  1. Location and cabin size, if you wish the bigger room and balcony choose B2 or B3. B1 are small rooms and small balconies.

Be sure to look at the deck plan carefully. I have B2 cabin 12154 booked and it appears to be a smaller cabin and balcony. The identical location on decks 11 and below are B1. I'm assuming the category difference is due to the fact that deck 12 is only 2 decks away from the action and the lower decks are 3 or more.

  2. We had our wedding on the Carnival Pride last month on embarkation day at the port of Baltimore. Carnival contracts with a private wedding planning company. The information they provide you is all geared towards straight weddings by way of suggested ceremony, vows and music. We opted to write our own ceremony and provided our own music and they were very accommodating. The officiant they provided (you can bring your own) was very nice and we were her first same sex wedding. We did the 1.5 hour reception and we and our guests were impressed. Kudos to all the Carnival and wedding planning staff for making it a special day and week aboard the cruise.

  3. Partner and I will be getting married on Jan. 19 Aboard the Carnival Pride while in the port of Baltimore. Between RCI and Carnival in Baltimore, RCI's website said they were not doing same sex marriages at this time. Carnival has much better wedding package prices anyway and reviews of their weddings have been glowing. The package ceremonies are designed for str8 weddings but have been accommodating in customizing it for us. 37 guests, 12 of which will sail with us. Fingers crossed, all will go well!

FYI, Carnival will no longer have cruises from Balt. as of this Oct., 2014

  4. There is a small memorial in Dubrovnik to Ronald Brown, located close to the front entrance of our Cathedral also, try not to miss it. The actual crash site is located much closer to Cavtat which is a 20 minute drive south of Dubrovnik. You would need to hire a taxi to drive you the entire distance as the actual memorial is rather high up the mountain. I would guess that it is about a 30 minute drive and you should negotiate the round trip fare with the driver. A very rough estimate is between 300 to 400 Kuna for the trip. If you have time, let me find out from one of my taxi driver friends, I will post it later. Hmm, you have just given me an new subject for my blog.

Thank you for asking about this, regardless of anyone's political preferences, the loss of American lives that day was a huge tragedy.

Thanks so much for the info! If it's not too much trouble, please do check with your taxi driver friend. I'll be there on Jul 26 for a short port call. Rob

  5. Dubrovniktravellady, back in 1996, then US Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and 35 others on a trade mission perished in a plane crash on approach to Dubrovnik. A memorial consisting of a large steel cross was placed at the site of the crash on St. John's (Sveti Ivan) mountain. Is it difficult to reach this memorial or can it at least be seen from a distance somewhere Dubrovnik? Not your usual question but it has personal meaning to me. Thanks! Rob

  6. I am very jealous of your cruise! I am trying very hard to get my mom to do this ship... possibly in two separate solo cabins for August but even after hearing my rave review... she's stand offish! I may just go on my graduation cruise by myself!:D:rolleyes:

I love the Epic! Kudos for doing a trans-Atlantic so you will at least get to see all the entertainment. With all the ports I missed so much of the entertainment options but what good cruising boils down to is making lasting friendships and that mission was accomplished! (Oh yeah, and a fabulous White Hot Party!!!!) :D

My partner and I were on the maiden TA last year in June. 7 days nonstop Southampton to NYC which provided ample time to fully experience the ship. The exception was the outdoor decks as the weather was windy, cold and foggy for 5 of the 7 days which kept many events indoors that would normally have taken place at Spice H2O. Sounds like from your review that they have tuned up the activities since our voyage. The FOD was in Bliss during the late afternoon/early evening and we had the place to ourselves for the most part. Unlike the crowds at Shakers. Despite the glitches here and there that are to be expected on an inaugural, we enjoyed our time on the Epic.

  7. I agree. Take a shared shuttle from LAX to San Pedro for $17-18/person, will take you at most 2 hours (less if you have no other stops between the airport and the port). If you try to take public transportation you will go way out of your way, through some fairly dicey areas of LA, and it will probably take you 3-4 hours using Metrorail. You could actually take a city bus too, but public transportation in SoCal sucks. Don't get your vacation off to a bad start just to save a couple of dollars.

Still think Super Shuttle's Execucar Business Express is the best way to go......private minivan and nonstop. To elaborate on the cost, it is $48 total for the minivan whether you have 1 person or up to 5 people. On a Friday afternoon around 1:30 pm, we were in San Pedro in 25 minutes.

  8. What is the best shuttle service from Lax-San Pedro cruise terminal? I have heard that Prime Time & Super Shuttle are around $16.00 pp plus tip each way and could be 2 hrs. either to the ship or from ship back to Lax. I checked out Airport Express which is about the same price but they claim they are non-stop from Lax-San Pedro or vice versa. What are the pros and cons of these three services? Truegrit

If by Airport Express you mean Execucar Business Express (a division of Super Shuttle and bookable on the Super Shuttle website) then I highly recommend them. Used them last week roundtrip from LAX to the San Pedro Crowne Plaza. The fare came to $16 pp each for 3 of us each way plus tip (must be booked and paid in advance).

Upon landing at LAX, I turned on my cellphone while taxiing in and a minute later the phone rang. It was the driver asking if we had arrived yet and to call him on his cell phone when we claim our luggage. We did so and he picked us up curbside within minutes. No waiting around for others like the other shuttles and we arrived at the hotel within 25 minutes (little traffic on a Saturday). On the return trip, the driver was there (shuttle departure spot) 10 minutes before our designated pick up time. Again, just us and nonstop to LAX in 20 minutes (again little traffic on a Sat. morning). We watched while other folks lined up and were crammed into Super Shuttle and Primetime vans. Execucar uses mini-vans and was very comfortable with air-conditioning controls overhead.

Don't understand how this service was at a price less than the other shuttles ($17) but it was fantastic!

  9. Thank you so much for the info. Will send my certificate in this weekend. I guess the worst thing that could happen would be for them to refuse to use it on this cruise and I'd have to book another by the end of January! How awful that would be!!

    Thanks again,

    Sandra

My TA e-mailed me late today and said NCL applied the $500 to my booking and they would be processing a refund to my credit card.

  10. Hi everyone,

Please forgive me if this has been answered recently, but has anyone had the $500 certificate credited back to their credit card after the final payment has been made? I'm looking to book an October cruise so the full payment will be due at booking. I will try and call the 800 # in the next day or so and ask them, but maybe some of you have the answer.

    Thanks for your help,

    Sandra

I did this last year with no problems. Just this past Monday I e-mailed my last $500 certificate info for a cruise in October that I booked last week and paid in full. Got an e-mail from NCL 2 days later (yesterday) stating that my certificate has been applied to my booking. Fingers crossed, the credit should appear on my credit card shortly. It can take a couple of days or so for the credit to appear so I'm keeping an eye on my account on-line.
