  1. I sew on a Viking 910 serger. Threading is sometimes a pain. I thread it right and the thread sometime will still break. If I rethread it with out taking all the threads out and starting from the beginning, the thread will break. It is like my machine knows I did not take out the other three threads. Do you all so have to take out all yours threads when just one thread breaks?

Yes, I do and it can sometimes be a real pain.

  2. When I went to Joann's yesterday to get the lining for the pockets I made a huge mistake of going down an aisle there. An entire section (2 sided) was full of 1/2 price marked down material. I got everything from cotton to wedding lace. I went in for 1/4 yd of lining and walked out 150 dollars later but I did get the lining!:D

I can SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO relate to this. In October, I spent about $360 at Pacific Fabrics. I've made a lot of it but still have 4 things to make. And I've bought more material since then. My husband has 'decreed' that I can't buy anymore materials until I get what I have made. So I bought some yarn to crochet. :D

  3. This weekend, I finished hemming the formal dress. Then I cut out a blouse and nightgown. I finished the blouse except for buttons and button holes because I haven't purchased the buttons yet. It's a casual, tropic shirt. I came close to finishing the nightgown but I have one arm hole and the hem to finish. I really need to get some pictures on here! :o

  4. I found a post by TLCOhio. I copied and pasted it below:

Your FIRST STEP is pick an outside web source that will store or “host” your pictures to be posted. Cruise Critic does not have the space to do larger pictures on their site. You can check such places as photobucket.com, imageshack.com, photoshow.com, flickr.com, picasa.google.com etc. I’ve used photobucket.com and have been pleased with how they upload, etc. SECOND, you need to make an export of your picture in a size such as around 1000 pixel wide by about 700 to your desktop of your computer. That’s the approximate size that I use for this purpose. If you make your file too big for posting, then it slows the process and takes long to upload, etc. THIRD, you use this outside web host to which you upload these different pictures sitting on your desktop. FOURTH, after uploading each picture, you will make a copy of that imbedded address in your file for future posting purposes. It will have have the square parentheses or bracket symbols before and after the capital letter IMG at the start and end of this location on your photo storage site.

Then as you want to post each different picture, you would, FIFTH STEP, copy and paste that imbedded address file for each picture as a part of your message on the CC Boards. In my files, I also have brief written description of each picture and have them grouped by the different city or country locations. With this imbedded file address, the reader on these boards doesn’t have to check on anything or paste to their web browser. It just pops up showing the picture. Does this help? Let us know how it works out and/or any added questions. It will hopefully pop up as these couple of pictures do below. You can preview your post to see if it's working OK before doing the actual post to these CC boards.

Thanks for the help. I will try to do that this weekend.

  5. I haven't had any trouble at all. In fact, I've had great service.

I'm just sensitive, not celiac. Once you tell them that you're GF (in the dining room), they won't allow you to "cheat". I think that it's better if you have traditional seating but they can take care of you anywhere you choose to eat. We did the Chef's Table on our last cruise. I called them the morning of and let them know I was GF. Most of the food was GF but I had a couple of special items to replace what I couldn't eat.

  6. I have two :o stories to tell...

Last year I made a formal dress that turned out to be too big. So I cut my dresses out this year one size smaller than last year. (I've also lost some inches from exercising that I wasn't doing last year.) Can I just say that I HATE patterns where you have to practically make the entire dress before you can try it on?!?!?!? When I tried my dress on yesterday, it's too small! Maybe I can lose the inches within the next month and maybe I can't. :(

I started my next formal dress and surged something before I was supposed to and it took almost an hour to gently rip it out. I still had a couple of very tiny holes but managed to surge it back without them showing. Hopefully, this one will fit.

  7. Well, I brought This machine the other day. I have not use it yett. Sill reading the book.

I'm so envious - I really want one of these. I LOVE your way of having a trade in!

I finally started sewing again this weekend because I only had 6 weekends left to sew. Now I'm down to 5.

I'm working on a formal dress. It's one of those where you have to be practically finished with it before you can try it on. I hope that it fits.

  8. I am my crazy self on or off a ship. My clothes are the same and my behavior is the same. The only thing that is different is that I am more relaxed on vacation than I am in my daily life. If you read my live review, that will give you a great perspective of who I am...a happy gal that loves life.

    Lisa

I'd love to cruise with you sometime! :D

I agree with Lois on my behavior and clothing selection.

  9. I have a question for all of you experienced clothing sewers. I want to make a maxi dress for our next cruise from some beautiful batik cotton that I bought in St. Kitts. But the pattern that I really like best (http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6073-products-10884.php?page_id=101 ) states that it is for stretch knits only. The pattern does call for elastic, though. I'm assuming that it goes in at the waist.

Do you think I could still make this dress in a cotton fabric by modifying the existing pattern?

This is the other pattern I've been contemplating. Same problem- recommended for knits only- http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m5893-products-10130.php?page_id=101

I think that either one would work but you would probably want to make a size (or two) up because it won't stretch when you put it on.

  10. I believe the wrinkle test involves scrunching the fabric into your hand and holding it for a moment. When you let go, are there wrinkles or do they fall out?

I finally started sewing my granddaughter's pj's today and the light on my regular machine burned out. So now I need to take it to get changed - DH and I couldn't get the old bulb out. So I have some running around to do tomorrow. What will I do when I have to go back to work?
