  1. Did you reserve your taxi to Honfleur ahead of time? If so, how did you do this.

    Thanks

    Cheryl

Hello. We just returned from Honfluer a week ago. Magnificent place. Reminded me of the Med. We reserved our taxi ahead of time by contacting the driver personally. He was prompt for both the pick-up at the ship and again in Honfluer.

  2. Just returned from our cruise last night. Had a lovely day with Gordon from WOW Scotland who was very accommodating and knowledgeable, especially about the Culloden Battlefield.:) We were with a smaller group and went places the big buses could not go. We did not do the boat trip either, but did visit Loch Ness. It was a wet and nasty day so glad we had not planned on doing the boat. I did, however, fall for the Nessie myth and bought one of the Nessie sculptures from Steve the Loch Nest Monster expert.;p Would not hesitate to recommend or use WOW again.

  3. Help. Trying to book the T11 bus on line and it is asking for a "valid 2 digit postal code". I've tried everything from my entire zip code to the first 2 digits to the last 2 digits. Anyone know what this means and where to find the code for Virginia. Totally frustrated.:loudcry:

    Thanks you

  4. We did the Kirkwall bus two years ago and it was one of the highlights of our British Isles cruise. It is not a Ho-ho in the traditional sense in that there is one bus with one schedule. It stops at various locations and you better make sure you get back on the bus to get to the next stop. The admission to Skara Brae was not included but we felt it was well worth it if you are at all into old rocks. There was also a stop at the Standing Stones of Steness. We saw a lot but it was also very relaxing to sit on the bus and watch the fields go by and we still had time to explore the village a bit.

Please explain exactly how this works. Do you have several minutes at each stop before the bus continues on it's route. Are there restroom facilities at the stops?

    Thanks for your response.

  5. No, we didn't know a boat ride was an option with other companies so we didn't miss it. We stopped at a beach on Loch Ness for about half an hour as I recall.

No ride for us either. Initially I was all excited about the ride on Loch Ness but my bestie was afraid Nessie would eat us:confused:. We are doing a ride down the Thames before starting our cruise and I reckon she figured we would have plenty of time on the water.

  6. Thank you Ashland. My main concern is that the flight would be on time [therefore driver would be waiting] but there might be a back-up/delay in getting through immigration/passport control. Just trying to figure out how much time to allow. I'm sure the drivers know pretty much how much time it will take and arrive accordingly.

    Thanks again.:)

  7. We will be using a car service for transfer from LHR to our hotel, how much time should I allow to clear immigration/passport control. I'd rather be waiting on the car as having them wait on me. Do you think 1 hr. 15 minutes would be enough or should I move it up to a minimum of 1 and a half hours. Flt. arrives at 8:45 a.m. from the US.

    Thanks for you help

  8. The £5 &£10 notes are all polymer now, any paper versions are no longer legal tender. The £20 notes are still paper not due to be replaced until next year or maybe 2020 .The £50 notes are paper but increasingly hard to spend as many shops look on with suspicion as to many forgeries, and cafes , pubs and a lot of places will not except, especially for a small amount.

So, when ordering I should request mostly 20 GPB notes or a combo of 10 - 20? I will have a fat wallet:rolleyes:. Will taxis/car services accept the 50 GPB notes? Museums, river cruises?

  9. Have been reading on CC the last couple of days about "polymer" notes vs. paper money for GBP. I plan on ordering a few pounds/euros before departure and am totally confused about this. Should I ask my bank to order polymer?

    Thanks for any info.

  10. Not sure who is still following this but I had bookmarked it for myself for future reference. Now that I've just returned from the June 17-30 cruise, I can tell you all that the Dublin shuttle was $8 per person one way. In small print at the bottom of the Princess Patter for I think Cobh, I found that I could buy this ahead of time by dropping off a request form (from the Guest Services/Excursion area on deck 5) into the Shore Excursion 24 hour box the night before.

    The Belfast shuttle was complimentary.

Le Havre shuttle was also $8 per person one way if I remember correctly (I had a tour from the port so didn't use this).

Thanks for the info. Very helpful

  11. Oh my, all this insurance info is making my brain roll to one side. While trying to explore all my options, I checked with coverage through the cruise line. They have a decent price, but coverage amounts are much lower than other companies, plus they give "future cruise credit" vs. actually reimbursing me. No, thank you. Coverage offered by TA is good but is "secondary". Like others here I do have coverage through DH's employer but it has a $250 deductible then pays 80%. Great unless it is a large claim. Twenty percent of a large claim is till a good chunk of change. Called the tripinsurancestore and was told there is a company that offers basically the exact same coverage as TA policy and that you can upgrade the coverage from "secondary" to "primary" for $25. The total cost was a bit less that coverage from TA. I reckon I'm just concerned that I'll make the wrong choice. FOMO...fear of missing out.

  12. Thanks to all of you for your input/advice. Unfortunately, the nearest Global Entry location to us is 4 hrs. away. We usually are Pre-Check, but can't rely on that at all times. We'll not tempt Murphy's Law and will go for the longer layover. After an 8 to 9 hr. international flight the last thing on my to do list is sprint through the airport trying to make our connection. We are flying Virgin Atlantic from London, then Delta home. The initial hesitation for the longer layover time was the fact that this will be the last flight out to our home airport and is known for cancellations due to "mechanical problems". Guess that is a moot point should we miss the connection anyway.

  13. I am sure we will have to change terminals . Home airport is a regional one so is normally a good hike. So we must reclaim luggage and go through security again? Have flown internationally , but has been a while so could not remember . We are seniors so usually have pre check

  14. Can some of the experts please advise on the amount of time needed in ATL to clear customs on flt. from LHR? Flight options have a 1 hr. 55 m layover before our connection vs. a 3 hr. 45 m connection.

Thanks in advance for your help

  15. Last year, we enjoyed the garden tour at Buckingham Palace a lot. We also went to Kensington Palace in London. They'll still have the exhibit called "Diana: Her Fashion Story" going on through this year. I'm planning on a boat trip up the Thames to Hampton Court for our trip in September. We might also go to Windsor Castle during our stay in London.

Dublin Castle isn't much. We used the HoHo in Glasgow and enjoyed several museums. We did an excursion to Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness for a boat cruise, Clava Cairns, and Cawdor Castle from Invergordon. That was a great day. I think Edinburgh Castle is a must there.

Thank you for your response. I was unaware of the "Diana" Exhibit or that we could visit Kensington Palace. Did you do an organized tour? Edinburgh Castle.....on my list. As this is a tender port for us, I am undecided about getting our tickets before hand. I am also looking at the Urquhart Castle/Loch Ness cruise. May I ask if you did the ship's excursion or booked on your won?

  16. Which ports are you visiting ?

We are visiting the following ports: Guernsey [st. Peter Port]; day already planned; Cork, Ireland; Dublin; Belfast; Glasgow, Orkney Islands [Kirkwall]; Ivergordon; Edinburgh; Normandy/LeHavre [day already planned]

  17. We are doing a British Isles cruise with 9 ports. Most have or are near a castle. Any recommendations which castles to visit. We are visiting Buckingham Palace and have been to Blarney. Thanks in advance for any help as I'm becoming very confused.
