  1. Welcome home! Sounds like you had a great time. Maybe we'll meet up at Mayorga or at Saints Row sometime to compare notes. We did a similar itinerary in February, which included missing Coco Cay but with an extra overnight in Miami instead. Now the countdown is on to 7 nights to Bermuda in October. It will be our first time boarding as Diamond members. Can never get enough of cruising, which is why I enjoyed your review so much. Thanks for taking us all along for the ride!

This is about a mile down the road from Saints Row Brewery on Taft Street. Friends of ours own the brewery. They have made a nitro stout incorporating coffee from Mayorga. They don't always have it on tap, but if you are into coffee stouts, it's simply amazing!

Enjoy the coffee on your cruise. We have to wait 6 months until we board Lady G again.

  3. Posted similar question to another thread, but no response yet...Just wondering if you got a 4-night dining package, but there were 4 people who wanted to dine at Chops together on the same night, would the 4-night package cover 4 diners that singular evening, or does it in fact have to be for one individual person over 4 separate nights? Just curious. Thanks to anyone who may have insight for this situation!

  4. Similar topic, but another question: If you got a 4-night dining package, but had 4 people that wanted to go to Chops together all on the same evening, could you use the package for 4 individuals on the same night, or does it have to be for 1 individual person on each of 4 nights? I would think that since they are selling 4 dining experiences per package, this may be possible. It's not like the unlimited drink package where sharing is discouraged. But I don't know the fine print on this one. Any insight would be appreciated!

  5. ****Grandeur OTS – Tornado Tanya was due back from vacation on9/21/17 and as of 1/4/18 is still onboard. She is expected to be on Anthem in theSpring, after her vacation. If a cruisercould ask WHEN her vacation starts that will be wonderful and if she knows whowill take over from her on Grandeur.

Tanya will be departing Grandeur on February 10, 2018. We will be with her on that sailing. Looking forward to a grand time on Grandeur and more cheese jokes!

  6. I have been following this discussion. This morning I read an article that claimed that the Miami Herald ran an article which said that a RCL spokesperson says that this late return to Baltimore is due to 50 people becoming ill???

This is true. The Miami Herald article is here: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/article194336544.html It references an article in the Baltimore Sun, but completely leaves out the mechanical issue, and the real reason for the delay, reported there: http://www.baltimoresun.com/travel/bs-md-royal-caribbean-cruise-sick-20180111-story.html We're on Lady G on 1 February, and looking forward to a fantastic cruise!

  7. Harry,

Thanks for providing this e-mail address. I'd heard of others doing this and knowing who the scheduled entertainment was likely to be in advance of boarding, but I could never manage to find the contact information to try it myself. I've got a message drafted and will send it later this month in advance of our 1 February departure on Grandeur of the Seas out of Baltimore. Given the weather we've been having in the area lately and the forecast for Charleston, SC today, this may be the one cruise where I'm looking to be entertained on the ship rather than venture out into the open decks and simply watch the waves go by. Cross your fingers that our forecast is more favorable than for those that left on our same 9-day South East Coast and Bahamas itinerary yesterday!

Enjoying your trip reports immensely, as it's a way to see other ships in the fleet. Living just 45 minutes from the port in Baltimore, we've only ever been on Grandeur and Enchantment. Would like to see some of the bigger ships in person someday, but it's just too easy to get in the car and park it at the cruise terminal in our own back yard without having to worry about making flight connections, etc.

I eagerly await the next installment of this trip report, and the associated photos. Amazing!

Another thing you can request info from Royal as to learn who will be performers for your cruise. Email them at this email:

    web_reservations@rccl.com

This can be asked couple weeks prior to sailing so you can Google/YouTube the performers to see if their entertainment venue is what you like to hear. This is what I received from the Royal:

    +++++++++++++++++

We would be happy to provide more information on the planned entertainment for your upcoming sailing. Here is a list of our Headliner acts sorted by the night of the cruise they take place for.

    1) Heath Harmison, Comedian

    2) Production Show

    3) Revoiced, Acapella Group

    4) Derek Marshall, Comedy Hypnotist

    5) Act Not Specified

    6) Production Show

    7) Elisa Furr, Female Vocalist

    8) Production Show

    9) Louis Johnson, Comedian

Our Production Shows are as follows:

    Grease: The Musical

    Under The Big Top

    Center Stage

    Invitation To Dance

    Once Upon A Time

This is an estimate of our entertainment schedule and is subject to change. The most up-to-date information regarding entertainment can be found in your Cruise Compass once onboard, and at the Box Office.

