I did do search but found nothing.  It should be noted this is not a back to back cruise.  This is in the middle of cruise from Rome to Athens so not a transition day.  But thanks for replying.

As said previously, this cruise is 1 leg of viking's cruise from Barcelona to Istanbul, so many people will be departing or boarding in Rome & Venice. Italian sojourn starts in Rome and ends in Venice, while other cruises are longer.

I just got off the Sirena PC cruise on 3/17.  Home late that night.  Still struggling with diarrhea.  Finally went to ER yesterday.  Has anyone else returned home from that cruise and continues to experience GI or other issues??  I ate ONLY on the ship.  I suspected lingering issues from what ship doctor said was AG virus, a gastro virus.  But my doctor said this is too long for a virus, as I am a healthy person.  Testing now for food borne bacteria.

Hi Golfer4798,  Sorry to hear about your extended illness. Can you please tell us your doctor's final verdict?  We board the Sirena soon for our first Oceania cruise, and this is very concerning. You can reach me at shop snoopy at gmail dot com  (eliminate the spaces, change at to @ and dot to .)  Wishing you speed recovery after you get a proper diagnosis!

Received a post card today for Labor Day Sale (August 29 - September 10) ... code LD23

Not sure if it's only for expedition cruises but I always try all the codes on any cruises we're looking at since they often work for several.

I tried LD23 for an ocean cruise and got message "The code entered is either invalid or has expired. Please enter a valid offer code."    I appreciate your suggestions.

Absolutely true. Done it a few times. My Viking agent told me as long as you give him a valid code, he can apply the discount.

My Viking agent said he cannot apply the code to a paid booking.  Was your cruise already paid in full?  Thanks.

If you are concerned on what your flights will be, why not just pay the AirPlus fee and choose your flights now?

Peregina, We used air plus, then Delta changed our flight, going from 1 stop to 2 stops.  Called  Viking Air Plus, and they got us another flight with only 1 stop.

This will be our 3rd "summer"cruise to either the top or the bottom of the world.  I am happy to report that the blackout curtains in the stateroom work very well.

Into the Midnight Sun in June 2018. The sun did not set for 2 full days.  The blackout curtains were great. Use a clothes pin the keep them shut.

Yes, you can use your OBC to buy any advertised shore excursions beforehand. Your OBC will show up in your Voyage Planner along with the available excursions.

    Thank you!

Bonnie has posted in the thread headed ‘Indulgence Package’ that you can use OBC (other than that designated for a specific purpose such as Shore Excursions) to buy the Experience More Packages. You have to buy them onboard as there is currently no facility to buy anything other than shore excursions beforehand using OBC.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Can you use OBC to buy tours from home? Many cruise lines say OBC can only be used on board. Thanks.

  9. (Geiranger) We got up for sail in to Geiranger Fiord and it did not disappoint... spectacular. Finally got to try the famous Mamsens waffles with brown cheese. The waffles were very sweet so the rich cheese really was a great accompaniment. I was pleasantly surprised. We did the inclided bus tour which drove up the hairpin switchback roads up to a beautiful mountain lake, and the down town and up again to a different viewpoint of the fiord and town. I'm glad that we did it. If i had known that our weather would be so calm and bright, I would've tried kayaking; the morning fiord water was like glass (WOW). After a round trip back on the tender for lunch, we explored more on foot. There is a stairway that follows a long waterfall from town up to a museum. We wandered up a different route and then took the stairway down. Nice day. Sail away was different as the sky had become overcast. The fiord has different looks with the weather and lighting so more nice photo ops!

The weather in Norway is quite changeable. We were on the June 12th Into the Midnight Sun cruise, and Geiranger was raining and 50 at the bottom of the mountain, and 37 degrees and sleeting and windy at the top. We took Geiranger Fjord Service 3 hour panoramic bus tour which includes a stop at the top of Mount Dashnibba, for a cost of $63. The tour was awesome and would highly recommend it.

Our weather in Nordkapp was great, sunny, calm, temperatures int the high 50's.

Enjoy the rest of your journey.

  10. The sun is shining and we’re on land. Great private tour today with David Murdoch of Orkney Tailor Made Tours. We toured the neolythic sights of Skara Brae, Skull House, Ring of Bodgar, and Standing Stones of Stenness. Lunch of soup and sandwiches at Standing Stones Hotel.

