We were on the MS Ryndam until Saturday. We had a fantastic time. We ate in the MDR every night bar one as the food was exceptional. We had a chocolate sponge and cream layer cake delivered to our table with a song. The front desk called our cabin to wish us Happy Anniversary and a Congratulaton card was also delivered to our cabin.

Hi
My husband and I are planning a cruise in the western Mediterranean for late September and have looked at cruises on HAL, Princess, and RCI. We understand that the Ryndam will be sold soon and that there is a current outbreak of the Norovirus. Any suggestions about sailing on the Ryndam? How is the service and what is the condition of the ship? We have sailed with HAL several times, most recently on the Maasdam, and been very happy with each cruise.
Thanks for any input
We are sailing on the Ryndam today, will post something when we get back. Sailed on her last August and she's a lovely ship .

Thank you. Should have mentioned that nephew is officially named on our booking (cheaper that way) and SIL is officially booked as single occupant, although they will be sharing a twin room.

Embarkation Lunch Question
My SIL and nephew will be joining us as first time cruisers. Will they be able to come with us to the embarkation lunch?

We are sailing with two 16 year old boys to Norway on the MS Ryndam on the 4th July. No mention of other teens on our roll call :o so would be interested to hear if anyone on the same sailing.

Why not search on any of the travel agents who sell cruises using HAL as a default?:)
Thanks I will try that. Did look at the cruise timetables website and see that the MS Rotterdam has 3 cruise itineries out of Southampton early 2016 but cannot find any other HAL ships listed. Maybe it's a little early yet. :)

Thanks, have posted on HAL board as we want to continue sailing with them and like the convenience of a port close to home.

Does anybody know what ship will be available for UK sailings after the MS Ryndam transfers to P&O Australia?

Have a great trip! We were on the MS Ryndam in August and loved her. We are booked to sail on her again next July. Looking forward to reading your review.

So the $50 is only for the drinks. Service charge is still added to your account, correct? and not included with the Drink Package.
You don't have a service charge added to your account, this is included within the cost of the drinks package. :)

We had a surprisingly wonderful time in Geiranger. Surprising because we weren't expecting quite as much. It is a small town, but there is a fairly new trail (with a lot of stairs) that goes up beside the creek/waterfall, with beautiful scenery. At the top there is a fjord museum. In the town there are a couple of places where you can get a cup of coffee or more and sit outside and visit.
Trish
We were on the Ryndam this August for the 7 night Norse Legends trip. We found Geiranger to be a lovely little port and also took the stairs to the top of the waterfall and were rewarded with a wonderful view point.
Would recommend an overnight stay in Harwich the night before the cruise. When we sailed from there with RCI in August 2013 we stayed at the Premier Inn right by the port. There is a train station at the port as well although we went by car. We loved our cruise on the Ryndam so much that we have booked the 14 night Voyage of the Midnight Sun on 4th July 2015. Super excited to be going back to the fjords and to be sailing up to the North Cape this time :D

Yes we're on the 4th July cruise, I had looked at the list of DVDs on board & I'm sure there's some they'll watch but they all seemed quite old films hence the reason for maybe taking some
Good to hear that you're on the same cruise and that they'll be a couple more teens on board. Concerned due to travelling in term time that they're won't be many but our 2 will have finished school early after sitting exams. The cinema shows more utd films which are then repeated on cabin tv. There's also a roll call up and running for this trip. All the best :)

We've just booked our first HAL cruise for next July with 2 teenagers, can anyone tell me if DVD's are available to rent on board & also does anyone know if the players will only play DVDs from USA not Europe. Don't want to bother buying some if they won't work
Also is there a safe in each stateroom, if so how big is it? We are staying in Cat F outside stateroom.
Sorry if this info is elsewhere but I've spent a few days looking through & can't find the answers. I'm sure I'll have loads more questions before next year
Slightly off topic but I see you have booked the Ryndam for next July. We are booked to go on 4th July 2015 and have 2 teenage boys, both 16. Wondering if you are on the same voyage?
Back to your question re DVDs - check out the HALFACTS website as they have the list of available films to borrow that you can download. :)

Loving your review & photos. Brings back happy memories. We were on the Ryndam in August and had a great time. She's a beautiful ship and it's such a shame that HAL have sold her. We hope to sail on her again next year before she transfers to P&O Australia.

I see that you started a Roll Call for your cruise last November and there is very little activity on it.
Since there are so few of you, your best bet is to arrange for all of you to meet informally at a certain time, day and place.
Many thanks everyone for some great advice. Krazy Kruisers you may be right, for a while on the roll call I was begining to think we'd have the ship to ourselves  Can anyone familiar with the MS Ryndam suggest a place for an informal gathering. I will of course ask what the roll call members will prefer. :)

Hi everyone, looking for some advice please. We will be sailing on HAL for the first time this August. Does HAL arrange a Meet & Greet or similar if there is sufficient interest from the roll call. Many thanks :)

Standard maintenance & upkeep. Her last drydock was in Nov 2012
Thanks, I saw that she had one only fairly recently and wondered why she was having another one so soon.

Does anyone know what work is being carried out on the MS Ryndam later this month? Just curious as we are booked to sail on her in August.

Hi
No harm in contacting RCI direct as they would certainly know of the existance of any competition and better to check with them, than really be scammed. Usually if it's a scam there will be an instruction to call a premium rate number to claim your prize which puts money in the fraudsters pocket. A bonefide competition win should not include this requirement. Hoping you have won something.

Has HAL gotten rid of its "house" wines by the glass?
in Holland America Line

Hi, we were on the MS Ryndam 3 weeks ago and purchased the SBP. Red wine by the glass included a Merlot and a Cabenet Sauvignon. White wine by the glass included Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Processco. I think there was a rose included as well.
