  1. IMO best restaurant on the Jade is Le Bistro. Teppanyaki is also extremely popular and was full every night on both of our Jade cruises - it's like Benihana. Another good one is the steakhouse - Cagney's. Not so fond of La Cucina (too much like Olive Garden). Moderno is also good, but a LOT of food. With the UDP, Le Bistro and Cagney's will be sold out by the end of the first day of your cruise as will Teppanyaki. Definitely get advance reservations if you want to try these - they are WORTH it!

Thank you! I made sure I made those reservations.

  2. Hi, I reached out to my TA because I saw that the prices to my cruise decreased. She told me she was emailing NCL and for me to call her yesterday evening to see what happened. When I called her, someone said she was on the phone with a bridal party. Called her today and was told she went to lunch. Well, I went on NCL and all the cabins prices had increased. Just got off the site and now the all the cabins are sold out. Not dealing w/ her anymore. All I was looking for was an upgrade or obc.

    Bummer.

  3. Have to agree with LrgPizza regarding Food Republic. The lunch time opening though is only from 12 noon to 1:30 and only on sea days. It's closed on embarkation day as well. Dinner opening is from 530-930. If you have the UBP, the Toro Toro is a great spicy tequila based drink.

I don't think the Jade has the Food Republic. :(

  4. In most cases, the plan saves money over going à la carte. If you have interest in 4 specialty restaurants (based on your reservations) you will likely go to at least 2 of them.

    3 meal SDP (when purchased on-board) = $93.22 ($79 + 18%)

2 meals when purchased à la carte can easily total the same as purchasing a 3 mead SDP.

Thanks. That is exactly what I am trying to decide. If we only end up going to 1 restaurant then the 3 or 4 meal plan would not be worth it and if we end up going to 2 and have the 4 meal plan then it would not be worth it. Decisions Decisions! :) Our trip is on the Jade and at least I know I can buy a plan as late as the 2nd day of the cruise.

  5. We have reservations for 4 of the specialty restaurants but haven't purchased the dining plan as of yet because I don't know if we will actually do all 4 reservations. When is the last possible time to sign up for the Dining Plan? Before Embarktion or anytime on the ship?

  6. I have an extra Cruise Next certificate that expires soon that I don't think I will use since I already have done a final payment on a cruise (used 1 of my Cruise Next certificates for the deposit). What happens if I don't end up using all my Cruise Next certificates by the deadline? Do you think I can use it for OBC for my next cruise?

  7. My first cruise out of Galveston was princess and we went to the same ports. It was in late February and even though the ship was full (4000 pax) we saw less than 10 kids the whole time. When we toured the ship, we noticed that the kids area and the pre teen area was empty and no staff was even working the area. The average pax age was around late 50s-early 60s.

On Princess, the "Serenity" area was a pay to reserve thing. But the drink package was a really good deal. I haven't returned to Princess because I prefer Carnival due to its cost, the number of southern ports that Carnival sales from, and the fun activities on the ship.

  8. When I did a 8 day solo cruise on the Splendor in March, it was because my boyfriend last minute, couldn't get off work. I was bummed and wasn't really looking to cruise without him. But once I got a taste of the solo life, I realized it definitely has its benefits. Which is why I am doing two last minute back to back solo cruises in a few weeks. I don't anticipate feeling bummed at all.
