  1. I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on Panorama Dec 28,2019 sailing.

We've never done anything very exciting for the holidays and a brand new ship is hard to resist, especially bringing our kids. Debating  ocean view versus cove balcony since it's  a difference of $200.  Just so excited to not be home and working over the kid's  school break!

  2. I'm fairly certain that if you win an upsell bid, you lose say in forward, mid, aft. Can you find out where the mini suite is then accept or decline (like if its over a nightclub,or far from where you want to be, for example?) or is it if you "win" you must take?

We did an upsell on Pearl to aft penthouse but I was ok with whatever deck. Sailed Escape but the upsells were done differently and it would have been much higher,so we didnt try...

  3. Ahhh....finally a reason to be excited following the thread! Booked the Bliss for August 2019 Alaska with the kids...woot! We did adults only on the Pearl a few years ago and ended up upselling to an aft suite. I suspect Bliss upsells will run like Escape, so we went with the balcony from the beginning. This looks like a beautiful ship that will keep all occupied and happy...

  4. Just sailed Carnival for the first time in August on the Miracle. I had apprehensions after teying to compare the other lines I sailed but quickly realized it a lot about negative preconceived notions. The bed was super comfy. The bartenders and servers were fun. We chatted with many people we met on board and had a great time. Only "negative" was repetative dining options, but I probably gained weight like I always do! Value for the money we paid was great in my eyes. Will consider again, especially when it means affording a 2nd cruise in 6 months- something we've never done before.

  5. As a same sex couple, I would find it awkward if we were seated with people who " didn't approve" of our life. When we travel with our kids, I really enjoy our family time at meals, since it happens so seldom during the year because of schedules.

I do enjoy meeting and chatting with new people on vacation, so if asked to meet up for dinner after chatting comfortably, I could do that.

  6. Update: Our travel mates didn't want to use FTTF to disembark,as it was a 7am meet up and they thought that was too early. ( Which, instead "allowed" us to snake off with the masses- something I got to point out that I would rather have breezed off and sat at the airport rather than cattle off the ship) We still ended up off the ship by 845 and had plenty of time to sit at LGB. I never felt under clock pressure and would use that earlier flight without hesitation again

    Thanks all for the advice!

  7. You should be fine. Which cruise? If it's a regular week long cruise you should be fine. In May Diamond self assist was off at 8:18, followed by the other Priority self assist debarkation. All off is around 10 am.

Taxi is $30?$38? Flat. Just to the left as you exist the Dome.

Thanks for information! First time sailing out of this port and first time on Carnival, so I appreciate any tidbits of info! We're on the Miracle 7 night sailing this coming Saturday. It's early enough in the day that if we (hypothetically) missed the plane we have plenty of time to figure out "Plan B".

  8. Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if I can get an idea as to what time you've been able to disembark the Miracle in Long Beach the last few weeks or so? Our plan is to walk off early with our own luggage and no kids to slow us down :)

We do have FTTF and I'm pretty sure that helps. We have a 10:50 flight out of LGB that I felt confident about after researching here and other cruise site. (It was that or waiting until 6pm for a nonstop) . Still not worried, but debating guesstimating setting up an Uber versus just jumping in a taxi once we're off the ship. I know the airport is a stone's throw....

    Thanks for any info!

  9. Truly a sad situation for all involved. Condolences to family and support to the crew and witnesses. I am impressed they were able to recover him ,as I don't think that happens very often. We recently sailed the Escape and while strolling on deck 7 one night, I actually commented I got a bit intimidated by the speed the water was rushing by and stepped back from the rail . Seems to me I've read about several in the last 6 months or so. While anyone who cruises realizes you don't just fall, its hard to convince non cruisers of that.

  10. Enjoying your review very much! We were on the same sailing and had a wonderful week! I truly didn't expect my girls to love their respective clubs as much as they did but they really spent the majority of the time on ship with their new friends. I never played golf, as the area always seemed like chaos. Kids and wife loved the ropes course but admittedly I was more nervous than I thought I would be! LOL...in my defense, still recovering from 4 foot surgeries this Winter and I'm still in healing mode so I'm nervous to do something dumb to aggravate anything.

We adults frequently walked around the ship, burning calories. A few times I would have liked to sit for a few minutes out on those comfy couches, but yes, they were generally filled with people catching flies!? I assumed they likely had inside staterooms. The one night we finally found an open seating area to watch the sunset but it turned into a dud. Bummer.

I'm not a very good review writer, but I will say my family had a blast this sailing and we would consider sailing the Escape again for sure!

