After you get tendered into GSC, anyone know approximatel how far of a walk it is to the Large Cabanas? We leave on Sunday and purchased a Large Cabana but just cant remember, we rented them before and almost remember being picked up and brought over to the cabana by a trolly...we cant remember for sure tho lol. We have one in our group that said Yes, they will pick you up...any info on that? Thank you in advanced!

They used to have a Tram that would would pick you up , but since the construction started on the Island, they stop the Tram, I'm not sure when they will start running it again

Weather forecasts, including hurricane & storm tracking, is NOT an exact science against mother nature ... The latest predictions, about 36 hours from landfall, somewhere - likely in the NC - continued to change - a million faced with mandatory evacuation orders yesterday, then it's up to 1.5 million in the path of this monster Cat-4 hurricane, estimated up to 5 million at risk from in-land flooding & storm surge, etc. - not all of them have the choice or option to go.

Would anyone on the cruise wish to trade places with them, I don't think so.

As a # of seasoned CC'ers noted, again & again - this isn't the first time nor will ever be the last time - cruising anytime of the year, anywhere in the big ocean, even in Hawaii, are at the "mercy" of mother nature - there are no absolute guarantees about changes in ports, itinerary and weather. A good travel/trip insurance policy is always advisable or less, one is fully self-insured to accept all the given risks.

Cruiselines, whether it's NCL, RCL or CCL, etc. - will get blamed for sailing into the storm, staying too close/behind the storm, chasing too closely with the storm, and "missing" the weather "predictions" (????) and putting passengers at risks by tendering, etc. etc.

You got my company, I join the standby alongside to get bashed and get beaten ... and, for cheerleading, as mother nature always win.

But, several millions now running for their lives with landfall in 48 hours from this monster Florence hurricane - IMHO - would trade places in a heartbeat for safe shelter in place onboard a cruise ship. First responders and health care providers are on full alert throughout the region to prepare for the worst - and, qualified disaster teams are being activated & mobilized to get ready for deployments ... extended ones.

    Yep 👍🏻

  3. we have ( friends on the Eccape right now, we have been in contact with them since they left NYC, they had some rough seas leaving NYC( somebody else reported on that not our friends) and after that it has been smooth sailing, they send us pic and it looked like the Atlantic was a lake. Right now they are all enjoying a beautiful day at GSC .if you hear other reports I'm sorry to say but they are "Drama Queens" all is well on the Escape and I have total faith that the Captain will keep everyone safe .

  4. By the way in Germany there was a lawsuit and cruise lines must advertise final price. Taxes, fees , gratuities must be included in this price.

By the way we once again just cruised there. It is so convenient to go to store or restaurant and see final prices!

    Like you said ”in Germany”

  5. BF can't sleep without a fan on his side of the bed, partly for the breeze but also for the white noise. I picked up a nice little box fan on Amazon that is powered by a USB plug, rather than a regular wall outlet. Is this something we'll be allowed to have onboard, or will it get confiscated? Any guesses?

We bring our fan with us every time, never any issues, I do take it in our carry on not in checked luggage . You will have no problem, just don't bring anything with a heating element and a fan does not have that

P.S I have brought both USB and a small travel electric fan.

  6. In doing some research, I believe I saw some H9 suites have the support pole in front of the hot tub in the room. Does anyone know if room 16116 has the pole? Thanks

I just looked at that room on YouTube I didn't see a Hot Tub or a Pole, am I missing something? oops sorry I was looking at the Breakaway

  7. I'm pretty sure TheGinBoy was pointing out to the people that were quick to "ban" the passenger, including you, that there are often more details to a situation, and people should pause before making unfounded assumptions. He made no assumptions that she was pushed overboard, or that there was any foul play, or even that he knew the specifics of this particular case. His statements were general, yours, and others weren't.

The "ban" statements, and the statements about the woman being billed for the rescue effort were the irresponsible statements. We don't know how or why she fell overboard, we can only infer, but those statements imply that she was negligent in falling over board, and no one else was. Once the facts of the cases are known to the proper authorities, and if it's determined this woman was responsible, then that's the point at which a banning and/or bill to them should be considered, not before then.

You do not just "fall" overboard, sorry in order for anyone to "fall" overboard they have to been doinfg something incredible stupid

  8. Oh gosh. One of my worst nightmares falling overboard. I hate leaning on the railings (even though I know they’re safe) on cruise ships in case I fall.

