  1. The major problem with cruise ship disaster readiness is that they don't move to ready passengers including boarding lifeboats until its too late. If the Concordia had moved its passengers to lifeboats, even as a precautionary, the lifeboats would have been able to launch.

     

    The days of insufficient lifeboats have been over for decades. USE THEM---NOW

     

    It's unforgivable to think that even 100 miles off a coast, that virtually immediate rescue is unavailable. Considering that the Concordia was close to shore, the lifeboats could have disembarked their passengers in port.

    With satellite communication, any nearby ship(s) can be diverted to the exact position of the lifeboats. One lifeboat should be boarded and launched at every drill.

     

    Passengers need to be ready to be saved, and suffer a little inconvenience in the process! Companies need to be ready to effectively save them.
