  1. Our family got off Navigator of the Seas yesterday and there was a situation on-board that we're just not really sure how to handle.

On Embarkation day, my nephew who turned 2 on this cruise was in his cabin with his parents and started asking to eat. My SIL and BIL told him that they were about to go eat. What they did not realize at that point was that he had found 2 pills from a previous cruiser. As they turned around, they saw him swallow one of the pills and they were able to get the second pill away from him. They immediately rushed him to medical where the doctor and team could not identify either of the pills so, they gave him some charcoal and said that if he did not use the restroom in a few days or he started vomiting to come back to medical. The charcoal played with his system all night with his stomach hurting and him not feeling good. Wednesday morning comes and he is still not feeling like himself and he has not used the potty so, they took him back to medical and they gave him a suppository. They did not have one for kids so, they broke it in half for him. We went out to Cozumel and after a short time he used the bathroom and had a little bit of fun in the pool and ocean and seemed to be feeling a bit better. Later that evening or the next morning, he started not feeling himself again and they took him back to medical because he should have pooped more than once. They apologized and said that they accidentally gave him the adult dosing of the charcoal and gave him another suppository.

Once this issue was brought to the cabin steward he was so sorry as he has kids and said he even called his wife to tell her. Royal Management on the other hand has been less than satisfactory. An investigation was in the process of being conducted and all we know is that no more pills were found in the vacuum cleaner. Requests to have a member of management meet with my SIL and BIL was never setup as promised. They were offered $500 off their next cruise, but I'm not sure if they took it or not.

On Monday, they are going to consult with his regular doctor and they have the second pill so, hopefully it can be tested to see which drug it is.

This is very serious, we have no clue if he will have any lasting effects from this incident. What's fair in this situation? This same situation could happen in a hotel and would the the exceptions be the same? What would you do in this situation?

  2. We're heading out on Navigator in 11 days and my SIL is bringing her son that is turning 2 years old while on the cruise. In Cozumel, we wanted to go to Paradise Beach, but my SIL is not bringing a car seat. Is this going to be a problem? Any suggestions for someone that's bringing a 2 year old on a cruise for the first time?

  4. Due to its tiny size there is not much of anything you can do to make it more stable when you are moving because it is going to mimic your motion. If you are moving it is going to move. Big cameras do the same but because they are heavier it is easier to hold them still. It's not just an issue with your GoPro, it happens with all small cameras and phones.

Have you checked YouTube for video on shooting or editing.?

I've checked and watched some on YouTube, but I did not know if any of the GoPro experts had any suggested videos.

You need a steadycam type device, called a handheld gimbal. You'll find a variety on amazon. They've become quite popular with mobile journalists so there are budget options out there. They're designed to keep the camera steady as you walk around holding it. They're also available for smartphones but do check for specific reviews as there's usually trade offs.

Thanks for this information. I'll have to look around and see what I can find. I've very limited on budget for this cruise so, I'll put this on my wish list to have before my next adventure. :D

  5. I've had my GoPro Hero 3+ for a while now and used it on a few trips. I really like it, but I have have a few questions:

Is there a way to make it more stable when I'm walking around?

Are there some recommended places where I can learn more about shooting and editing with my GoPro?

  6. I just called Royal and the lady I spoke with did not know anything about it, not to say that they may not have told them yet. I went ahead and paid mine to be on the safe side and to just not have to hassle with it on the ship. Of course, I'll bring a little extra cash for extra tips for excellent service.

  7. Just got a email from my TA notifying me tips go up $1.00 pp/per day starting 1/2/2018. If I prepaid them I will be grandfathered in.

    Anyone else here this.

I don't mean to be rude, but can we have proof? I'm on a 1/14/18 sailing and I have not received anything from Royal on this subject. I booked directly with Royal.

  8. Without a package, they only sell soda in a 12oz can, which was $4.12 this past June on Oasis.

In the windjammer there is a self serve soda machine. Not freestyle. Just sprite, coke and diet coke.

Thanks for all the information. I was trying to figure out if it was worth some of the pre-sail deals that are being offered. Since it's the old Internet and no Freestyle machines then I think I will stick to no Internet and Unsweetened Tea with Splenda.

