Yes, the spa has the heated loungers. They are tile and get nicely warm. This is a coed area of the spa. In that space, there is a super hot steam room, an aromatherapy room which I liked the best, and a larger steam room, as well as some waterfall showers that were pretty underwhelming. This is available for pay, either by session or a cruise length pass. They gave us some freebie samples and scrubs as well.

I'd say the pass is worth it on colder itineraries or if you have a lot of sea days. It was very relaxing. There are windows to the outside too so you can see the sea which is nice.

(This was my experience 18 months ago, not sure if anything has changed)

Are you referring to Royal Caribbean? I can't find any images or videos showing what you described

  2. Hi,

Limited in what we can do because we have a 7 year old.

We can do a kayak tour of auke bay and get off and walk mendenhall lake shore or go on a river float trip.

We've never been to Alaska but If our primary goal was just to feel that we are surrounded in the glory of Alaska's scenery, which would you choose?

  3. Hi everyone,

Sorry, I should have researched further to see the list of banned items before asking.  The reason I ask, is because I'm having a hard time justifying having to pay extra (almost $500 for the two of us) to upgrade to the premium plus beverage package, just so that we can have Latte's.  I just had a thought that if I brought my own Nespresso and Frother  I could avoid having to pay for a-la-carte latte's.  We usually cruise celebrity so the fact that the included beverage package with the promo doesn't include water or coffee is just kind of irritating and I was hoping for a work around.

I would definitely rule out the Dawn.  Loved the ship, but they don't have much of a spa compared to the newer ships.  I have not done the Encore yet, but have sailed Spa Haven rooms on both Breakaway and Escape (and Getaway).  Breakaway and Getaway are identical.  Of the 3, I think the Escape wins, mostly because it does have more room - and the snow room is kind of fun!  The the pool waterfall thing is loud, but for me it kind becomes background white noise.  I didn't notice if it was better on the Escape vs the other two, but I do remember hearing it in all 3.  Below is a link to my photos from the Escape

    Booked Escape yesterday!

  5. The only NCL cruise we've ever done is the Getaway. We normally cruise with Celebrity but I have a credit that I have to use before the end of the year with NCL.

First time going on a cruise without our kids. Yay!!! We prefer an inside cabin because well, we are on a budget and like to apply the money to spa passes instead of the room category. Cleanliness and good food would be our other priorities. Ports of call really don't matter to us.

We love spending time in the Thermal Suite, as a couple using the Sauna, Steam Rooms, and Heated Loungers.  We spend a few hours there every day.  It would be important to us to be together and I couldn't tell for sure if some of the therapy rooms are all co-ed.

The only thing that we did not like about the Getaway thermal suite was that the waterfall on the therapy pool was very loud and located directly behind the heated loungers. For us, it affected the quiet, serenity that we like while reading or relaxing on the loungers.

I'm having a hard time finding pictures of the different ships with the layout of the thermal suite to see if they are set up like the Getaway. For the Dawn ship, I've read a few reviews that said sometimes the loungers are not working, so that would also be a consideration.

This is the pricing for the NYE cruise, all including the specialty dining offer:

    Dawn 2157
    Escape 2638
    Breakaway 2683
    Encore 3445

Can you help me choose the right ship based around our needs and the price value?

  6. If a lot of the activities, for instance digital scavenger hunt for the kids, require a device, what if you don't pay for wifi? My kids only have tablets and they don't have data.

Is it all thru the app or how do you partcipate in digital activities?

For the most part we are usually unplugged for our cruises so not sure how I feel about this.

  7. I realize the Edge hasn't sailed when school is out but in preparation for our spring break cruise I was hoping to take a look at the Fun Factory schedule.

I thought some of it used to be in the regular dailies but I'm not seeing any mention of youth activities in them?

  8. Sailing on the Edge March 10th.

Has anyone seen any open sports deck areas? On Solstice ships our tweens played a lot of basketball and the x club would use that area for events like dodgeball.

Im hoping we can find some open space for them to get some energy out!
