We stayed in cabin 6506 on the Venezia in September, and it had a nice sofa area. It does seem like all the cabins are different in that area. I know that we had binoculars in our cabin, but the cabin above us did not. Hope this video helps!

Hi, is there any chance you still have the photos and/or video?  We're sailing in 6506 in September.

  2. Dreamily Remembering the Magnificent Escape tonight. Composing the Trilogy Adventures as I write. Here is what I remember in one photo:

Hello, and thanks for all of your wonderful reviews.

I'm taking my daughter on The Escape the end of the month for a combined 18th birthday / graduation present. Would you mind if I use this pic for my FB cover photo?

I also wanted to tell you that my husband and his friend call myself and his friend's wife the President and Vice President of the BP Club (that's the Button Pusher's Club, lol). We'll gladly make you an honorary member. ;p

  3. Where did you find this cruise? (5/12) That is our ann'y and we have always cruised over it and Mom's Day. I want to book it when we go on Splendor in 6 days :D:eek: so I can get OBC but nothing after March is showing up on the CCL website :(:mad:

Were you able to book your Anniversary/Mothers Day cruise? Hope you had another wonderful trip.

I'm wondering if you found chicken fingers the last time around, lol. Seriously though, was everything as great as it was the first time around? We're finally getting closer to our voyage and now I'm starting to get more excited.

  4. It's clearly stated in the Carnival FAQs here (under 'All Guests Traveling to Canada', scroll down the page about 1/4 of the way) that appropriate documentation to enter Canada will be checked at embarkation, and boarding denied with no refund if docs not in order. Citizens of PRC always need a visa for Canada unless they arrive by air at specific terminals of YVR and YYZ only from a short list of Chinese cities, and they have a same-day direct flight into the US. Since you're arriving in Canada by ship this is not applicable.

They won't see Canadian immigration officials if they don't get off in a Canadian port, but that's not the point - it's whether or not they satisfy Carnivals criteria to board that's relevant and they 100% are not compliant without a visa. Now, whether Carnivals agents *actually* check the documents properly - I wager few of them have had to deal with PRC-nationals boarding a cruise with a stop in Canada - is another matter... but the only way to guarantee they will be allowed on board is to have the right documents - so either choose a different cruise, have them get a Canadian Visa, or be prepared for them to be denied boarding.

NB: another thing to concern yourselves about is what type of visa they have for visiting the USA - if it's a single entry visa, getting on the ship means it expires. For any cruise with any foreign stops, whether or not they leave the vessel at those stops, they'll have to re-enter the USA so a multiple-entry visa is needed.

Thanks. That's what we were looking for.

  5. We are going on closed loop cruise in July from NYC to St. John/New Brunswick and back. We will be in Canada for one day only. This is a small family reunion cruise and my brother's fiance's parents will be visiting from China. They do not want to go through the hassle of applying for the Visa to get off the ship for just one day.

Our question is if they would be able to board the ship in NYC?

My brother can't seem to get a answer from Carnival.

    Thanks.

  6. To the original poster... we went to the reversing falls on our tour and saw the jet boat - it looked like a lot of fun and the tour guy said that people LOVE it. The tour guide also said that the people that run the jet boat have been doing it for a very long time and are experts/very safe. They also have zip lining over the falls too that looked fun.

Thanks. Good to know they are experts and safe. My kids will be 13 and 15 and are thrill seekers (like their mom).

  7. Just got off the splendor yesterday. Had a great time! Can't see land while at sea, no chicken wings but they do serve roasted chicken quarters at the rotiserre and no charge for mini golf. If you can think of any other questions feel free to ask while its all still frwsh in my head

Thanks so much. Good to know about the mini golf.

My DS who will be 13 when we sail will not be happy about the wings. That was his favorite food on the Gem and the place was open 24 hours, lol. He'll just have to figure out a new place to like on the Splendor.

    262 days to go.

  8. Our first ever cruise was the Canada cruise out of NYC this past August. We had a balcony. Until you got very close (morning of port stop) you couldn't see land - but we did enjoy seeing the land from our balcony early that morning. Our cruise was a 5 day and went to Saint John and Halifax. We loved Saint John. We hired a private tour through Roy's Tours and saw everything - drove up the Fundy Trail, they took us to this great place for lunch - they fit a lot into one day and our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Saint John's history. Roy is a taxi driver and he has a "network" of drivers that do these tours. They charge $50/hour (normally $300 day) for up to 6 people. It was just the three of us since we didn't want to try to find others go with us - but it was still very much worth the cost.

We had such a great time on our first cruise that we are going on our second in January (on the SPLENDOR) to the Bahamas.

Thank you. That is what I meant to say. i was hoping we could see land as we are sailing closer to port. We are hoping to have a large group and a bunch love white water rafting. Hopefully we will do the jet boat tour for the reversing falls.

  9. Hi Everyone,

I'm so glad Kath started this thread. We've only ever been on one cruise before. The Norwegian Gem out of NY to Bahamas. We loved it. Now we are booked on the Splendor in July 2014 for a family reunion cruise. We will be on the July 31st cruise to New England/Canada. I have some questions and would appreciate any answers I can get. Thanks in advance.

    1. Does anyone know if the ship sails close enough to the coast that you could see land from the balcony?

    2. Is there a charge for mini golf and if so, how much?

    3. Do any of the food places serve wings? Are there any 24 hour food outlets? Did anyone ever find out about the chicken fingers?

Thanks again in advance for the help. I'm sure between now and then I'll have more questions. The Splendor looks like an amazing ship and we are really looking forward to boarding her.

  10. You rent them at the shore excursion desk.

I think you get priority tender tickets with the clam shell rental. but I'm not sure. We had a suite so we had them anyway.

I think there were signs directing where to go when you got off the tender. I remember, it was a bit confusing because we didn't see the signs right away but if you go in the direction of the Hippo Slide there will be crew members who will take your ticket and help you find a clamshell.

If, for some reason, they skip the stop at GSC due to rough seas or bad weather you'd get a refund.

I think the cost was about $30 but that was a couple of years ago.

Thanks so much. This is a huge help.

  11. Thanks so much for this fantastic review.:)

We are looking forward to our first cruise ever in May.:D As it is on the Gem, your faith in the Captain and crew - even after all you've endured - is quite comforting for our family.

With all the news coverage about the Triumph (we're praying they return home safely and soon), my 13 and 11 year old children were getting a bit nervous. Since showing them your ongoing review and praise for the crew, they have calmed down and are once again looking forward to an amazing vacation.:D

Your family is not only beautiful on the outside, but your words show you are beautiful on the inside as well.:)
