  1. Glad to see people are realizing it's the country processing the passports etc not the cruise port.

Two years ago we were sailing out of Amsterdam to the British Isles. There was a couple of little hiccups created by Amsterdam cruise port but nothing that wouldn't be cured the minute you step on the lovely ship greeted by champagne. Problem was we weren't greeted by anything but a wall of people. We stood there for close to two hours on the ship waiting for two British Passport officers to check our passports (we had already cleared Dutch Border Control) and take them from us. Two hours standing shoulder to shoulder no food no drinks nothing and hardly anyone to tell us what was happening. By the time we cleared through I just wanted water and growled to the poor server offering champagne. It was grim hopefully none of us has to experience that again. Sadly they keep tightening security :(

PS we are also two Canadians with zero desire to travel to the US until they stop the intense grilling.

  2. Friends don't let friends cruise NCL.

    NCL=Neveragain Cruise Line.

    :D

I wish this had been posted before we booked our cruise on the Jewel. Staff were great sad they had to keep apologizing for our beverage package. "Sorry ma'am you must pay for your mocha" "Sorry sir you can't get bottled water" etc. Quietest cabin steward ever, OK he was probably shy, but two hellos during the 5 days!!! Zero direction for disembarkation, good thing we were seasoned cruisers we would still be waiting in our cabin ( OK we aren't that stupid ;) ).

The best thing we did was purchase the thermal suite pass. But everytime we were there we were subjected to humans that have no concept of respect for silence. I was disappointed in how small the area was to enjoy as a couple. I guess it was just the Jewel but we won't be discovering any other NCL ships.

It was an experiment, we enjoyed some of it, but back to X for us, I prefer the serenity.

  3. Sorry to hear of your disappointment. We had similar weather situation last July on the Silhouette in Scotland (same weekend when they cancelled the British Open). We had planned our cruise on being able to go to Inverness and it was cancelled completely :(

I know with cruises we are at the mercy of Mother Nature, but it can be so disappointing.

Hope the rest of your cruise goes better.

  4. That's exactly how we moved from RCCL to X. You and your hubby sound like us (I am 60 he is 54). Culture and exploration is more important than games and drinking. We love the serenity of Celebrity. If you see our future cruises we have NCL coming up and I am a bit leary but it's only 5 days, and I am also looking forward to experiencing the new Ovation of the Seas. Given choices I would take Celebrity but budget rules sometimes. Enjoy!!!

  5. The hardest part of leaving a Celebrity Cruise is that you can't find anything even close to as good as Café Al Bacio anywhere. It's amazing how prompt the service is and how amazing all the drinks and pastries are.

Just counting down the days until our next cruise now!

I will say, I've been looking into buying some sets and teas from TeaForte (who provide the glassware and teas to the Celebrity ships). Such an amazing product!

8 and a half months until my next Cafe al Bacio fix

Just ordered my iced tea set from Tea Forte. They had a special free shipping to Canada last week. And tea samples, I ordered two, one might be given as a wedding gift. .. maybe not :)

  6. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Red Dog. Once you leave the ship everything is quite close including the tram. The Mt Roberts tram is quite a ride, glorious views. We bought our tickets at the excursion desk on board. That saved us a bit of time. Enjoy the trip every day of ours brought gorgeous views and Vistas.

  7. Reading this reminds me of how disappointing it was when the ship's navigational map on the TV was not working on the Infinity a few weeks ago.

I hope they had it fixed for your cruise.

That is one of the ship's most useful features, especially for an Alaska cruise.

It shows you right where your ship is currently located along the entire trip, so you can know what is coming up next and not miss the highlights because you were eating dinner or napping or playing trivia at that time.

It is also interesting to see when the ship deviates from the originally planned route and takes another channel instead.

We were on the Infinity the week before and the navigation channel wasn't working  At least we had the Internet so we used our GPS apps to figure out where we were. Hopefully it was fixed or will be soon.

Danes so glad you had the brilliant weather we experienced the week before. Part of me thinks it's Mother Nature's way of apologizing for what happened to Infinity on June 3

  8. Glad you are enjoying. We walked off the Infinity at 9:30 Sunday morning. I am going through serious withdrawal right now. We loved the ship and the itinerary. Nice that the whales are putting on a good show. Enjoy the Eagles at Icy Straight Point. Ketchikan will be no problem, there was only one other ship in dock with us last Friday. A team is busy working on the dock so repairs should be completed in early July (that's the plan at least ).

    Keep enjoying 😀

  9. Please let those of us with pending Infinity Alaskan cruises know how your cruise was. Thanks!

Just heading home now through the Inside Passage. Yesterday at Ketchikan was textbook perfect. They are busy working on the dock. We sailed in as two ships sailed out. One other HAL ship was docked. Lovely day for everyone.

  10. On board Infinity now just cleared Vancouver Island. Everything is fine, no change to our schedule (including Ketchikan). One crew member described everything as was discussed earlier..take out HAL ship or dock. He also said if it had been serious damage to the hull the Infinity would have headed straight to Esquimalt for major repairs.

Just want to confirm yesterday was a beautiful sail away. My gorgeous city put on her prettiest face for everyone and we had a lovely evening sailing up the Straight of Georgia.
