Last cruise I went on was scheduled to go to Guernsey (Princess), it was decided before leaving Southampton to substitute due to storms in the Guernsey area.  We went to Brest.

    Regards John

Think I was on the same cruise.

Brest was actually nice enough. We did see a few nasty sights at that market though! 😨

did wonder being that it was a 3 day taster cruise, if they would have done the same on a longer cruise.

  2. Having just got off, the food was bad. There were some exceptions, for example the soup was good on every occasion, but it really was that bad.

The buffet was continually cold, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sat on the train now, my girlfriend can't wait to get home to eat and that's the first time that's ever happened after a cruise. Merly was correct in saying there were times the always available option wasn't displayed on the menu, but having had the grilled chicken, it just looked so unappetizing.

The steak I had last night is the worst piece of beef I have ever tasted.

That said the service was excellent, probably the best we had ever.

  3. Hi all,

We leave on Tuesday and have just had our tickets. I am Gold and my partner is Black via Status match (but our first MSC cruise)

Where does it say that, if indeed it does, say it on our tickets? Searched and searched, and can't see anything.

I presume it must do somewhere, in order to use priority boarding, etc.

    Many thanks!

  4. The big sites are fairly close together, apart from the Rock Church, which is worth seeing.

Depending on where you dock (RCI usually is at West Melkki, which is miles away.) Get shuttle for about 10 Euro, walk down the main street, you end up at a market, and there are two cathedrals as well as (from memory) a Palace. When you are standing at the funky looking Russian-looking Cathedral, turn around and have a look at the stunning white building (and then walk towards that.)

    Walk back up the street.

Stockmann is a nice department store, I seem to remember it was Europe's largest, or something like that - a bit like Harrods.

  5. Will we be able to get a full English breakfast on the ship, sailing from Soton?

It's the only time of the year I get one!

Also we bought the cheaper drinks package, is it still only Heineken on draught?

@little britain ... yes, possibly the Ovation. We are on this one on the 4th Oct

  6. I wonder when they were introduced on Preziosa? The recent review of the ship by Sandra (plucasana) makes no mention of them. She was in YC. It's probably to do with the ship sailing from Southampton. Seems MSC have copped that the British like the facility of tea/coffee making available to them. They'll be available on Magnifica from Southampton next year.

My GF will be happy. We stayed in a budget hotel in Southampton earlier this year where they didn't have a kettle, and I've had it brought up regularly since.

@little britain ... I'm sure I remember your name from one of the roll call threads I was on years ago

I'd also like to know if there is a fridge / minibar in the room, as I am carrying insulin. Never thought about it.

  7. Hi all,

First time MSC cruiser. We are leaving from City Cruise terminal in Southampton, but it leaves at 6pm.

Via status match, I am Gold and my GF is Black.

At what time can we board?

When we have been with RCI, the suggested embarkation time is very flexible, and they don't turn you away.

We are on Deck 13 if it makes a difference.

    Many thanks in advance

  8. Hi all,

I've cruised a few times with RCI, and we are giving MSC a try, so we are doing a Southampton round trip on the Preziosa in October. I have a few questions that I have not really found answers to elsewhere.

    • How is embarkation handled? It's from the City Cruise terminal, my partner will be status matched to MSC Black, and I will be Gold. We are on deck 13 and its the fantastica experience. Will they allow you on the ship before the time you are allocated?
    • What about disembarkation. Same deal?
    • What's the cutoff for pre-booking drinks / excursions etc before we get on?
    • What is the likliehood of getting a table for 2 in the restaurant? I believe we have been assigned first seating from the docs I have.
    • How strictly are the dress codes adhered to after 6pm? We dress, but not overdress.
    • What's the equivalent of the "cruise compass" called, like the daily planner of events. What sort of events can we expect?
    • What is the entertainment like? Is it lots of "on-board" cast production shows, or are there headliners? Any indication of how good they are?

Thanks in advance for your help!