  11. I wanted to Thank Nancy and especially JW for arranging the Meet and Greet and slot pull. Your little talk about not taking issues home with you but taking them to the right person definitely changed our whole cruise. From a trip that would not happen again with NCL our opinions have changed and we are looking at another cruise in the near future. Again a HUGE Thank You

I thought of that the last morning on board. I was standing in a not so bad line at guest services, as I stupidly packed my keycard in my suitcase. There was a guest in front of me who took service charges off for 5 people. I couldn't hear the whole conversation, but I did wonder if there were things he wasn't happy with or if he was just cutting his expenses. Body language of the woman behind the desk told me she didn't seem thrilled by his request.

I had ZERO complaints to address all week, but know from my sailing on the Pearl that the hotel director himself jumped on a problem we had with our aft balcony door. We met him at the M & G and he knew us for sure.

Our room steward on this sailing was hands down the best I've ever had on any sailing, any line we've used. MY family had an amazing week on the Escape!

  12. We didn't have problems finding chairs on the March 25th sailing. However, my Irish pasty self got burned in Tortola so after that I preferred shade over sun! We didn't use the pools, so it wasn't a priority to be close to them. Cruise ship pools are generally sardine cans, so we always do pre-cruise days at a resort ( this time, we rented a house) so the girls can get their swim on all day long before boarding. Much more relaxing!

  13. We are booked on the Miracle this coming August as our first Carnival sailing. Decided it was a perfect opportunity to finally sail them and see for ourselves how we feel about the line. The fact that it doesn't have all the proverbial bells and whistles some of the other ships we've sailed is fine by us- the kids aren't going on this sailing :D. Most reviews I read here on CC make me very comfortable with the Miracle.

We were originally booked on the Allure of the Seas w/ balcony. Combined with airfare across the country, we were looking at $3100. The Miracle, with a balcony, plus a quick flight down to LGB, is a steal at $1900.

Very much looking forward to what will likely be a great week on the Miracle for us!

  14. My partner and I celebrated our 20 year anniversary last year on the breakaway. We loved it and are headed for the Escape on March 25. We had no issues and found NCL to be safe and friendly. Our room steward moved the beds together and treated us very well.

LOL....Hi there! My wife and I (along with our two daughters) are on the Escape 3/25 sailing as well! Saw you on the Roll Call and admittedly wondered if I would find you on this board as well! Glad to see we aren't alone :)

We also sailed NCL for the first time in '15 on the Pearl to Alaska. It was a super special first big vacation without the kids! We didn't have anything even remotely negative happen. To the contrary, if anything I felt like maybe being a same sex couple made us easier to remember!? Every staff member we ran into was pleasant and helpful. We went to O'Sheehans several days apart, and were really impressed by the hostess greeting us by our first names the second time. Though we're not super social, we got to be good "cruise week friends" with a few people that we spent some time with here and there after meeting at the Meet & Greet. It was a very eclectic bunch!

Totally assuming our Escape sailing will be as much of a blast! If anyone has a problem with our boring existence living our " two moms gay agenda life".... it speaks more about them than us :*

  15. After swearing 2018 was going to be the year we skip a big vacation to get some projects done around the house, a friend of mine tells me he's looking to get a group for Bliss in late June '18 for Alaska. Wife and I are torn...would LOVE to sail the Bliss and compare our Alaska experience on the Pearl. Would have to take our daughters, as they were pretty excited when we showed them pics from the other sailing.

Advantage is just needing to shoot up to Seattle for us. Still looking at a decent chunk of change,though..so we shall see just how pricing pans out with group rates. Love the idea of a ship that still has "new car smell"

  16. Interesting, because from the video it certainly looks like the ship is closing in. However, the pics of their property on the linked article appear that theres quite a bit more space between dock and water deep enough that we didn't see the bulbous bow .

Perhaps the "drama" lies more in the angle of the video?

  17. Lol...Had the same laugh as several others about the silliness of the man's reactions. Second thought was "why do people filming interesting things ruin viewing with stupid commentary ( or worse ,singing along at a concert!)

Personally, I would love to live there. However, after watching Carnival Vista's tsunami wave damage in Italy and the Infinity squishing the dock in Alaska last year, I think it's safe to safety I wouldn't have continued standing there..;p

  18. Yes. My dream aft balcony stateroom on the Pearl Alaska sailing was diminished a bit because smokers frequently congregated right below us and the smell wafted. We found it unpleasant.

Shouldn't have to pay more ,but I guess we would weight the premium.

Can anyone tell me what happened if people were caught on the Paradise smoking? Were they taken off the ship or just wrist slapped? Seems hard to control short of guests turning other people in..

  19. Sorry if it's a stupid question- but curious if anyone thinks trip insurance would cover it if you found out this was what you were sailing on right before you embarked? Or if the noise was really bad and you decided you couldn't relax and wanted to leave the ship and fly home? Is that all on you, the traveler or any responsibility on the line for not delivering a whole product?
