Thanks in advance!

  4. What do you do for keeping insulin cold? I noticed it says don't use the fridge (which is where my son stores his)

Also, what do you do to keep it cool when you're off the ship? I wanted to use those sealed frozen ice blocks you can buy...... But how do you freeze them?

Walking in Pompeii in August, with Zero shade is going to get mighty hot!

As far as keeping it cold on the ship, medical can keep it in their fridge. However, once most insulin pens and vials are open and in use, they are fine at room temperature for 28 days. Vials and pens not opened yet should be stored in the fridge. Injections are less painful at room temperature too. As far as while out on excurtions, personally I bring a small cooler that holds a baby bottle and put a disposable ice pack in it like you use out of a first aid kit - the kind you squeeze to activate. Then I can just pitch it when I get back to the ship. Take a spare with you so if it starts to get warm, you can replace it. Also, they make a pouch called Frio. You can get them on Amazon and I've seen them at walgreens. It has a reusable pack in it that you soak in water and keeps your insulin pens, vials, or pump cool by evaporation. Once activated it can keep insulin cool for a few days, then you just soak the pack again. They are in the 20 to 30 dollar price range usually, but the same one will last for years I'm told. I know some diabetics that have them and they are very happy with them . You could also just put your insulin in a zip lock baggie in a small cooler in your room and just have the steward or room service bring you new ice daily. Hope I helped!

  5. If you need a sharps container for lancets, syringes etc, the room steward can get you one. If you fill it, they can get you more. I'm a type 1 on an insulin pump, so I fill a couple per cruise. I also put my test strips in the sharps box just so the steward doesn't accidentally have to deal with any that may miss the trash or fall out etc. Those pesky strips turn up in the funiest places lol.

  6. The tables are pretty close together with barely enough room to get in between when people are seated, so I don't think there would be room. Also, the ships I've been on have some booth seating, so that wouldn't work either. There are high chairs if the babies are old enough to sit up.

  7. As I recall, we had less than ten hangers in our closet to share between the 2 of us. You can ask for more hangers, they usually have some, but I usually pack a few with my dressy clothes that are in one of those hanging suit cases meant for formal wear suits etc.

  8. The cups at the lido buffet for lemonade, tea and water are little, so I bring a larger travel mug or sports bottle so I can get some and take it wherever I'm going. I use the travel mug for coffee in the morning, I tend to spill my coffee down my shirt until I'm fully awake lol, I can also take it back to my room or whatever.

  9. Sometimes with seasickness pills it helps to start them the night before or at least several hours before you cruise. That trick worked really well for my daughter. The key being that it's easier to prevent it than it is to stop it once it starts.

  10. Is bottomless bubbles like the cheers program in that everyone in the cabin has to purchase it? I want it because I don't really drink, but my husband doesn't want it and just wants to pay per drink ( he drinks beer occasionally). We definitely don't want cheers. He doesn't drink enough for it to pay off.

  11. I have been on 3 cruises to Mexico, but now I'm going on an Alaskan cruise for the first time. Anything in particular you brought or wish you had brought on your Alaskan cruises? We will be going in June of 2016, just putting together a list and getting things ready ahead of time. It will be myself, my husband and 2 teenage daughters. Thanks in advance!

  12. My name is KrabbyKelly and I am a cruise addict. I will be on a cruise in less than 2 weeks. I came to realize I had a problem when 2 nights ago a tornado was headed directly to my town, and was 5 minutes away. After sending my kids and pets to the basement, I spent the remaining minutes collecting our passports, cruise documents, birth certificates, and preprinted luggage tags. It was only then that I went to the basement, where I proceeded to read the travel insurance policy to keep myself occupied during the storm, making sure that if the storm leveled our house or something, we would be able to reschedule the cruise. Luckily, the tornado blew just north of us, and other than some trees and some minor structure damage, our community was safe. And so was my cruise.:D
