Just a question regarding paying for our onboard accounts. Sorry if this has been answered before....I haven't been on CC for a while....
When filling in the online check in, can we say that we will pay by cash, and then just go to the desk and pay with credit card? Will we need to do this at regular intervals during the cruise? And does this avoid the "holds" that RCI put on credit cards?
Thank you.

Sorry it took so long to reply....radiancecruiser, I'm thinking you might be back from your trip by now. Anything to report about your experiences in Singapore?Specifically, did you find Little India a good place to stay? I am also considering a hotel there for a 3- or 4-night stay pre-cruise next February. With so many days to explore, I don't need to stay close to the pier, and Orchard St isn't my kind of thing, so Little India beckons.
Anyone want to offer your perspective on this? With thanks in advance,
Our hotel near Little India, Village Hotel Albert Court, was perfect. Simple but charming rooms, and very affordable.
It was surrounded by lovely little restaurants, and we can highly recommend the Italian restaurant just across from the main doors of the hotel....under $50 for pizza, beer and dessert for 2.[emoji106]
Little India is wonderful. The hawker centre there was also a great place to eat. We did breakfast there on the morning of our cruise embarkation, and it cost a whole $10 for food and juices for 2.[emoji23][emoji23]
We only had to walk 2 blocks to the nearest MRT station (Rochor), and from there, we could travel basically the entire city. And the MRT network is growing. It's an extremely easy, efficient and quick way to get around. Just get an easylink card, keep it topped up, and away you go.
Our time in Singapore was limited, but I saw enough to know that I could easily go there for a 2 week holiday and be perfectly happy in Singapore alone for the entire time.
Just explore and enjoy.[emoji170]

Thank you for your response. Does that mean we can buy just a small amount of local currency (Thai baht or Viet dong) onboard, and simply have it added to our onboard account? Or do we need to purchase with cash?

We are on the Mariner of the Seas leaving Singapore Feb 8. We have 3 ship sponsored tours booked in Vietnam and Thailand. All of the tours include lunch.
Will the tours include drinks? If not, will we need a small amount of local currency for this, and maybe a few souvenirs? Or will they accept $AU or $SIN?

Thank you, will do.Since the tours are booked through RCI I would ask about tours including drinks on the RCI Board.Keith

Listen to any advice from the people that know. You seriously do not want a blue bottle sting....

I'm not one to actually swim at the beach,😌so I probably can't answer that exactly. I think it would probably be best to ask the lifeguards on the day....

We live about an hour from Port Stephens and 40 mins from Newcastle.
Both places are lovely. But IMHO Newcastle is the pick. Opportunities to see nature and wildlife may be a little limited in both places, but the beaches in Newcastle are said to be some of the best in the country.
And in terms of history, Newcastle has Fort Scratchley and the Anzac Walk. And you will get a spectacular view of our coastline from both of these places.👍

Hi.... We will disembark our ship on Feb 15, and we then have 2 days/1 night in Singapore before we fly back to Australia late on Feb 16. I have just realized that this falls right on Chinese New Year.
How much will this impact our ability to do things around the city? For example, will public transport run as normal? Will restaurants, hawker centres or food courts be open?

We will be visiting Bangkok in February 2018 as one of our ports of call on Mariner of the Seas. It will be an overnight stop at Laem Chabang.
My hubby and I are interested in visiting the Branch Office of Jehovah's Witnesses in Bangkok.
Would anyone be able to recommend how to organize private transport from the ship to the specific address, and back to the ship at the end of the day? (As it is an overnight stop, we won't need to be back by a specific time....)
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

We booked a February cruise on Mariner back in August, and we had to take 5.30 because MTD and the later dining time were both booked out way back then....😑

For anyone who has done cruise tours to any of the Thai temples such as the Grand Palace and the Sanctuary of Truth, do these tours require you to be involved in any way in any religious ceremonies? Are you required to do anything connected to their religious beliefs, or are you purely an observer?

