    Hi fellow cruisers

Hoping to cruise the QV in November on a 4 day trip to Bruges for the Christmas Markets. Have sailed on QV before with my husband but this time going with a girl friend. We were hoping to book Princess Grill but all sold out so opting for Britannia balcony however on Cunard website it states king bed but we need a twin. Do I just request this when booking? 2 single cabins of course carry a supplement.

It's enough to send you dotty isn't it.

Room stewards are so busy on a changeover day and I always think the more information they have about preferences before embarkation, the less they have to rejig if arrangements aren't suitable.

Our agent always makes sure  our preferences are noted [ the invoice always has our preferences on it] and that gets filtered down to those who need to know so we have no need of dotting anything.

My wife and I always request two singles, the reason is, it gives us more room getting out of bed. If it is still a double bed when you get to your room just ask the steward to make the bed into single beds, and they have always obliged..

  2. He was a person with a great sense of humour.

Made people smile when introducing his mid day speech.

This is the Captain speakinginging in his own dialect.

We always thought of him being a passengers Captain not a company Captain,

in the same mould of Capt. McNaught  and Comm. Warner.

When a Captain is liked by both crew and passengers it speaks volumes.

    Enjoy your retirement.

  3. On our first world cruise, we shared a table for six, one of the other couples got on ship in Sydney,  and after a few nights the lady who was Australian and her partner was English from Liverpool, she said her partner had left something in the cabin and had gone back for it, when he arrived at the table he was furious, one of the head waiters approached him entering the dining room with no jacket and asked him to put a jacket on, back to the cabin, jacket on, back to the dining room, he then explained why he was late, saying I have a new beautiful shirt which I wanted to show off,  I glanced at his partner needless to say head down and feeling embarrassed, for the rest of the meal it was never mentioned again.🍷🥃

Dress code is in the Cunard Brochure

As to be expected, with effect from December 6th for the QE  ( en route ) down under under. Smart Attire evening dress code  ( all categories) changed to No Jacket required 'for every evening'.

Doesn't come as a surprise for me , this is exactly the way as 'P&O Australia' started .

Evening Britannia ( QE)  dining times changed  Early 5.45pm -late 8.pm.

                                               😕

    Í

This is not a surprise to me, Cunard are not the the shipping line the management  think they are, they appear to be cutting corners at anything they can, who is to blame,

Carnival? I have said before, I think  they only  purchased Cunard for the name of CUNARD, fair enough to say if they had not purchased Cunard there would be no Cunard now, to spend all that money to buy a great ship QE2, but a very old ship. My wife and I have cruised many times with Cunard and have seen the decline of the fleet. We think the only thing not to have changed are the wonderful crew members.

I have written to Cunard to complain, and credit to them, they have answered my e-mails saying they are spending millions of  pounds/dollars to improve things, I have yet to see  any improvement.🍷🥃

    Interesting topic.

Have yet to cruise with Cunard but we will be doing so shortly.

Can anyone comment on the usual temperature on the ships?

Is it comfortable in the dining room when wearing a coat/jacket, or do you take them off?

We have sometimes found overheating of indoor spaces can be a factor on our travels in Europe.

We find the main dining room can be cool, many females bring a shawl with them.🍷🥃

My husband  bought me a necklace with a small diamond cluster when on board in March. I received a valuation certificate from Cunard.

I took it to a local up market   jeweller in Australia to have it valued and was pretty disappointed that the value was much less than Cunard's valuation.

    Anyone else experienced this?

However I love it  and get plenty of comments when wearing it- just interested in getting a second opinion!

The trouble with jewellery you may only get the value of the weight (if gold) but you will have paid more for the art work when you made the purchase.🍷🥃

We are advised by Cunard that our request for 2nd sitting on our forthcoming cruise has been noted but as we booked an Early Saver fare we only have second preference and our dining will be confirmed on boarding with no amendments allowed.  I would be interested to learn if anyone has experience of their wishes not being accommodated and whether a visit to the maitre d is likely to bring success.

If you had booked the Cunard fare you, would have had the dining time you requested, but you have chosen the cheaper fare, so you get what is available,  which is only fair to the people who have paid the full amount.🍷🥃

Interesting as on the QM2 voyages I have done (several in Far and Middle East) it would be perhaps 50% of men (if that) only in a tux on formal night not most at all. No one looked awful or out of place if they didn't wear a tux. Maybe it's different on voyages in other regions.

