  1. Hi everyone!

It's been a few years since I've been to St. Martin/Maarten.  We used to take a bus over to Grand Case, and eat lunch at the Lolos.  Does anyone know for sure if they are still there, and if they're open?  Not sure since so much has happened in the past few years.

    Thank you! :)

does this also work for Verizon iPhone?

I don’t want internet, just would like to send/receive an occasional text from family back home

The only way to send/receive texts back home is to buy the internet package.  Or wait until you're in a port, and find a place with WiFi.

Thanks for the comments. We will be having a family meeting to weigh our choices. Right now. I am leaning towards the Quantum since that would give us a chance to fly from Atlanta to Seattle with a couple of days to see Seattle highlights before boarding the cruise.

We'll be flying from ATL to Seattle next year too, and had the same question as you!  I think we're leaning toward Quantum too.

Is the ferry easy to locate?

You need to take a cab to the ferry. Then the ferry over to St John. Then another cab to Trunk Bay.  Another option is to rent a car (usually around $100 from Avis) and take it on the car ferry yourself and drive all around the island!  That’s what we always do.

  5. We have reservations for next month -- thank you for the good review!  Did they have assigned loungers for you when you arrived, or did you pick the ones you want?  Do they all have umbrellas?  Did you go up to the rooftop pool?

  6. I always check the sailing/category/stateroom we want before leaving home.  Then, we visit the Next Cruise desk and tell them exactly what we want, and what the lowest price was that we saw before we left.  If they have that same price still available, and it comes with lower deposit, and OBC, I take it.  Then I have it automatically credited to my TA, so I can work with her from then on.

This might sound stupid but do they have to be wrapped in a pre-packaged case or can they be separate bottles?

They can be separate, but be aware that they can open the bottles to check if there is liquor in them.  We always bring refillable bottles and fill them at the water stations on the ship.  They have excellent water on the ship!

The new Avid hotel is quite nice. They even allowed us to check in very early which they didn’t have to do.

    Had hobbit second breakfast. Lol.

There is not much in walking distance so the second breakfast will hold us over till an early dinner which we will probably door dash in. We will just longe around in our room and hang by the pool.

But the hotel was about a 15.00 Lyft fare from the cruise port, and we get a free ride to the airport in the AM. Price was reasonable at 175.00 for the night for a great bead. Basic but new and clean room with a huge 55 inch TV. Which is awesome. Bathroom is great.

Thank you!  We’ll be on the Allure in September and are staying at the Avid pre-cruise. Good to see some pics.

  10. Hi everyone!  We'll be on the Allure in September and I'm considering an aft Boardwalk Balcony.  Maybe 12727.  Is the Abyss slide on the Allure yet, and if so, will this obstruct our view of the Aquatheater or the ocean, more than it's already obstructed normally?  Does anyone have any recent pictures from an aft balcony, to give me an idea of what to expect?

Also, would it be better to be down on a lower deck, for a better view of the show in the Aquatheater?

    Thanks in advance!  😄
