  1. We are arriving at 6:00 pm on April 30 and departing at 6:00 pm May 1.  What I have researched so far is a ferry to Hamilton leaves at 6 and the next at 7:15.  We won’t be able to make the 6:00 obviously.  So is it worth going over for 1 1/2 hour, as the last ferry leaves at  at 9:00?  Not sure stores will be open.  What to do?

The next day I have considered renting a Twizy.  We definitely want to see St. George.  Don’t care about spending time at a beach.  Thought about a tour and have seen some of the recommendations on here.  I like flexibility.  We will be just the two of us, so blue taxi might be too expensive.

I seem to be stumped with this Port.

Thanks - good update.  I don't see where the OP indicated RCI and we were able to do so recently with Celebrity, as example.  May still be the case with other cruise lines?

We are doing a  15 day transatlantic with Celebrity next month and was wondering about bringing a case of water on board.  If I understand correctly, one may attach a luggage tag to the case and have it delivered to your room?

  3. I received a “move up” email on Tuesday.  Notice the price chances in just three days.  I just went to email again and clicked on see details box and “SURPRISE !  New offers are Edge Villa $11,750, Royal Suite $7,750, Celebrity Suite $7,000, Sky Suitr $5,000, Aqua $1,900, Concierge $1,350.

I had looked into how many rooms were available since final payment and their were several.  This is the Edge’ s first TA and was fully booked for a long time.  Maybe they received a lot of offers on Tuesday.  Although on our Roll Call no one stated they took advantage of this.

What to think?  You snooze you lose!

Here are some upgrade options, priced per person for the entire duration of the cruise:

  4. Definitely global. Uber is in many cities around the globe. I use the Uber app in Florida or Ohio, where I live, and then used it last fall in London. And will this year in the U.K. and France.

If you are riding for the first time, get a promo code from an existing rider for a $15 discount on your ride. If you need a code, use mine and we both get the discount.

    Anyone can use it: 6y3g9

    Neal from Cincinnati.

Thanks Neal. I have down loaded the app and hopefully I can figure out the right way to use it when I need it in Miami to get to the cruise port from our hotel. I will attempt to use your code if it still is useable in October. Do you enter the code during the payment process?

  5. Hi. We used Uber for the first time in May for our cruise. We got in late to Miami so just used a cab from the airport to the hotel. The next morning we used Uber to get from the hotel to the Miami port. Once we got off the cruise we used Uber to get us from the Miami port to the Ft. Lauderdale airport I was super nervous about the process. Best decision we have made! When you put in where you want to go various drivers in the area will pop up. You can see what type of vehicle they have. Once you select them it will give you the make and model of their vehicle and license plate. You can also contact them directly which is what we do. I also text them a picture of hubby and myself so the driver knows what we look like. Good luck! Wanda

Thank you, that was very helpful. I am still nervous about the first step in the process in requesting one. Putting in my information and all. As I said before, I tried before and somehow signed up to be a driver. I am usually pretty computer savvy but I do not know how that happened. Still makes me nervous.

  6. It seems most of these post were for FLL but my question pertains to POM. I will be staying at Marriott Miami airport and need transfers to and from the port. I would like to use Uber but have never done so before. Tried once and mistakenly ended up signing up to be a driver, so have been nervous to try again. Getting from the hotel to the port, I figure is easier than from the port back to hotel. How does it work with requesting a driver for pick up at port with hundreds of people standing looking for pick up?

Need some help better understanding how it all works.

  7. When I went to Bermuda in May and June never used the balcony on sea days and in Bermuda to busy too. So while I always book a balcony in the Caribbean, I always book an Oceanview out of Bayonne to Bermuda.

As far as rough waters, more likely than the Caribbean but the waters were not rough a majority of the times on my Bermuda sailings. Early May is not a time when I would go again to Bermuda because in addition to cool sea days the water temperature in Bermuda in May is too cool for my body.

Thank you. that is what I thought, it would be too cool for a balcony. Guess my biggest concern was the rough waters. We have had only one cruise with rough waters on one day that was very unpleasant. Just didn't know what the Atlantic was like.

  8. We are considering taking the Celebrity Summit out of Bayone in early May. We have never sailed in the Atlantic before and wondering what to expect in regard to rough waters. I have two complet different choices, but they are similar in price. Aqua class, Sky Deck midship, or Oceanview, midship Continental deck. My first instinct would do the Oceanview, for these reasons, lower in boat for less movement (deck 2)as to deck (9) for Aqua. Also time of year would be very cool for a deck. On the other hand we have always cruised in concierge class and this would be a nice opportunity to do Aqua class.

I would appreciate anyone's advice that has taken these cruises and if you could share some of your experiences.

  9. We have traveled with a classic beverage before a few years ago and I have done some reading on CC and have found some bar menus. Some seem higher than I remember and one looks like there are very few drinks under the classic package ($6, $8, $9).

