We were on the Gem out of NY the last week of February last year and the weather was not an issue but the ship was sold out and quite a zoo as it is spring break for Canada. The ship was sold out and then some, and we wouldn't choose that week again as it was quite stressful with so many people
It is great having a vacation on the calendar to head south after a few months of a northeast winter though and as others have said, by your first sea day it starts to get warm.

I am VERY giddy as our cruise is in 10 days and is NOT the "full Nick" cruise.
Even if it were, I probably would still be giddy!
Gem to Bermuda in October - At Sea
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted
We have sailed to Bermuda four times in October and had different weather each time but must say three of the four times it was rough sailing either down or back, but not both. One year we had to leave Bermuda at 10 a.m. rather than 4 p.m. to out run a storm coming in. It was a rough ride out of Hamilton but smooth once we got a bit out to sea.
As the others said it could be in the 50s or 80s in NYC in October and we sailed out in a Nor'easter one year but the first sea day usually have nice warm sun. Seas can be rough but we still find we love going this time of year, mostly because of the great pricing and weather in Bermuda in October.
It is always a gamble but we are booked again for this October and will continue to do so. You will love Bermuda and find it worth it no matter what the weather.