I have subscribed to a couple of older threads regarding the Mariner, but there hasn't been anything posted for a while.
Has anyone been on the Mariner recently? Any comments/feedback?
We will be sailing on her from Singapore in February. Just curious about people's thoughts....

I'm not familiar with the hotel so I can't vouch or its quality, but seeing that it is run by Far East group (which is one of the large property developers in Singapore), it shouldn't be too bad.
In terms of location, it is a very interesting location. You are very near Little India - http://www.visitsingapore.com/see-do-singapore/places-to-see/little-india.html
In fact, the Little India MRT station is just a few hundred meters down the road. Little India MRT station has both the Downtown (DTL) and North East (NE) lines, so you would be able to get to many places using the MRT. Alternatively, take a public taxi, or use Uber or Grab. Singapore is easy to get around and your location, while not exactly at the usual tourist spot, is pretty good. Download local maps on your smart phone and take a walk around the place!
So after much thought and research, we would like to spend our one full day in Singapore on the HOHO bus, and then dinner at Lau Pa Sat. We are staying near Little India,...so could you please suggest the most efficient way to do this? Should we prepurchase our bus tickets? Buy them on the day? Is Lau Pa Sat on the bus route?
Thank you in advance for your help....

It's not just in the US. We had a flight booked with Jetstar from Melbourne to Singapore for our cruise in February. Jetstar decided to completely cancel our flight, and none of the alternative options they offered were going to work with our other booked and paid arrangements...
We ended up having to cancel the flight, and book with Qantas at a higher price.
Fortunately all of our plans have stayed intact, but it was certainly a stressful exercise!

Thanks for your response. We visited Australia two times during the past 5 years, and both times took cruises on the Radiance of the Seas. Love your screen name.
It came about because when we first decided to try cruising about 5 years ago, the first one we picked was on the Radiance. I got excited and called myself Radiancecruiser.
But we didn't actually end up going on that cruise. We finally decided on Rhapsody. Since then, we have sailed on Rhapsody twice, then Explorer, and we are looking forward to Mariner in February for our first cruise outside of Australia.
So Radiance still hasn't happened....😂😂😂

Why? Could you expand on why prices that include the tip is better.
As mentioned, tipping is not part of our culture.
It used to really annoy me when you would look at the price of a RC cruise, then add the cost of tipping, then decide if you wanted to prepay or have it added on the cruise, etc, etc, etc....
Having everything rolled into one price just makes sense to us.😊

When will RCI start including the gratuities in the cruise fare price on all US booking?
It was the best thing that ever happened for us Aussies!!😂😂

Radiance Cruiser, I am stalking you around the forum's tonight & soaking up all the information you are getting!! Our flight from London arrives just a couple of hours before you around 2.40pm. I will probably spend the next 5 months trying to plan this trip, we also have 5 nights in Bali after the cruise, so that needs researched as well lol!!
Our flight from Melbourne to Singapore got cancelled, and all of the alternative options the airline provided just weren't going to work. So we had to take the refund and book a flight with a completely different airline, at a higher cost.... Fortunately the timing is almost exactly the same, but it certainly caused some stress at the time!

Everyone gets a different experience and if you want to see the tunnels, go see them. Otherwise you will always say "I wish we had....." Make sure you have your camera in hand - it will certainly be an experience for you. Enjoy.
Diane
Thank you. We have decided to stick with the tunnels. I expect that we may decide to visit Vietnam on a land based holiday at some point in the future, so there will be opportunity to see more then.😎

Was on the Mariner last week homeport in SG and their prices now includes Gratuities. I believe this is to comply with local government regulations. This must apply to ships homeport in Australia and some other countries also.
How was Mariner?? We sail on her in February.😁

Weight restriction for Noumea bicycle tour
in Pacific Islands, All
Posted
There is a shore excursion in Noumea, New Caledonia, called Bicycle the Bays and Beaches. It has a weight restriction of 95kgs. My husband is a little over that, but he is fit and perfectly able to ride a bike.
Does anyone know how strict this restriction is? Do they actually weigh you?
Thank you.
