  1. We have been on NeoRomantica last year and there was ONLY open seating.

As we normally eat early, we went to the Dining room at 7pm (when it opened) and never had to wait.

When we left the Dining room around 8:30 pm there was a Long queue.

So I guess it really depends what time you're going.

  2. Thank you for all that information. We're going to cruise on MSC Splendida for the 1st time in June and also habe the Cheers drink-package included.

We were already wondering how it would work with 'free drinks during the meal times' but what you wrote sounds very relaxed and no need to buy another expensive drink-package.

  3. Thank you all for your Information. I think I'll try the laundry Service on my next cruise!

@AmoMondo: I know what you mean about clothes become tighter. That's not what I'm worried about. We're on Holiday, so supposed to have a great time :D

@Skier52: Aaaah, I'm jealous! Do have a wonderful cruise!!

@tsahall01: Great to know that I don't have to wait until I have 20 pieces of laundry. This way I still can try 2-3 pieces and check afterwards, before I have the next items cleaned ;)

  4. I've done 4 cruises so far but never dared to use the ships laundry service. I'm worried the clothes would shrink in the dryer (at home I don't put jeans or nice shirts in the dryer).

I'm sure many of you have made experience with laundry service. Can you recommend it or are my concerns legitimate?

Thank you for your thoughts ☺

  5. we also heard that. Friends told us that when visiting Norway it was not unusual to pay 12 to 15 dollars for a cup of coffee. I don't see our cruise on the roll call, how do you start a roll call for your cruise? MA

That sounds like what I have heard too. These guys paid about 70 Dollars for two pizzas!!

I honestly have no idea how to start a roll call, but I'm sure there are plenty of other helpful people here.

  6. One thing we found out: unless you're really starving or want to try norwegian food, don't eat in the ports. We spoke to two other couples during dinner who told us they paid horrendous prices for a bowl of soup or a pizza

  7. we will be going out of Rotterdam but will be stopping in Flam so will take your advice and book thru the cruise. Can you tell me who you used and what you did in Alesund and geiranger? Appreciate all of your help Netty.

    Sooo, here we are:

In Geiranger we had booked one excursion (Fjord Tour on a small boat) online via http://www.geirangerfjord.no/SHORE-EXCURSIONS-3-3

After arriving in the port we went to the tourist information and booked another tour (Bus trip up the Eagle Road) and my boyfriend even booked a helicopter flight there (I get sick very easy, so I decided to skip that ;)).

In Alesund we took the Hop-on-hop-off bus, did a whole tour through the city and on the second round, got off on Mt. Aksla, from where you have a wonderful view above the city and the fjord.

After that we just wandered through the town back to the ship.

Hope this helps a bit ;)

I'm away for the weekend and have all the papers and links at home. I'll send them to you on Monday.

    You're very welcome!

  9. We did the ships tours in Eidfjord, because we couldn't find any local tours and in Flam. We wanted to go on the Flam Railway and it wasn't possible to book tickets in advance (only for groups). So we decided better book the expensive tour via Holland America, than ending up in Flam with no excursion at all. For both ports we don't regret it. The excursions were worth the money.

In Geiranger, Alesund and Stavanger we booked excursions with local providers.

  10. thanks for the encouragement. will be going on the Rotterdam, out of Rotterdam on Aug. 2, 2014 on the 14 day Norwegian fjords. Anyone been on that ship or that cruise?

What ports are you going to? We did a cruise on the Rotterdam to the Norwegian Fjords last May and loved every minute of it.

Went to see Bergen, Alesund, Geiranger, Eidfjord, Stavanger, Kristiansand, Oslo and Flam.

The Rotterdam is a lovely, not too big ship, the crew was amazing and the food just too good ;-)

If you have any specific questions, just ask. (Sorry about my bad English... I'm from Germany)

  11. Appreciate your nice and kind comments. Good luck on your upcoming cruise. Let me know any added questions or needs for any of these ports. My mother's maiden name is Goeckerman with a solid 100% German background. Happy to help more, especially for someone from Germany!!

    THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Celebrity Solstice Visual Highlights? From our June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in France, Italy, Kotor and Dubrovnik, I have pull together a number of wonderful visuals of the Solstice, its features, food, entertainment, options, etc. We are now at 2,536 views for this shorter version started late last week of my larger full review of that cruise and all of the port pictures/details. Check these postings and added info at:

Thank you Terry! I "worked" through the whole thread last night and got even more excited when I saw all the pictures :)

We won't get as far north as you have been, only the south and west of Norway but still looking forward to see the Fjords and little wooden houses...

Awww, do you know from which part of Germany your ancestors were?