  9. No Freestyle on Navigator. The cruise line has not publicly revealed plans for installing Freestyle machines.

Thanks Bob! Do you know the price per coke for cruises out of Miami? I don't know if the beverage package would be worth it for my wife and I. I don't drink that many sodas and my wife is allergic to caffeine and carbonation, but we love the Powerade and other beverages from the freestyle machines.

  10. We completely lost track of time and missed the first meet n greet :(

I kept trying to see if we could spot ourselves in your sailaway videos, since we were not far from you - but alas, no luck.

It was nice to meet you!

Oh no, I hate that you missed the meet and greet. We had to good time even thought it was rather warm. It was nice meeting you as well!

I have only read a the beginning of embarkation Day... But I couldn't wait to ask.. What are the Cabanas?

I'll show you more when I post the Half Moon Cay (HMC) day. The cabanas are an excursion on HMC. There are only 15 of the smaller ones and they sell out very quickly. When you purchase one, that just reserves you one for the day. They get assigned first come, first serve at the excursion desk for those that have purchased one. It's important to get there early to make sure you get the cabana of your choice. Also, they go ahead and get your soft drink selections and your shoe sizes for the snorkel fins that are included in the rental.

  11. The just as good gluten free version for Cynthia and I.

I had requested a side of Peanut Butter and it never came with the desert. This is some of the little attention to details that was lacking along with the slow service.

We made it back to our room around 9:00 PM. I rested for a minute, put my shorts and tee shirt back on and then headed to our informal meet and greet that was held in the Pirate Pizza area. Julie was so stuffed from dinner that she made herself sick and was not feeling well so, Cynthia decided to stay in the room with her. I was really tired and I did not plan to stay but about 30 minutes. For some reason they had the roof closed over the adult pool and it was flat hot in there. We had a good turnout of about 15 people and great conversations. The next thing I knew it was between 11:00 PM - 11:30 PM. It was time for me to head to bed as we had an early morning for Half Moon Cay.

That's all for tonight, I'll start working on Half Moon Cay tomorrow and post it as soon as it's ready.

  12. We missed the picture of the Gluten Free Bread.

For Appetizers, Cynthia had a quesadilla that was modified to be gluten free and without meat. She thought it was just OK, nothing that just blew her away.

Julie and I tried Corn Chowder Maryland. I was very under seasoned. I don’t like much pepper and I hardly add salt to my food and it needed a little pepper and a bunch of salt.

Also, I ventured out and tried the Rare Find of the day, Cured Salmon, Candied Tomato. This was excellent. I wished I would have ordered a second one.

For our main meal, Julie had some grilled chicken with potatoes and broccoli. She said that it was really good and that the chicken had a lot of flavor.

Cynthia and I ordered the Vegetable Lasagna. However, when the food came out it was more like Vegetable Spaghetti. We found out that the chef did not have a way to make the lasagna noodles gluten free. I wish that there would have been a bit more communication with us a head of time so that we at least had a heads up that our order had changed. It was really good and a great substitution.

For desert, it was Chocolate Melting Cakes all the way around. Here is the famous Gluten version.

  13. Here is a video that I made of some of the sail away with my GoPro.

Also, I did a Facebook live video.

We relaxed for a bit as we headed out to sea. Then we realized that Julie’s phone was in the room charging and we needed to get it on airplane mode before we got further out to sea. I was nice enough to make a run back to the room to grab her phone. On the way, I caught a glance at the deck party going on.

Here is a short clip that I took with my iPhone.

I made it back to the ladies and we took care of Julie’s phone and rested a bit longer. About 6:15 PM we made it back to the room and found that our turn down service was already completed.

Side Note: There was no paper for me to fill out regarding service. When I met Tamrin he told me that he would be providing the service twice per day without me even asking.

We got ready for dinner and we headed over to the Renoir Restaurant on Deck 3. This is the dining room for Any Time Dining. There was a small line where we waited for about 5 minutes or less. We were brought to table 223. The first thing I noticed was that they no longer put the names of the wait staff on the table only the number. The service was slow and not really up to par with Carnival standards.

Gluten Bread Basket for Julie. Julie loved the bread basket, maybe a little too much.
