  1. You could get the train to Inverkeithing then a taxi to the cruise terminal or a bus to Ferrytoll park and ride and a taxi from there.

If you have a bus pass all it will cost you is the taxi fare.

You could contact Ferrytoll and ask them about taxis.

Fred. Olsen used to run a shuttle from Inverkeithing station, you could also contact them about that.

I don't know how much a taxi would cost as I usually get someone to drive me to the cruise terminal as it is only about 3/4 of an hour from my home.

  2. Don't get an outside cabin at the front of the ship.

We were in 5002 and when the ship was leaving or docking there was a lot of noise, either from the anchor or motors.

We got wakened a couple of times at five in the morning when the ship was docking.

  3. What I don't get is the cheapest price for the Icelandic cruise in June/July 2019 is £1799 pp.

I've never spent more than £1199 pp for 11 nights and that was the dearest I've spent in the 10 years I've been cruising with Fred.

Hope the price comes down nearer the time.

I cruise mostly with Fred because I live near to Rosyth.

  4. You don't need bottled water.  The tap water is safe to drink.

But doesn't taste very good, to me at least.

Same with the water you get when dining, I prefer the wine.

You get a 1.5 litre bottle of water in your cabin and that costs £1.50 if you drink it or 75p if AI.

My wife takes a 500ml bottle and fills it up from the 1.5l bottle as required.

All bags are x-rayed when returning to the ship after being ashore.

  5. I was on holiday in Spain and booked a boat trip and barbecue. The pick-up point was at the hotel beach we were staying at.

They took us on a 2 hour bus trip, picking up others on the way, then onto a boat which sailed back to the beach we had just left.

Since we were all inclusive at the hotel I nipped into the hotel bar and get decent drinks rather than drink the free sangria on the boat.

At least it was a nice boat trip and I did go back on the boat and endured the 2 hour bus trip back to my hotel.

  6. marc62 I think you are confused, I am posting about seemingly paying £30 for a room at Premier Inn and parking for 10 days.

I wouldn't even need to stay in the room if I booked it for the day I sail, just check in then go on my cruise.

That's if I understand this properly.

  7. Watch the cost of parking at the terminal, think it is very high
    £9.50 per day.

How far is it from the terminal for a couple with limited mobility but still able to walk for 15 minutes before their hips start to protest?

Do you just book the room for the night before and leave your car for the 10 days until you come back?

    Is the car park secure?

  8. If you're a miser like me you will be able to find parking through Park at my House and probably arrange for the person with whom you leave the car to deliver you to the terminal and if you phone, once you know the disembarkation time, they would collect you.
I've not found anywhere suitable in Newcastle with Park at my House.
  9. We made the mistake of booking a cruise about 8 weeks before and the very next week it went down by hundreds of pounds. That said we wanted to do it so got what we wanted (at a cost).
That's what happened to me, I was speaking to someone on my last cruise who had booked it 3 days before they sailed and they paid less compared to what I paid and they were on a higher deck in an outside cabin.

It must have been a cancelation.

  10. I bought the AI package for £15 each and we, my wife and I, were drinking £18 worth of wine with our meal each night then 4 drinks each, usually doubles after we managed to persuade the waiters to give us them, me also a couple of pints as well.

And lots of juice and the occasional beer or wine during the days we were at sea.

At the end of our cruise our bill was only for the gratuities and the 75p it cost us every 2 days for the litre of water that was in our cabin that we used to clean our teeth and take our pills.

I think it is worth it.

  11. Usually when I go on a cruise I book a few months ahead but this time I am thinking of going on a cruise leaving September 16th 2018 from Newcastle, Diamonds Chocolates and Canals.

Would you leave booking it until the week before it sailed since it is only 9 weeks to go?

  12. In the past, we have been offered doubles when ordering say whisky, but now they say you can only have singles. I think they must have tightened up the rules.
They have, that's what I was told, though if you're nice to the waiter/waitress and tell them it will save them time running backwards and forwards with your drinks they will, in the end, give you large ones. At least in the observation lounge they did.
  13. I was on the Swedish cruise in May and what pissed me off was it was one card one drink, I was AI.

I couldn't even get a beer and a nip, I had to order the beer and when it was delivered I then ordered the nip.

In the Neptune lounge I would order the whisky from one waiter then the beer from another.

I complained to the bar manager and eventually I got them together but it took 3 days before the waiters gave me them together.

I drunk the house wine at dinner and it didn't take long but I was in the Spey dining room, I did hear some passengers complaining about the wait but they were in the main dining room.