In my 20++ cruises and crossings, I can honestly say that in the public areas (not including the Smash and Grab) I've never seen more than about 2 - 3% of men NOT wearing a DJ, and those were wearing dark suits.

Perhaps it's a European and American thing.

I think your figures are correct, we have done almost 60 Cunard cruises, we have found when in European waters most men wear tux, when in American waters nearly the same, American men not keen to dress up but, will do so, but when in Australian waters they wear what they want to wear.

We enjoy Cunard mainly for the dress code, as least it looks like people have made a effort to dress for dinner.🍷🥃

I also have final payments due next week. Same situation! I was planning to just ring Cunard and pay over the phone - the credit card surcharge hadn't occurred to me!

You can pay Debit Card no problem.

Our  last cruise which we completed this week, we payed the balance by credit card to our T/A no extra charges. companies are not allowed by law to add on extra charges now.🍷🥃

    Good afternoon everyone.

I have cruised many many times but my Hubby will be taking his first cruise with me next June- July on QM2 22 day transatlantic and North America. It will be my first cruise with Cunard in 8 years. And my first time with the new Gala nights.

Hubby has a beautiful dark blue pin stripe suit he wore to our wedding three years ago. And a black suit sadly bought for my dads funeral last year. I have for Christmas bought him two pleated front dress shirts, two bow ties and multiple shirt/tie combos and cuff links.

I am now wondering if these will suffice for the Gala nights or should I buy him a tuxedo? To my mind the difference between his black suit and a dinner suit is negligible. His dark blue pin stripe is absolutely gorgeous and was more than posh enough for our elegant wedding three years ago.

But - will it be de rigeur? Advice sought and appreciated please. Thank you.

I am sure your husband will be SUITED when he gets a Tux, and will feel more comfortable when he sees that most men are dressed in a Tux. 🍷🥃

There is plenty of choice in the main Britannia Restaurant and in the Kings Court, Lido, for all tastes

True, what you say, but we have done over 50 cruises with Cunard and noticed cuts on every cruise we go on now, food, we think the Head Chef is given less to spend per passenger, so that means less choice, quality and amount, I do not blame the crew,

orders come from Head Office and this also applies throughout the ship. New cruisers

I think , think everything is great, but they do not know what it was like. I have also said many times the only thing that never changes are the wonderful crew members on ship.🍷🥃

I was on the last Alaska cruise, and I don't remember anything special on the petits fours tray. Shame on you for eating the good chocolates before I got any!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the record, and I realize long-time Cunard passengers already know this, I want to point out that "Carnivalization" isn't all bad. Cunard was broke when Carnival bought the company. Without Carnival, there would be no QM2 (or QV or QE) and Cunard might very well have gone out of business at the end of QE2's life.

You are correct in saying, if it was not for Carnival, no Cunard. True, but  I think,  100%  they purchased Cunard for one reason, and one reason only, the world famous name of CUNARD. 🍷🥃

Thanks for reporting back, sorry to hear you found Queen Elizabeth such a disappointment.

I think it sounds lovely that crew can bring their families on board in port, I can't agree that it's not acceptable. If you disembarked in Southampton how did it affect you ?

I doubt the dining room staff or the cabin staff are allowed the same chance to invite families aboard.🥃🍷

  14. Maybe having a inside cabin would help, would not be able to see the movement of the waves.  Pennbanks comment not a bad idea to stay on ship and have a good look round plenty to discover, plus afternoon tea. I am sure you will enjoy.🍷🥃

p.s. The casino is closed when in port.😀😀

I was on that sailing in PG.  One gala night a man arrived attired in a zip-front leather jacket and took his seat at a two-top.  A waiter approached him.  The zip-front leather jacket wearer then left the dining room.

Have you ever thought, Head Waiters do not say anything for fear of losing a traveller who pays to use the GRILL $$$$$ ? 🥃🍷

Well done that Waiter, but I do think it would have been better , if, one of the Head Waiters had addressed the matter .🍷🥃

  17. We are due to sail on the Queen Victoria late September with a call to Venice, now that looks like that port may be changes.

I can understand the reason why, but, what a loss of revenue to the local business that will create. I t. Will be interesting  what changes Cunard will have to make on this cruise?🍷🥃

This is our first crossing at the end of August. What do women and men usually wear around the ship during the day? Thank you!

Anything goes during the day, just casual wear including shorts for. men.  After  6.00pm a different ball game, smart casual at least, do not worry about your dress.🍷🥃
