  1. After our journey last week, Clearwater Beach is super easy to get to from St. George’s. The #6 bus (via Clearwater) was timely and clearly marked. It picked up on the hour from the bus stop at the beach and takes about 20-25 minutes to get To and from St. George’s.

The beach has a bar (food counter and drinks), and clean restrooms with outdoor showers. A private individual and Gombeys Bar rents umbrellas, chairs and loungers for $45 (2 chairs and umbrella). The beach is spectacular, the water is calm and shallow and it is mostly locals. A short walk from the beach is Coopers Island Reserve which is more secluded (no amenities).

You can also watch some spectacular take offs from the airport.

I hope this helps everyone make their plans to and from Clearwater Beach. You won’t be disappointed.

  2. The bus schedule has the Route #6 travel time for St George's <> St David's as 25 minutes.

Your right - I was thinking the ferry schedule. Thanks for clarifying!

  3. In contacting the Visitor Center in St. George and the owner of the Gombey’s Beach Bar its a nice area with amenities (chairs, SUP, kayaks). This issue I keep running into is it is apparently from their comment very hard to get a taxi to come back and get you from the beach to St. George’s; and the bus has limited service from St. George’s to Clearwater (see Route #6 via Clearwater). I guess the option is pre-arrange a return with your taxi or use the bus as back up ensuring you have enough time to make the last ferry for the day from St. George’s to the dockyard. I understand the bus to the beach from St. George’s take about an hour.

  4. I posted the dailies in a separate post today. I had to put them in a Google Drive folder as they wouldn't upload. I also couldn't get my scanner to double side scan so the fronts and backs are in separate files.

Would you have the link to share for the dailies? It would be most appreciated. Thank you.

  5. Have you used Nationwide insurance and had any experience with submitting a claim? I am weighing travel insurance options. I would appreciate any feedback in particular with claim response. One hopes they never need to use it but it's better to be safe and educated than sorry.

    Thank you!

We got a good quote and a great plan through John Hancock Insurance. We are 30-something’s with good health but want coverage for changes in itinerary during hurricane season. They also include “Cancel for Any Reason. “

  6. Clearwater is beautiful and clean! There are no big waves so it’s a very relaxing.

There are 2 outfits renting chairs and umbrellas. We rented from the Bermuda Triangle Experience. It was $35 for two chairs and 1 umbrella. The nice young man dragged our chairs away from the very small crowd already there. There were less than 100 people on the whole beach including the 2 local daycamps. Once tourists arrived, the women running the camps actually moved their kids way down the beach away from us. There was no need to do so, but that’s kinda the Bermuda way.

The beach bar had amazing drinks and food. I couldn’t eat anything there (news gluten free food) but my fellow travelers LOVED everything.

There is a brand new bathhouse with toilets. Outside showers with good water pressure.

There is a large grassy park with a nice playground. You can walk across the park to Turtle Bay Beach (no turtles that day). Or down a bit further to access the Nature Reserve. We spent the whole day in the water and on the playground.

Thanks this is all very helpful. I think a Clearwater Beach experience is worth any hassle in getting transport back to St. George’s. We’ll make a day of decision if we plan to go out to Clearwater (and get a taxi/ferry or bus/ferry back) or make alternative beach plans.

  7. We took the ferry last week and then fought (yes fought) for a taxi at the square. We arranged for the taxi to come back and get us (party of 7) but he never showed! There were some shuttles running but were unmarked and until we asked one driver we were scrambling to get a ride back. We thought they were ship excursion transportation. The one driver we asked agreed to being us back as he was afraid we’d miss the ferry.

The bartender did call a taxi for us, but couldn’t get one because of the size of our party.

We made it back with an hour plus to spare (last public ferry at 5:45pm) but all the shops closed earlier than posted (5pm but were closed by 4) and we just sat around for an hour waiting.

Thanks - this is helpful. And that is our main concern, the scramble to get a ride back to St. George’s. We will only be a party of 2 and hope we can arrange a taxi to come back and get us. I know there is a bus (runs every hour) that will be our last resort.

What was your impression of the beach/facilities/amenities? Did they have any rentals (chairs, paddle boards, umbrellas)?

  8. Has anyone recently (summer 2018) traveled to Clearwater Beach? What is the best method to go to and from St. George’s to the beach? I know we will ferry to St. George’s but can’t confirm if there is a mini bus to the beach? Or if we should take a taxi or the regular #6 bus.

    Thanks!

  9. Daniels Head Beach (Somerset area; 15 mins by can from the Dockyard) has a great SUP rental shop, SurfSUP Bermuda. The owner Larry is very friendly and responsive via email, he will even call you a cab after your SUP adventure back to the ship.

SurfSUP is on Facebook and has a website; they also take reservations. My wife and I used last summer, it was great and have a reservation again this summer in 2 weeks.

Daniels Head Beach is part of a turtle sanctuary, on the SUP you will see the sea turtles up close; the bay is calm and easy for beginners.