  8. Also just found on that half-page Cruise Compass insert for Day 8: "2 Days at Sea Beverage Package. Make your day at sea even more relaxed and carefree with our special two-days-only drink package. Treat yourself to unlimited beers, cocktails and selected wines by the glass. Quench your thirst with unlimited bottle of water, juices, soda, and specialty coffee for only $110 +18% gratuity per person. Just ask your friendly bar staff in any of the bars for more information."

Turns out that we had some pretty rough weather on Day 8, so I'm not sure if what was in the Day 9 Compass had anything to do with that or not, but on Day 9, the half-page insert read: "Special Sea Day Beverage Package. Make your day at sea even more relaxed and carefree with our special one-day-only drink package. Treat yourself to unlimited beers, cocktails, and selected wines by the glass. Plus, quench your thirst with unlimited bottle of water, juices soda and specialty coffee for only $69 +18% gratuity per person. Just ask your friendly bar staff in any of the bars for more information."

I think that's the first time I recall seeing any type of beverage package like this, but then again, with our 2 wine bottles we brought on board, champagne at the Captain's reception, our buy-one-get-one offers with our C and A status, drinks at the top tier repeat cruisers party, winning beverages in the casino from raffle tickets on the C and A free spin machine, and losing about 30 hours of time due to rough seas on the evening of Day 7 and all of Day 8, our on-board bar bill this time totaled $20.06.

  9. Just got off Grandeur yesterday after a 9-night voyage to New England and Canada. The 10-drink ticket was first advertised in the Cruise Compass under the interior "Offers of the Day" on Day 4. The advertisement then made front page news in the Compass on Day 5. $79 + (18% gratuity added to your purchase). Available at any bar.

  10. Just got off Grandeur yesterday from a 9-night voyage to New England and Canada. The 10-drink cards were first advertised in the "Offers of the Day" interior section of the Cruise Compass for Day 4. On Day 5, the advertisement made it to the front page news. $79 + (18% gratuity added to your purchase). Available at any bar.

  11. Just off of Grandeur yesterday from a 9-night voyage to New England and Canada. The first 10-day drink card advertisement in the Cruise Compass showed up on the interior "Offers of the Day" section for Day 4, then made it's way to the front page news of the Compass for Day 5. They were selling them for $79 plus 18% gratuity, available at any bar.

  12. We stayed up late enough, midnight only, to cruise over the tunnel! Neat to see. It was so windy the upper decks were closed off so we looked from the pool area and it was very windy there too.

Crazy... Just as we walked outside, the Carnival Pride passed our ship soooo close. It was actually scary. I guess they know what they're doing but shocking to us. Didn't get a photo because it happened so fast.

As most of you know, the casino and shops were closed last night but they open today.

The captain just announced he was avoiding 2 storms now and it's rocky now. Not good for the mostly elderly crowd onboard or me too... Lol. The servers in the Windjammer were asking if anyone needed help. So very accommodating.

Btw, the piano player said that the ship had 32 ft. Waves for about 5 hrs last week.... Hmmmm... Did anyone hear this, I missed it?

Off to the CC, M&M... Ttyl.

We got off of Grandeur yesterday morning before you boarded. We had some pretty rough seas starting overnight Wednesday and all through Thursday. Can't confirm the 32 ft. waves referenced by the piano player as we spent the day in our interior cabin flat on our backs in the dark, but yes, it was rough going for the majority of the day on Thursday. Items slid off of the writing desk and out of the mirrored cabinets in our room. Heard stories of things crashing in the Windjammer galley as well. Friday dawned with plenty of sunshine and the return of smooth sailing though, so we got to enjoy our last full day aboard. Wishing you fair winds and following seas for the remainder of your voyage!

  13. On a cruise to the Southern Caribbean on Grandeur maybe 2-ish years ago, there was a group of dancers from a senior center in Baltimore who were sailing with us. A day or two into the cruise after we'd all been on the dance floor a few times, someone asked us if we were a part of the dance group...mind you, DH and I are in our mid 40's...we could only reply "Not yet," although I guess we could also have said that we're not from Baltimore. They were having a blast out there, though!