I hope he’s found safely, and best wishes to his friends and family.

rest assure, you do not just "fall" overboard, unless you are doing some incredible stupid

  9. We don't buy drink packages on Carnival or HAL because we don't drink that much. I do get free drinks in the casinos every time we cruise and the server gets a tip - I asked the casino hosts because I wanted to make sure he/she received a tip. So free is free there.

ok so you get drinks in the Casino, that means you are gambling right ? so "free" is not "free" there either, nothing is ever "free"

  10. omg, watching the video, I have to wonder why the guy that got pushed into the Pool felt the need to go over there and start talking crap( no I didn't hear him say it but you can tell from the video that he got into that one guys face and said something to him) it looked like the fight was starting to get under control before that guy showed up got said something and got pushed . He came out of the pool and started beating on the guy that pushed him, that's when all hell broke loose.

sometimes people just need to remove themselves from a situation and not make it worse

  11. Yes, they had coffee makers (was just on Escape in an balcony) but I am sorry I don't remember what type- it looked like a typical bargain/hotel type one. You probably wouldn't want to use the water from the room though- I would bring a water bottle and fill it elsewhere.

The water in the Cabin is the same water as anywhere else on the ship

  12. Hi friends! I read on another forum that the Haven sundeck does not allow children anymore. I kind of don’t believe this — does anyone know??

    TIA!!

I thought the Haven Sun deck was alway 18 and over , the Haven Court yard is for families too, but not 100% sure. I know that H2o is adult only during the day and has signs posted , ( Getaway and Breakaway) I'm assuming the Escape is the same, but that wasn't the question :) but just like any other rule I'm sure its not being enforced.

  13. Good morning fellow cruisers! DH and I are new to NCL, doing the majority of our sailings on Celebrity. I have been scouring the CC NCL threads for tips and reviews and I have noticed an unpleasant theme. Many people comment on the service and food, especially in the MDR as being mediocre to poor. While I am aware of differences in opinions, I cannot help but be worried as food and service is high on my list of cruise priorities. Surely NCL would not continue to be able to build multi million dollar products without some redeeming qualities. And please don't tell me to go back to Celebrity. I am not bashing the NCL product...my next 2 cruises our in Jewel and Bliss...I am just a bit perplexed as to how so many have poor experiences with dining. Perhaps they are the only vocal ones?

I have never had a bad meal on any of the NCL ships I have sailed on, never bad service, don't worry so much about bad reviews ,you will have some cruisers that will never be happy and if one thing goes wrong their whole cruise is ruined.

You will have a great cruise , dont worry o much about the bad reviews. I also think that people are fast to post bad reviews but good reviews are not being posted as much. Enjoy every bit of your cruises. The jewel class ships are great in my opinion, perfect size not too small and not too big.

the Bliss is brand new, we are booked on her in 2020

Free your mind of the negative reviews and form your own

  14. We are booked on Jade July 1-15 from Hamburg but flights from Boston area are astronomical. Anyone have ideas how to get cheaper flights?Thank you.

check Islandair, very good in pricing and also a good Airline would fly with them again. Also look at Norwegian Airline ( nothing to do with NCL, also good pricing ( friends have flown with with and said it was good also note that one way tickets are almost alway more then round trip flights

  15. Interesting comments about straws at home..who knew? I'm drinking a glass of ice tea right now without a straw...

I have bourbon on ice without a straw most every weekend.... :)

A milkshake is the only time I ever see the need for a straw. I guess I'm an outlier.

You are right, I’m drinking water right now without a straw, but later tonight my husband will be making some some Frozen Magarittas and the will be served with a straw. That’s the time the straws we brought with us came in very handy for the frozen drinks .

  16. Babycenter states that children under the age of 5 years should not use hot tubs. This is because young children can overheat more quickly than adults. Your child should also be tall enough to stand in the center of the hot tub and still keep her head above the water to help prevent drowning.

    Marion

  17. Okay, just to play devil’s advocate.....just how diligent will everyone be with their straw cleaning? Are you bringing dish soap? Going to use hand soap? You won’t be able to see all the goo and mold in a metal straw....

Rather than carrying around a straw that I might forget or might drip all over I think I might just carry an insulated tumbler that has a straw and dump my drinks in it...

Then again, is anyone just bringing their own packages of disposable ones?

We did and they did come in very handy