Visited the Italian Chapel, Saint Magnus. Cathedral, drove along the Scappa Flow, and strolled downtown Kirkwall. David was an excellent guide and enveloped us in the history of Orkney.

  11. I am so disappointed for you that you are missing the Shetlands. However Viking can't control the weather and I am glad they are keeping you safe and entertained. We have been watching the ship's progress on Marine Traffic and the weather on Windy. There have indeed been a series of low pressures causing gale force winds and big seas. I recall last year a ship had to skip Lerwick due to high winds and another sailed all the way to Honningsvag but did not dock because of approaching weather. It happens.

I am curious - trying to figure the reason the pools and jacuzzis are closed. Is it because the water is sloshing about?

Another question - do you have wifi while way out at sea? It is satellite so I would think yes but...

Thank you for your live reports.

Water is still sloshing around in the pools. But, pools are closed for safety reasons. With the bumpy ride, you could fall and get hurt when we hit a big wave. Winds have calmed down today and the outside walking decks are open.

Yes, there is wifi most of the time.

  12. “What a difference a day makes.”

So we left Lofoten on time yesterday and headed into the Norwegian Sea to cross to Scotland. The seas were a little rough, but nothing worse than what we had already encountered. But that was to change.

As time went on conditions got worse and the seas picked up.

The Captain came on the loudspeaker at around 9:30 to update the passengers (NB: our clocks went back an hour last night) . Due to the seas (18-25 foot swells) and tremendously high winds he has slowed the ship to 10 knots. As such we would arrive into Lerwick 19 hours late. Needless to say they decided to cancel the port and head directly to Kirkwall, so tomorrow will be another day at sea. The Captain said we could expect these conditions to last for the next 24 hours.

I don’t know if this is normal (the rough seas). The passengers all seem to be taking it in stride as there were a lot more people in the World Cafe for breakfast than I would have thought. The pools and jacuzzis are, obviously, closed.

We were informed that our Lerwick shore excursions would be refunded, too.

Going for a facial in a bit and may book a massage for tomorrow, and a French wine tasting at 2, so we won’t be bored.

Haven't seen the sun since Monday. Both pools are closed. Outside walking track is closed. Sun deck is closed. Bring books and games. And sea bands or dramamine, just in case.

Viking added lots of extra activities for 2nd sea day: bean bag toss, napkin folding, cooking demonstration, trivia contest, movies, magic show, and guest lectures.

  13. Also live on the Viking Sea. We flew into Bergen. It was an easy 15 minute walk from the ship to the Floyben Funicular. Amazing views from atop the mountain.

Price was 95 NOK, $12. US, return (round trip.) Significantly less money than Vikings tour.

In Geiranger, we took Geiranger Fjord Service 3 hours deluxe bus panoramic tour. Cost $63 per person. Vikings tour was $179. Small bus. We made 4 stops, including top of Mount Dalsnibba(sp?). Dress warmly. Weather was 51 and drizzling at the bottom, and 37 degrees and sleeting and high winds at the top. Again, amazing views of the fjords.

Roothy, Your photos are always amazing. We seem to be a year after you on our adventures. Norway next summer. Hopefully our paths will cross.

  15. I was reading some of the River Cruise threads and came across this which may indicate where the high water issue is:

"Hello from Passau - we're currently on-board the Avalon Expression on our way from Prague to Budapest on the Legends of the Danube cruise 4/29-5/2. We started in Prague and did a one day pre-cruise extension and had 4 great days in Prague. The water on the Danube is high - so Avalon held the boat in Deggendorf due to a low bridge between Deggendorf and Nuremberg"

So I'm assuming that Viking may be having problems in the same area.

    Norm

We were on a Viking cruise of the Danube in 2011 and the river was high around Passau. Viking gave everyone 2 choices: stay on the boat all day, or get off in Passau in the morning and spend the day in Passau (including a morning tour, a group lunch, and free afternoon). The boat was able to sail past all the high water with 200 less people aboard. They then bussed us from Passau about 45 minutes to the ships temporary docking position. No ship swaps were necessary for us.
