  1. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to following your blog

I'm curious about the price and comparison with Crystal on your blog - did you really get the full Bali to Sydney back to back on Azamara for A$5,000 for both?

The Azamara site currently has the two cruises for A$3,979.19 and A$3,124.32 - so a total of A$7121.51 for an inside cabin - so A$5000 for both for 24 nights would be a real bargain.

I think your comparison with Crystal on your blog is actually comparing balcony cabins so the price would be a lot higher than that

You certainly wouldn't get 24 nights on Crystal for that price - the comparison of Azamara with Crystal isn't really like for like - I think most would rate Azamara as a 5.5 Star and Crystal as a 6 Star line

We booked back in mid september and both cruises came to $5055 for both cruises in an interior cabin as Azamara give a back to back discount of 500 off each segment when doing back to back. Then we chose to upgrade to a balcony when a promotion came up, which actually increased our cruise to 6,000 for both. So i will change that in the blog.

  4. Hello Silversea cruisers, our family are considering cruising on Silversea celebrating my parents silver anniversary. We're weighing up an asian cruise or a silver discoverer cruise to new zealand. My brother and I are 20 years old, I understand the formal policy on consuming alcohol is above 21. Is this strictly enforced or can our parents sign a waiver. As at home (Australia) we've been drinking for over 2 years and the waters we'd be sailing in would have us legal to drink also. Thanks for your help silver cruisers.

  5. I work at the Sydney cruise ship terminals and i have worked with every cruise ship company. I stress that you don't travel with a prepaid travel card or currency card. It does not have your name on it and thus cannot be processed. If you wish to use such cards, you will have to withdraw the money from the card from the onboard ATM or at the purser with a hefty fee. Also you can register a credit card and the ship company will take an initial preauthorisation usually of so much per day and it varies by company and duration of the cruise. Also each company has different credit card fees. Its easiest and hassle free to register a credit card or debit card. For Cash you will need to see the onboard purser. For Seabourn this is all different, you can register any card, you can put nothing down and pay at the end in seabourn square.

    Sailed:

Carnival Spirit 2014 - South Pacific

    Diamond Princess 2013 - Tasmania

Sea Princess 2012 - New Zealand

Radiance of the Seas 2012 - New Zealand

  6. I have searched but really can't find a great deal of info on CC about Carnival Spirit in Australia.

I've only cruised once, last February on the Radiance. I loved it so much my daughter and I booked a cheap deal on Carnival Spirit for next month.

My question is can anyone explain why Carnival offers nothing here is Australia compared to their American sailings? They seem to be from a different planet. No alcohol packages, no free room service, nothing you seem to be able to pre purchase before sailing. Are we second class citizens or something?

I plan on enjoying my cruise.....no bed making or cooking for ten nights so nothing can be THAT bad but their pre cruise service plus useless website and lack of on board stuff is a niggle.

    Any thoughts or answers appreciated.

    Jenny

  7. Tuesday the 26th of November marks the 10th anniversary of the arrival of the Star Princess in Sydney in 2003. This was one of the largest ships to be based in sydney, despite its short season here. The ship was met by hundreds of thousands of sydney siders and left with fireworks. It meant that sydney was no longer the stop over for the qe2 or oriana but it was a destination to base ships. The Star princess is a super liner and dwarfed anything that had ever been based in sydney. It was the of a big decade in cruise ships based in australia. Now we have the sister diamond princess and the huge voyager of the seas based in sydney. In reflecting on this decade it would be great to see how the next decade pans out.
