Not to be the party pooper here with all this Maasdam love going around but we were on her March 2016 for an 11 day cruise and she had some air and plumbing issues. We were told that she has been sold and that may have accelerated repairs. Not sure if the problems are/were fixed, but assume they may have since many have said she's fine now. She is an old HAL ship and while regular maintenance can head off many problems, they can occur. It would have to be a very special cruise for us to go back on her.

My husband and I were on the Maasdam on the trans-pacific run from 1/29 to 2/22/17. It was our first HAL cruise. We found the ship, including food and lodging, to be comfortable and delicious, with the exception of the coffee, which was the worst we ever experienced. The staff was exceptional. The entertainment, however, left a lot to be desired. While some of the entertainment was excellent, most was boring and high-schoolish. The house entertainment group was talented, but not for the type of entertainment they provided. We would, however, definitely cruise on the Maasdam again.

I don't believe they are located at the pier but they will meet you there (at the port entrance). That's where we're picking up our car - we are also dropping it off there - a representative will meet us at the pier for both pick up and drop off.

Have reserved a car thru Leisure Car Rental for our cruise in April. I've noticed several threads on car rentals and have done a general search online for car rentals in St. Martin, including all the local companies there, but don't see this company listed anywhere.

There was one reccommend from another poster but has anyone else ever heard of or used this company before???

I was just checking on tripadvisor.com regarding Leisure car rental in St. Maarten - mostly very good reviews - seems to be one of the few companies that offer NO DEDUCTABLE insurance coverage and they will come to the port for an additional $30 - NO DEDUCTABLE INSURANCE (COLLISION) CAN BE ADDED FOR $20 AND NO DEDUCTABLE LIABILITY IS $10. I'm planning on using them on our November 2013 cruise stop in St Maarten. Afterwards, I'll post the results....