Does the destination of a cruise matter with drink menus? Example one menu from Master cellar bar, trip in Out of Southampton displays prices all above the $9.00 limit for classic beverage. My husband has previously gotten a Pinot Noir from there in this package, but this menu shows no wines in the $9.00 category.

Just trying to decide whether to get this package added onto to a cruise we are considering next month in the Caribbean.

  10. With the very recent change by celebrity, there is no difference in the gratuities. You always paid the same but in the past, if you had select dining, you had to pay the full gratuities at time of final payment....rather than on the ship. Early/late seatings did not have to pay gratuities in advance. Celebrity just changed that so it doesn't matter where you eat, you pay the gratuities on the ship and they are charged to your account daily.

The gratuities are the same irrespective of where you eat. If you eat in a specialty restaurant, part of your payment for the meal is gratuities...it won't be added to the price you pay. Gratuities for any drink that is covered under your drink package are included in the price of the drink package.

You have finally explain the difference so it makes sense. i always wondered about the specialty dinning tipping as well. Wasn't sure whether to tip or not, we have done both.

  11. Yep! We also generally take the OBC and the drink package for that reason.

Why? Doesn't Celebrity charge $16 a day for gratuities out of your account if you do not have a gratuity package? My math tells me it would be about $115 per person on a seven day cruise. That utilizes almost all of that $150 OBC. Is the $150 per person or room?

I have booked a 14 day cruise and received both the beverage package and gratuities plus OBC. When I booked they told me there was no more room for two dinning times and they would have to put me in as select dinning. My confusion from this post is the tipping while dinning with select. If I have gratuities pre-paid am I expected to pay each night I dine I need to pay an additional gratuity.

I do not understand the difference between gratuities with select dinning and traditional.

  12. I would not call us experienced cruisers as we have completed only two Celebrity and one Oceania cruises. Celebrity, we had traditional dinning and Oceania only has any time dinning. All three cruises we were fortunate to have from our travel agent pre-paid gratuities. With Celebrity we had the 123 packages.

Both Celebrity cruises we had the same waite staff and the last night tipped them additional cash as we did for our room staff. On Oceania we never saw the same waite staff twice, which we did not like. We have just booked another Celebrity cruise for 2017 the other day and the on line travel agent informed me they only are currently offering select dinning, the traditional dinning appeared to be full. I found this strange as the cruise we just came off from we had the 8:30 seating and the room was half full/half empty every night. We had heard select was a real problem where people were waiting on long lines and it was over crowded.

I'm am a little confused with all the above talk about select dinning and tipping. On our next cruise we are receiving classic beverage package, pre-paid gratuities and additional shipboard credit. With select dinning am I to understand my pre-paid gratuities takes care of that dinning.

I liked the suggestion from someone here that you request the same area each night so you might get the same dinning staff. I would like to give additional tipping on the last night to a familiar waite staff. I am in concierge class and maybe I would receive preferred setting.

  13. I have seen where they rent sailboats for people to sail the lagoon. The Simpson Bay lagoon is the largest lagoon in the Caribbean I believe and there is lots to see.

He is not that experienced. The sail boats he goes on are smal, not at all like the Stars and .stripes. In fact he is getting ready to go out now on the Harbour 20 now. It is a club he joined a while back and had never sailed before.

Going out on a rented boat isn't an option but thanks.

Like Crewsweeper's idea of letting him go alone and I can find something to do. Although I have done a little sailing myself.

  14. Unless they've changed, it's not a "sailing tour" as in leisurely tacking around the bay, rather it's a staged sailboat race between 2 former America's Cup Challengers. There's a helmsman and actual crew person on board but all the sail trimming, wench grinding and other tasks are handled by cruisers on the excursion. if there is sufficient wind, boats will heel and you might get splashed by a wave. If you've ever raced or wanted tor ace sailboats, you'll enjoy it. :)

Yes, I knew it is actually a regatta that takes place. Just looking for others that have done it. My husband crews each week on Harbour 20 sail boats and I was thinking this might be fun. I was also looking for other options to do this instead of doing through our cruise ship.

  15. We were looking at the Cucina Italiana half day cooking classes in Lucca for our cruise next month. If you found a class, would you mind telling us how it was?

I didn't find anything while on our cruise. We will be doing one after we end our cruise in Rome.

  16. Has anyone every done a cooking class when docked at this port? I have been to Tuscany before and done many hill towns, wineries and been to the big cities including Florence. I am looking for a different experience, maybe a cooking class at a farm in the area of Livorno.

  17. 10 trips out of Savannah and always use the deviation option:

Never disappointed because you can accept or reject:

    You will get it right:

Recently Delta has pushed a connection thru JFK which is a issue with the connections between terminals in New York:

Delta new terminal is wonderful but since you are on a regional jet you land in a horrible area of the airport with a long walk and bus ride:

Is Delta the airline the only contracted one out of Savannah or have you use US Air as well. Currently it seems Delta's flight to Barcelona are two stop before arriving there.

