Thank you for the review, it is definitely a good read to prepare for our cruise in late July (same ship)!

I also have couple questions -

    How full was the ship?

Also, when was your boarding time? I was just slotted to a 12:40 boarding time (Group C), so I'm not sure if it's the last group to board.

Hello, to answer your question our boarding time was 12:40 also however we arrived at 11:15 and had no problems boarding. I had asked and was told the ship had 1500 passengers out of 2600 capacity.

Does anyone else experience the "spinning circle" at the top of the Holland webpage when you are trying to do things like book excursions?  It essentially locks up the site until it finally decides to go away.  I've been on for about 15 minutes and it's still there.  Very annoying.

Windows 11 and current version of Firefox.

    Hello,

We have the same problem. On our older iPad the problem seems worse than on our newer iPad. It may be the site requires more updated software to work properly, just our observation.

Anybody out there ever been offered a free cabin on select cruises? I go to the casino every night I am on a cruise so I have been given casino discounts added to my cruise fare but now, for the first time, I received an offer for a free cabin. Has anyone ever taken advantage of this? I had my TA look into 2 of the cruises offered and learned there were no more cabins available on either for that casino promo but HAL offered other cabins at a discount...not free. Does one have to act immediately to actually score the free cabin?

This is new territory for me so I would appreciate any advice.

I have cruised with HAL a lot and I know they are famous for nickeling and diming so when I see the word "free" I take it with a grain of sea salt.

    Hello,

We get the offers all the time and like you were unsure of what to expect on availability. We decided to act on the last one and booked a free balcony to Alaska in May. The fee was $268 per person for port fees and taxes plus additional $250 each for deposit which will be returned as room credit. I was told by my TA that they don’t make really anything on these promotions (pretty much saying to book direct with the cruise line 😀) hope this helps.

  4. I think Azamara is making a mistake with their compensation and refund policy.

Due to their lack of communication over the past week, they caused their customers anxiety and played with their emotions.

I for one will probably look at the other cruise lines in the future that stepped up and were upfront to there customers with their communication and policies. I will be glad to receive a refund but will not accept a FCC. I feel they should also provide a 25% FCC along with the refund for two reasons. To provide compensation for their poor communication especially for those who were only a week out to cruise and it would also kickstart the cruise line when they restart normal cruises.

    Just my thoughts.

Please try to remember that Azamara maybe doesn’t have the personnel resources to cancel all at once.  Once everything is cancelled, everyone will be expecting their refund yesterday.

Azamara seems to be playing the lets see who blinks first game. It seems their strategy is to give out as many FCC rather than giving refunds. In turn playing with peoples emotions and creating anxiety for them. This is not what you do if you’re looking out for your customers.

If they were truthful and upfront from the start, people would have understood about the time needed to process refunds.

The employees are all under months-long contracts, so I assume they will be paid regardless.

BTW, back in the 90s when I was working in the aerospace business, I was traveling several times a year to ELCAN up in Midland. Drove right thru Barrie on the 400.

You probably wouldn’t recognize it today. It’s changed a lot since then.

We understand the uncertainty surrounding global travel and are vigilantly monitoring the situation.  Each morning and throughout the day our executive team reviews daily updates from the CDC, WHO, as well as local port authorities. Unfortunately, the situation continues to evolve and remains highly fluid.

We are communicating directly with impacted guests and travel advisors and frequently updating our travel advisory with the most up-to-date information. Please visit https://www.azamara.com/travel-advisory for the latest travel alerts and regulations.

To ensure our guests’ confidence and flexibility, we implemented a Cruise with Confidence policy and enhanced the CruiseCare travel insurance program to protect guests currently booked or looking to book future sailings. Protecting the health and safety of our guests and crew is our number one priority and we’ll ensure that any itinerary adjustments are handled stress-free.

For additional questions regarding an existing booking, please contact us via our call-center (1-855-AZAMARA) or contact your travel advisor. Guests looking to learn more about CruiseCare may contact our CruiseCare Help Line at 1-877-538-3816or 1-516-342-7262.

This information as information on the Azamara website is not new. No disrespect but saying something repeatedly is like saying nothing at all.

We all have booked and planned our trips months in advance and shouldn’t have to wait till the last moment to know where we are going or not.

If other cruise lines can forecast and cancel cruises 60 days out why is it taking so long for Azamara to make a decision on cruises 2 weeks from now?

Gary, I sure hope Azamara can do better for you -- Princess is doing much, much more for their passengers. Check the amounts for each sailing date their passengers are being compensated.

I for one would be happy to come out of this at 100%.

I have never cruised with Azamara and not sure if I will do so in the future based on their actions as of today.

A 25% future cruise credit might entice me to book a future cruise but we will see.

I will get through this as most of us will but I would rather the cruise companies give the money to the employees who need it. How the cruise lines treat their employees during this difficult time is where I’ll be spending my future cruise money.

    Hi Ron:

I'm on your cruise Dubai-Athens next April. Another option might be to request Azamara if you could disembark in Heraklion on the last full day of the cruise. There are afternoon and evening "puddle-jumper" flights from Heraklion to Athens, which would allow you to enjoy the day in Crete and get to Athens airport the night before your Tel Aviv connection. To me, trading the last night on Journey for an extra day in Israel would be worth it.

    Henry

    Hello Henry,

I had thought of that, and may consider it. I also thought I might stay over in Athens then take the morning flight to tTel Aviv. I would then rent a car to get us around a bit quicker, especially over to the Dead Sea. It’s a nice problem to have...lol.

    Thanks for your insight Henry.

I was going to say that flying into Israel, the airplane boarding security hassles will be really onerous.  Glad that you decided to change.

Apropos of nothing, how long before takeoff did your airline say you had to be at the airport?

    DON

Haven’t booked yet, still looking into it. I will definitely check to see when we need to be there before flight.

    Thanks for the tip Don

Not really.  European clearance for flights to Israel will probably require you to be at the airport 2 hours before departure so that would be 0810.  Travel time to the airport is 30-45 minutes and traffic at that time is bad.  As I said before, there is no guarantee embarkation will start before 8.  I have twice come into Athens (Piraeus) and both times disembarkation was did not start until well after 8

    Thanks for the additional information.

It looks like we will spend the day in Athens and take the later flight.

    Thanks again!

  12. Thanks for the input, It seems unanimous. I would normally never consider such tight timelines but we are flying to Tel Aviv. There are 2 flights daily 10:10am and 10:30pm. One is too early and the other is too late.

I was thinking of spending the night at the port and going the following day but then we loose a day in Israel.

The ship is in Crete the day before so it should be on time into Athens. We plan on carrying our own luggage off the ship and taking a taxi to the airport.

Does any of this new information make a difference?
