I'll be on her on the 25th, its actually our first Atlantic RCCL cruise. We normally cruise Carnival and have only cruised with RCCL to Alaska some years ago. We prefer the smaller ships and really are not expecting much from this older ship. We just needed to get away and spend some relaxing time to spend together.

If no one posts anything i'll post some pics after our trip.

Thanks that would be great!  We did a 12 day Baltic on the Vision 2 years ago and loved it. As a child, my family used to spend the summer months on our small cabin cruiser poking around the coast of Nova Scotia, so small ships make me happy :)

  2. Hi there. As a local I would definitely head to the Royal BC Museum just across the street from the Empress Hotel. It's First Nations Gallery and 1800s Old Town, not to mention the Mammoth exhibit is fantastic. Also a stroll up Government Street to drop in Roger's Chocolates for some Victoria Creams (famous chocolates), Murchies Tea (a wonderful selection of teas that are used at the Empress), and our Hudson's Bay for some Canadian mittens, blankets, scarves, is a great idea. Our Chinatown (including Canada's narrowest street, Fan Tan Alley, is about 10 minutes further up Governemnt street.

    Cheers,

Victoria (yes, that is my name ;))

  3. You will have no problem catching that flight. You will go through Customs as you depart the ship in Vancouver. At the Cruise Terminal there is a marked route to Waterfront Station where you can take the Canada Line Skytrain (built for the 2010 Olympics) directly to the YVR airport. The Canada Line cars are built to accommodate people with luggage and travel time to the airport is less than 30 minutes.

  4. Sailing on Grand Princess later this month. First Princess cruise but have sailed many days with Cunard, Oceania and Seabourn.

What are the extra charges? Gratuities of course. Also excursions and liquor and casino.

Is there a charge for ice cream during the day and is it available? I hope that it is not soft ice cream. I do not drink soda pop. Is there a place to get juice, lemonade or tea and coffee during the day. If I go to a dance club in the evening would I be able to get a juice or ice water without charge. I do not drink alcohol. Are there any parties where the cruise line buys the drinks. DH will have a drink occasionally.

Do they charge for bottled water. I usually just drink what comes out of the tap though. Other than small tip, any charge for room service, even in the wee hours of the morning?

Anything else that might be different than other lines I have sailed with? Anything that is good to know?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Just to add that in addition to the soft serve ice cream available on Lido deck, there is also sugar free scoop-serve ice cream. Usually only one flavour available but very yummy.