  18. We are flying out of Savannah the end of October using the "FREE" airfare (which it's not really free) to Rome and flying back from Lisbon. Had we not taken the free air, we would have received an $850 credit pp. We took the standard flight on Delta out the day before which arrives first thing the morning of embarkation. Going through ATL.

Because we're adding two days extra in Lisbon, we took the air deviation for $175pp extra. It was charged immediately to my credit card but we also got to select our seat immediately instead of waiting. We're booked on United for the return going through EWR. Thus it probably depends upon your embarkation and debarkation cities that determine the airlines selected.

Bottom line was it was still cheaper than booking directly for us and cheaper than flying out of Charleston which would have added another $150pp for the non-gateway city.

I have looked at flights on my own and leaving Savannah to Barcelona it is either Delta or US Air, the differences are the connections. US Air has one stop and Delta two and long connections. I just don't know which Oceania will use. I would probably do the deviation to add on days. I can't imagine flying in on the same day the ship leaves, I would be exhausted.

  19. We are new to Oceania and will be flying from Savannah. Has anyone left from Savannah with their "free" airfare to a European city? We are going to Barcelona and returning from Rome. We welcome any advice about choosing their flights or is it best to get our own. Savannah is one of their listed cities to fly from.

Savannah uses Delta and US Air/American pretty much exclusively.

I have read through these threads and seem to understand that their "free" fare is only offered to fly you in on day of embarking and back on day of disembarkment, is that correct?

  20. Why do you prefer the Port Side?

We have only cruised once before and had port side for our Venice to Rome trip with all ports docked port side. It was great to have the views while at port from our balcony. I realize it may not always be the case, but believe more times than not would be the same scenario. The small ports of the French and Italian Riveria would be nice to enjoy with our morning coffee and afternoon drink on our balcony with views of the towns.

Please, advice from more experienced cruisers is always welcomed.

  21. This will be our first cruise on Oceania with Rivera. We are looking for A3 category and all I am currently seeing for a May 22, 2015 cruise are starboard rooms and near elevator. There is one port side, which we prefer, but that too is next to elevator. Has anyone had rooms near the elevators and are they noisy and too busy of an area? I have not booked the trip yet as I am concerned about the location, (1) elevator and (2) starboard.

This cruise is mostly all the small ports of the French and Italian Riveria.

Has anyone done a similiar cruise? What has been your experiences?

  22. Desdichado62 ..

    Your opinion please ..

We arrive 8AM on a Thursday. My current plan is to get off ship, hit the HoHo Boat (per company they start as soon as cruise ships arrive - before their normal 10am start time - true?) and go directly to Vasa. Next, take HoHoboat back to see Changing of the Guard at 1315p and then walk through Gamla Stan back to ship. I am not used to public transit (and it scares me) .... Do the HoHoboats run only in a clockwise direction??? At least this is what I am reading by looking at their map. If this is the case it will take us a long time to get to Vasa and then again over to Changing of the Guard.

If this is the case, would you suggest Vasa first and then the Changing of the Guard?? What would be the best way to get to Vasa (bus #76) and then back to Changing of the Guard??? Will we have time to see Vasa and also Changing of the Guard??

Thank you for your input ... OH and we have to be back on the ship at 1530

    Debbie.

I am curious, which ferry company said they will be at the cruise ship when it docks at 8:00. Our ship also arrives on a Thursday at Stadsgarden and I have read from other cruisers from past cruises saying they got a ferry as soon as they disembarked their ship to go to Vasa.

I hope to be able to do this and be flexible for our return trip over to Gamla Stan. I want to purchase single tickets for flexibility as I am only interested in just two trips, not full day trips.

  23. We are in London for five nights staying at St. Ermis with points in August before cruising the Baltic. I chose it because of the closeness to the St. James tube station and within a ten minute walk to most of the places in the Westminster area. Also chose it for its intimate appearance and their reviews. It is different than most Marriott properties.

Good luck on your choice, you really can not go wrong.

  24. galliegirlie For the direct water taxi from the main port area to Vasa first thing in the morning, do you have to purchase the full HoHo boat tour ticket or do they have a one time use fee?

There is both the possibility to purchase a ticket for one stop and the full HoHo boat tour ticket but I don't know if you have to buy the full tour ticket for the direct trip to Vasa.

I have been in contact with the Red Sightseeing HOHO and they state they will be at the berth early to arrive for opening of Vasa. However, I too have contacted the other company, Stromma, which also seems to own Royal Sightseeing and they stated they would be at berth at 10:00 even though I told them the ship landed at 8:00. Our cruise is in August and is in port for the same times as your ship. I would be curious to know you outcome after your visit.