Would be delighted to join anyone on a dance cruise in the future, just let us know when you plan to go!

Verdict on Locomotion: enjoyable and danceable, even if the female singer was not the best we've ever heard. One night in the Centrum we were the only couple dancing, so the band just played stuff and had us dance to it. Danced my first tango in over a year that night - it's my least favorite dance. They have a really deep play list, and I think we heard them repeat only one song over 9 nights and both times Mustang Sally (west coast swing) was by request. Disappointed that they didn't know any salsa, but we got in fox trot, lots of rumba, waltz, foxy, night club 2-step, triple swing, hustle and several cha cha's that seemed to go on for an eternity. It was kind of like having your own private practice band that enjoyed watching you dance as much as you enjoyed dancing to their music. Got to talk to them a little bit last night as they were ending their last set of the cruise, and when we got off the ship this morning, we got a huge good-bye wave from the guitar player as we were waiting in the customs line. Would be happy to find them on our cruise to the Bahamas in February!

  14. That’s funny' date=' I was born and have lived my whole life in Ottawa, Canada right at the Quebec border - we pronounce them “pou-teen” here, LOL!

An authentic poutine is made with French fries, rich beef gravy and cheese curds, without all the fancy extras they put on them in some places! Enjoy!!

Back from our NE/Canadian run this morning, and happy to report that we had our first poutine ever from Willy's in Halifax: http://www.willysfreshcut.ca/ The place is literally a hole in the wall, you walk up and order from the sidewalk through an open window. The guys who work there were amazed that we'd never had poutine before and they assured us that theirs was at least above average. Our verdict: it was delicious. The next time, though, I may splurge for the additional cheese curds. Approximately 50% more curds on our medium sized serving to share would have made it even more delicious. Will be going back there any time we find ourselves in Halifax again for sure.

  15. Thanks Carol!! Good to know it's not just me :). Maybe we can find a dance group to join on a cruise sometime :)

  16. We only went to the Halifax port and didn't find any poutine. In fact the one person we asked didn't even seem to know what we were talking about so we gave up and ate pizza :)

I did hear if an amazing lobster special in Portland. A place called 'the porthole' where they had a 2/$25 steamed lobster special that were delicious, according to table mates.

Bummer about the poutine, but I will not let that deter me. My personal quest is even stronger now! Thanks for the intel on The Porthole. That sounds like a deal that is too good to pass up. Let's hope the special is still available in October. But even if it isn't, the first item listed on their lunch/dinner menu under sandwiches is the Porthole Lobster Roll. I can see leaving that establishment being very happy under any circumstance.

  17. Still looking for recommendations for the best poutine in the Canadian ports. Did you happen to try any of it yourself, or hear of anyone who did? We sail this itinerary 3 weeks from today and it's on my bucket list of things to do in places I've not been to yet.

Hope things don't get too rocky out there for you guys this evening. Maria is still packing a punch in the North Atlantic, with swells affecting much of the east coast of the United States, Atlantic Canada, and Bermuda. Try to relax and enjoy your final days at sea!

Thanks so much for posting impressions of your voyage. It's been fun to follow along!

  18. Thanks for all the posts so far. It looks like you are slowly but surely becoming a cruiseaholic. Don't worry, though. There are ways to treat that by booking your next cruise onboard so you have another one to look forward to while you're on shore leave! You must go to the Love and Marriage game show tonight. It's a riot and the couples chosen to participate will become minor celebrities on the ship tomorrow morning. Was wondering if they would do the Dancing with the Stripes on a 9-day sailing. The Hubs participated on our 12-night cruise in March and came in second place. We think he should have won, but his Gangnam Style must not have been what the judges were looking for in the finals. On that note, any thoughts about "Locomotion" in the Centrum, and do you happen to know if they will still be onboard in October? Thanks again and have a great day in CA!

  19. Any thoughts on how danceable Locomotion is and if they will still be onboard in October? We were on the Grandeur in March/April and heard Nexus 4. While they were a good band, they were hard to dance to, particularly when the drummer took over lead vocals - the tempo of the song they were playing would change inconsistently and made for a not-so-great dance experience with them. Hubs and I enjoy dancing, so want to know if we'll be spending our time in the Centrum sitting at the bar or actually out on the dance floor in October. Thanks for whatever feedback anyone has on the topic!
