I am currently booked for the cruise leaving on February 6 from Singapore to Hong Kong.  I have flights to Singapore via Japan Airlines and flights back from Hong Kong to Boston via American Airlines.  All 3 of the companies are denying refunds for the cancellation of this trip.  I have been told by all of them that my ports are not yet heavily impacted enough to warrant a refund. NCL is implementing this 100.4 no-touch scanner which will deny guests entry (also without refund).  Since this virus can take 11-14 days to show, I'm not sure how that system is actually going to help anything.  My travel insurance has said "Unwillingness to travel due to a pandemic virus and fear of fatality is not grounds for coverage".... so the next time someone tells me to get travel insurance, they're going to hear it from me.

So as of right now, I'll be there.  See you on board.  I'll be the one in the hazmat suit (thought that might be hard to differentiate).

So I asked my airline to give me travel credit instead of refund. They were more willing to do that.

After a lot of back & forth with NCL and our agent yesterday we were advised that there would be no refund ( we asked for a credit for a future cruise), or credit.    Looking at headlines this morning, there may very well be refunds.

where will there be refunds? Can you point me to something i can reference? I was suppose to be on the Jade yesterday but clearly I did t take the risk and didn’t get on. I would still like to try and get something back.

  3. Yikes. But I don’t feel like she would have it. It wasn’t spread to Macau yet at that time (Jan 25) and there hasn’t been many cases in Macau. Guess safety first.

I feel like the Jade is more risky with the amount of people from China going on vacation right now.

I can see the Jade sailed. It seems like it left the port late. I was tracking it’s position.

THey can always, and probably will, change itinerary as per T & C...   No cruiseline just cancel a sail-date and go no-where... Only exception is ship a break-down.. (eg. A recent cruise we had booked left USA to 3 ports in Cuba... USA Govt clamped down and would not allow.. Ship ultimately sailed a totally different itinerary, and insurance did not cover situation where government caused the problem.)

Ah true. But this one originates from Hong Kong so I’m waiting for them to offer free cancelations. I thought There was a few cruises that was canceled that originated from China.

Not to my knowledge. OP cancelled their booking and was upset that cruiseline didn't fully refund their fare.  Cruiseline will be operating under normal booking conditions. However, another poster alluded if they had held off maybe cruiselines would cancel the sailing and then a full refund might be applicable as it would have been the cruiseline not the passenger changing the terms of the Contract.

Ah. Well it’s too late now. If you don’t cancel by 1/29 you lose everything. Including the $200USD taxes.

It may have been better not to cancel your cruise, so you would be entitled to a full refund if the Government says "Do Not Travel to China".  The situation is changing daily as the number of people in China with the virus increases.

This is very bad public relations for NCL.

Ya. It’s hard to say what to do is best. Everything is so uncertain. I’m going to try and claim travel insurance on it. Just upset at NCL. Will not book their cruises in the future.

  7. I’m schedule to be on the Jade for the 30th and I’ve canceled the sailing just to recover at least the taxes. NCL is unwilling to give me a refund which other cruise lines are doing. This is upsetting. Losing over $1200 because NCL is greedy and doesn’t care about the well being of their customers. I’m not willing to subject myself to the risk of catching the virus.

I hope NCL will come to their senses before 30th and issue refunds. I have lost faith in NCL and will prob no longer consider them for my future cruises.

  8. We ended up doing the White Pass RR combined with Liarsville, to satisfy my history loving kids (10 and 13). They loved the town of Skagway, especially the park service rangers, and really loved Liarsville. I found Liarsville really eye rolling, but it was the highlight for them so it was worth it. I loved the train but in hindsight would have just taken it to the summit. We took it on in to Canada which didn't add much (in my opinion) since we went just past the border, and didn't go on to the Yukon. As a family compromise it was fine - -I got the train, without the long trip to the Yukon, which would have been too long for my 10 year old.

Part of the reason I'm posting here is to find out more about whether you can go independently. I'd like to go again next summer and rent a car and go farther, on to the Yukon. I'd love it if we could do an independent trip to Liarsville too.

It didn't all seem operational when we were there. We were in a small ish area of a few buildings. We didn't have a meal, just a short show, some cookies and juice, and gold panning. As we were leaving, I realized there were whole areas that we hadn't been in. There were plenty of cruise ships in town so I was surprised they didn't have more going on.

I have the same question. I plan on renting a car and driving to the Klondike summit and suspension bridge. And if possible would like to stop by liarsville. Has anyone figured out the cost at the door without joining one of the tours? Or if that's even possible? If not I may consider doing the salmon bake in Juneau.
