  1. No tablecloths means less elegance to me. I don't have tablecloths in my home (I do have a runner tho) but I don't really do elegant dinners. On a cruise when I want an elegant dinner I can have one in the MDR. I hope the Breeze doesn't change to the new menu before we go in November!

Just to be clear, they DO have them on Elegant nights.

  2. I definitely have a problem with the unsanitary aspects of a bare table that has been wiped down with a dirty rag, especially when norovirus is around. If anybody in the section has it the rag will transfer it to every table they wipe down with it. It is an almost perfect mechanism for spreading disease. Yuck!!

That alone is the reason for a table cloth in a public area. Second would be the acoustics.

  3. We are recently back from a wonderful cruise and are looking to plan another for this summer. What is most important to you when planning your cruise...the ship, the itinerary or the departure port?

We set a budget and then look based on departure ports (driving distance) and itineraries. Now I am wondering if I should book the next one based off of the ship. I have read the Breeze is a beautiful ship and I would love to try it. However, we could get an extra night for less money on the Legend. (Also looking at several other ships/itineraries at this point and haven't even set a firm budget yet...to many decisions)

Except for specialty cruises like Bermuda or Hawaii, or even a stop in Caracas years ago, we cruise for the ship. We have found most ports are extremely similar, and do remember our first cruise having no interest in even getting off the ship. Until we saw that (at the time) basically everything shut down on board. We sure are glad that changed over the years.

  4. I remember my first RCCL and starting to compare EVERYTHING. If I didn't stop, I realized I was going to ruin my cruise.

By weeks end, a had a new line and a fleet of ships to choose from. Each line has some strong points, but basically everything else was on the same level. Except the ship itself. Carnival can't compete on that level.

  5. My family (husband and 2 kids) have 2 cabins with an adjoining door. Would I have to pay the FTTF for each cabin? I don't know anything about this since it's our first cruise. What is I buy it for just myself...doesn't my family get the same benefits?

It would be $99.90. But just buy one, cause they're allowed to go on with you if it's all one booking and you paid for them. Also look at the other benefits of FTTF, and see if you can live without the other small stuff.

  6. I was just wondering when everyone travels that has school aged kids. It is so expensive for us to travel during the summer with five kids, so for their first cruise, we booked one right at the end of the summer and they are actually missing the first day of school. Has anyone tried traveling during the school year and letting the kids miss a week of school? And if so, how has it worked out and is it worth saving the money? We have kids from 8th-1st grade.

That's a question you should be asking your school and your kids teachers.

I never even thought about it until one year on a transfer bus, a lady who WAS a teacher told me her kids do it, and she was doing it that year, that week.

When my kids were small, we asked, we were told it was fine, and they even helped us with lesson plans, although we didn't even ask for that. As they got older, it was WE that decided it may not be a good idea.

Until high school sports came along, and these kids were granted leave to perform all over the country. Rebounding seems to be a bit more hard when they are older, and it may even affect my youngest this period possibly missing her first Honor Society quarterly standing.

So it REALLY is up to you, providing your school district allows it.

  7. What if you write on extra? If the total for my drink bill is $7.59 (including the 15% automatic tip) I make mine $10. Is the additional pooled?

(I'm not sure that I mind the pooling if it stays with the bar staff. Some of the earning potential is pure luck - as a matter of fact the bar tenders take turns on who is in the "back" making the drinks for the dining room, instead of up front where they can build rapport with the guests.)

    It would all be pooled.

  8. Carnival releases drydock info for legend a month and 6 days in advance. A month and six days in advance of the freedom will be this Thursday.

Advance dry dock info is never consistent. You are drawing a speculative conclusion.

  9. What happen to that last thread from freedom dry dock. Did they take it off the boards for a reason. Anyway. Whats the latest news. When is the rumored announcement set for now

I guess when they announce the news, there will be ten people trying to post the first thread about it.

Until then, they are scrubbing the barnacles off the bottom. That's the only reason they would need a dry dock. Otherwise, they could do it in wet dock.

  10. So, we're all excited that our Dream cruise sets sail this Saturday! March 8... DAYLIGHT SAVINGS day! I just realized that someone (the U.S. government? Mother Nature?) is robbing me of ONE FULL HOUR of Fun Ship Fun!!

Seriously though, this is the Eastern Caribbean itinerary, so I'm assuming that after the time change we'll be back on the same time as the islands, who don't typically do the whole "Spring Up/Fall Back" thing... Is that correct? I get confused with the whole "ship's time vs. island time" anyway, so maybe this will help keep me straight... But I still think Carnival should offer some sort of compensation ;)

Depending on where you sail, you may gain that hour back, and then lose it again. :D

  11. In this day of technology, I agree, 100%, that these companies need to honor their "glitches"

Just a month or two ago, United Airlines had a HUGE glitch.

I know people that live in CT, that got RT tickets to San Francisco, for $70:eek::eek::eek:

    United honored those fares.....

If you are not tech savvy enough to keep up with the times, don't offer online bookings.

    JMO.

Absolutely! It's the only way you will get these companies to get their act together.
