I appreciated not having to handle tongs and utensils that had been handled by other people ahead of me or for someone to handle after me if I was asymptomatic. It works both ways. 

We were tested late in the day, the day before disembarking in Ft. Lauderdale.
 

You’re right, there is always a chance that there could have been asymptomatic passengers or crew that might have tested positive days later. There are always going to be those possible variables. 

 Yes, we’re sailing on Carnival.

I didn’t catch that on the Carnival  site. I will take another look tomorrow.

Actually, Social Distancing is still part of the onboard CDC Cruise Travel staying healthy protocol.

Were the buffets self-serve or did the crew serve? We're hoping they serve like they did on our Princess transatlantic in November. No one tested positive at the end of that cruise. The crew was outstanding.

Wow! We spent two weeks in Grenada and didn't run into any of this. Everyone we met was nice and friendly and honest. In fact, at the grocery store the driver let us know up front how much it would be to take us back to our condo and what a short walk it was (albeit all uphill with groceries - we took the taxi).

 

We spent most of our time on BBC Beach, but did go over to Grand Anse and didn't have any issues at all. We can't wait to go back!

We're looking for a beach to go to, other than Grand Anse. Where is BBC Beach? I don't seem to be able to find it on the map! Thanks for any info you can provide!

I will be on the same cruise and also want to know what packages are available especially for Platinum & Elite pax.

We will be on the Royal Princess on the March 10th sailing as well. We are also Platinum. Platinum guests get 250 minutes per person which we have found the speed to be quite acceptable. We also don't do much with pictures so we haven't had any issues. Hope this helps.

Just got back from Jolly Beach......we loved it. The beach is pretty. 2 beach bars right there for food and drinks... 2 chairs and a really nice big umbrella for $20.00. We had a real fun time....we had hamburgers to eat and they were very good. Yum!!!

Did you get the good burgers at Castaways or at the hotel? Trying to decide whether to do a day pass or just rent chairs and umbrellas near Castaways. Many thanks for all of the great info!!:cool:

I just booked with Steve Bush of Roatan Trips and Tours again for our March 8th sailing on the Emerald Princess. We did the full island tour last time but just a beach break this time. Steve is great. I think you would be pleased.

We also used Steve Bush and had a great day. Steve is a real gentleman and family man. I believe he can be contacted through Roatan Trips and Tours.

:(I had several bulging discs on my last cruise (didn't know that was the problem at the time) and I was very slow moving and in agony. Staying on the ship will make for a peaceful and relaxing day for you.

The first time I stayed on the ship several years due to not feeling well was really a nice surprise for me. The hustle and bustle was gone. I could go where I wanted on the ship and enjoy the sun and shade in peace and quiet.

Like the other posters have said, if you don't have an excursion planned, which you probably wouldn't be physically up for anyway, it isn't a great port to mill around in. The shopping area is a zoo of people and if your back hurts, you'll likely be miserable.

Hopefully, you will find that your really enjoy your day on the ship.

I should have included in my initial post that I feel very badly for the people that had bad things happen to them. It is so very unfortunate for them and anyone else that had a frightening experience. We've been lucky over the years to not have had these kinds of situations. Although we've had some scares, we've been fortunate to have had nothing to this degree. All the best to those who have had unfortunate experiences.

Just a note on where to find your private tour guide if you do choose this option and are docked at Mahagony Bay. You have to walk out to where the taxis are, which is obviously outside the shopping area. THEN, you take a left at the road and walk up and down the hill to where the private tour guides are allowed to pick you up. You will see them down there when you crest the hill.

Poor Steve Bush! We misunderstood this and HE WAITED down there for us for almost 2 hours! :eek: Boy, did we feel stupid but VERY appreciative!

At the end of your day, the private guides can drop you off back inside where the taxis are located.

Just do as you would anywhere at any time, in an American town or city or anywhere else in the world, use common sense and keep safety in mind at all times and you'll have a great time.

My husband and I have been to Roatan several times on cruises. Initially, there were not many options for shore excursions or private tours but the island has grown in this regard. From the beginning, however, I always felt it best to use a local tour company for our visits there. The first time we booked with Fosters and they provided transportation to and from the ship. The second visit, we did a day pass at the Mayan Princess Resort and took a taxi there with a number of other people. The third visit we booked Tabayana Beach Break through the ship and it was our least favorite. There were rows and rows of chairs that were so close together it was hard to sit down or get up.

Our last trip was by far our favorite. We booked with Steve Bush of Roatan Trips & Tours. Steve made our day great and we arranged a very personalized tour of the island. We went to the Butterfly Farm which was very interesting. He took us to a high point of the island so we could see the views and take pictures. He then took us to the Half Moon Resort for a few hours. There isn't a beach but they have lounge chairs right on the water which you can walk into. Not crowded and it was delightful.

We highly recommend Steve Bush and will use him again next time we visit Roatan.
