  1. An earlier post had a photo of the TV, it showed a speed of 7.5 knots (thru' water or SOG?).

Sent from my Lenovo TAB 2 A8-50F using Tapatalk

SOG, speed over ground, can be different from SOW speed over water, I think he needed that speed for the stabilizers to work, is the interview at the time of the actual storm? my point is, what would have happen if the ship lost power so close to shore? Sorry, s...t happens don't work for me :(

  2. Did I say anything about water flow over the rudder? No, I was speaking about the thrusters. While the ship might not have made over 3 knots, the seas were coming towards her, so the "speed through the water" was far different than the "speed over the ground". With thrusters in tunnels, any significant water flow past the ends of the tunnels (the outside of the hull), causes the thrusters to cavitate and lose effectiveness. I've worked with tunnel thrusters like this on many ships over 40 years.

And, again, if the ship had rudders, heading into the seas creates "speed through the water", which is what a rudder needs, not speed over the ground. Rudders lose effectiveness at very low speeds (under 5 knots, unless they are Becker, or trim tab rudders) or when the seas or current are traveling in the same direction as the ship.

Ok, make sense to me, my experience is limited up to 150 ft, Feadships, but back to the beginning, do you think somebody really drove the ship manually during the storm

    or just plot the heading?

  3. That is for when the ship is docking. First off, thrusters are completely ineffective when either the ship or water speed is more than 5 knots. The "helm" controls both the speed of the propellers and the direction they point, since this is the steering. It works just like any other ship, and in seas like this, you do not use the "computer" or auto-pilot, you hand steer.

Not really, I will be very surprise if the ship did more then 3 kt into this soup, there is no more need to have water flow over the rudder, actually there is no rudder on this ships.

  4. Celebrity done WRONG! they are still showing the Continental doing Israel, not till the last room is sold on the pretend that they are doing a Holly land cruise then they going to drop the boom on you. 12 hours notice, come on how many goats can I see :(

We are having a great time on the do it yourself Holly Land trip, less holly more land.

The north off Israel is like a mini Tuscany including Nazaret

the sea of Galilee and Tsfad, were we sleeping tonight. we gave up on the Golan heights, local knowledge and wife said NO.

Tomorrow Haifa, Acer and the caves In Rosh Anikra. the story in Israel is that some Israeli sailboat picked up 11 refugees from a sunken boat of the coast of Greece, one dead baby, talking about a bad cruise ha :( everything in prospective.

Sorry about the spelling of the Hebrew names.

So for all the posters that thinking that Celebrity save my life, take a cruise in your bathtub with your rubber ducky :)

Got to go , getting late.

    Stay safe.

  5. Just came back from a full day in Jerusalem, Yad Vashem, Israel museum, Western

wall. lots of Israeli security and our driver/guide was packing a hand gun in full view.

Got the tour van at the hotel upon arriving in Israel. Now dinner in Jaffa and a test of nightlife in Tel Aviv. Tomorrow the northern part of Israel, might stay in Tsfad.

We will rejoin the ship in Rhodes.

    prices:

Rome to Tel Aviv $93+25 bag fee.

Tel Aviv Hilton $122 per room per night.

Guide and van $350 per day, we are 5.

All was decided over dinner at Rome when we got the news.

    Take care, stay safe.

  6. Jerusalem and the West Bank(where the Terrorists are rioting) are not near where the cruise ships dock ! I do not understand why the cruise to Israel was cancelled

Ashdod and Haifa are not were the riots taking place, Israel is the most interesting place to visit if you forgo the Arab section of Jerusalem, the passengers should have given at least a choice were to go once the ship docked in Israel. Next we wont dock in NY because there are riots in Baltimore.

  7. What really amazes me is that there are so many inconsiderate people. I was on another cruise line in the Caribbean. It was beautiful weather every day, and every day I tried to get my lunch at the buffet and sit out by the pool to eat. I never once was able to because the same people "parked" themselves at the poolside tables early in the morning and never left. They lounged there, ate there, played cards there, and napped there. It was clearly their "spot". That was my last cruise on that line. I've never encountered anything that bad on a Celebrity cruise.

In the back of the buffet there are outdoor tables for you to eat, please don't drag food into the pool area. the trail that some of you leave is not really nice.

  8. No way in hell would I EVER leave a vehicle in a lot under the Dolphin Expressway. No. Way.

Miami is an insane, crooked, crime ridden city with about a quarter of the population being illegal aliens with a corrupt police force. I am not exaggerating.

Been in Miami for 40 years, great place, were are you from, la la land?
